Logic of alternative-I.Maiko Yamamori, Takashi Yagisawa, Ryota Akiyoshi, Takuro Onishi & Yasuo Deguchi - 2022 - Asian Journal of Philosophy 1 (2):1-16.
This paper aims to construct a logic of alternative-I that provides a proper conceptual framework for talk of possible-I in decision-making context, and thereby solves what we call the paradox of possible-I. The model of our logic, Alt-I model, is an adaptation of N. Belnap’s branching-time model, and the STIT (see to it that) operator defined on the model serves to represent choices and decisions made by actual and counterfactual agents. We conclude this paper by discussing the application of Alt-I (...)

Business approaches to combating bribery: A study of codes of conduct. [REVIEW]Kathryn Gordon & Maiko Miyake - 2001 - Journal of Business Ethics 34 (3-4):161 - 173.
The question of what firms do internally in the fight against bribery is probably as important to the successful outcome of that fight as formal anti-bribery law and enforcement. This paper looks at corporate approaches to anti-bribery commitment and compliance management using an inventory of 246 codes of conduct. It suggests that, while bribery is often mentioned in the codes of conduct, there is considerable diversity in the language and concepts adopted in anti-bribery commitments. This diversity is a feature of (...)

    Apocryphal Galilean Writings.Antonio Favaro - 2001 - Science in Context 14 (s1):363-369.
the historians of science have only recently learned of the existence of a sixth volume of the grandly conceived work of the abbé raffaello caverni entitled storia del metodo sperimentale in italia. five volumes had already been published between 1891 and 1898. the sixth volume was published, one might say, in an almost furtive way. in fact, the first notice of it was given in a journal by aldo mieli just a few months ago. among materials he is collecting under (...)

    Galileo’s Early Notebooks. [REVIEW]M. E. - 1978 - Review of Metaphysics 31 (4):689-690.
When Favaro compiled his magisterial 20-volume edition of Galileo’s works, he left aside a large quantity of manuscripts in Galileo’s hand, dating apparently from his youth. The Juvenilia, as Favaro called them, are written in Latin and deal with the standard topics covered in courses in natural philosophy and logic at that time. Two different dates of composition have been proposed: c. 1584, when the twenty-year-old Galileo was a student at the University of Pisa and c. 1590 when (...)

Uniform Acceleration, Space, and Time.Stillman Drake - 1970 - British Journal for the History of Science 5 (1):21-43.
The most reliable source for a reconstruction of Galileo's progress toward a science of motion is the series of undated fragmentary notes on that subject preserved in Codex A of the Galilean manuscripts at Florence. A gathering of such fragments was published by Favaro in the National Edition of Galileo's works, following the Discorsi. The more sophisticated fragments are clearly associated with the composition of that work, and show a definite and consistent understanding of acceleration. Eliminating those, it will (...)

    A Forgotten Controversy Introductory Note to the Appendix.Jürgen Renn - 2001 - Science in Context 14 (s1):321-325.
more than a century ago three eminent galileo scholars, raffaello caverni, antonio favaro, and emil wohlwill, discussed the emergence of galileo's science of motion and the documentary evidence pertaining to it. among the works of these scholars, only favaro's edizione nazionale of galileo's works is still widely used, while the contents of their other writings only play a minor if any role in the current english-speaking literature. the disappearance from historical memory of many of the substantial contributions by (...)

    Prova e Giustificazione.Alfredo Di Giorgio & Daniele Chiffi (eds.) - 2013 - G. Giappichelli Editore.

The Meaning of Plato’s Marital Communism. [REVIEW]Gavin Ardley - 1969 - Philosophical Studies (Dublin) 18:36-47.
The fourth centenary of the birth of Galileo Galilei was celebrated at the University of Notre Dame by a Congress in April 1964. The present volume is a collection of essays on Galilean topics: some are papers delivered at the Congress; some are essays contributed by invitation by other contemporary Galilean scholars; and some are English translations of notable papers of Galilean interest from scholars of a former generation. A lengthy appendix to the volume includes a bibliography of writings on (...)
