    The anatomy of auxin perception.Stefan Kepinski - 2007 - Bioessays 29 (10):953-956.
Auxin is a simple molecule but one with a complex and crucial influence on plant development. Accumulation and response to this important plant hormone underlies events as diverse as embryo patterning and growth responses to light and gravity. As such, research on auxin can be traced back to Darwin and has flourished into an immense body of work that has often had implications beyond plant biology. The latest instalment of the auxin story is no different:(1) the solution of the crystal (...)

The wall of silence surrounding literature and remembrance: Varlam Shalamov’s “Artificial Limbs”, Etc. as a metaphor of the soviet empire.Marcin Kępiński - 2020 - Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Litteraria Polonica 57 (2):7-25.
Literature of an autobiographical character acquires a special significance in the world of the bloody tragic events of the 20th century, i.e. the Holocaust, the Second World War, the realities of the Nazi and Soviet totalitarianisms, death camps, and forced labour. Those are the recollections of experienced trauma which shatters identity, and of existential experiences of a borderline nature, of which Shalamov, a witness to the epoch, felt an obligation to talk. An anthropological analysis of Varlam Shalamov’s short story titled (...)

    Antoni Kępiński’s Philosophy of Medicine – an alternative reading.Jakub Zawiła-Niedźwiecki - 2016 - Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Philosophica. Ethica-Aesthetica-Practica 28:23--35.
Antoni Kępiński remains an often read and quoted author even 40 years after his premature death. Usually he is read in the context of his times and his connections with contemporary philosophy. This paper aims to show other aspects of his reflections on psychiatry. His views on the position of psychiatry within medicine, its methods, psychophysical problems, and other issues are compared with current knowledge and current thought paradigms. The goal is to show that while Kępiński was obviously (...)

Antoni Kępińskis „Informationsmetabolismus“ und Niklas Luhmanns „Autopoiesis“. Zwei Begriffe – ein Konzept?Florian Steger & Maximilian Schochow - 2016 - Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Philosophica. Ethica-Aesthetica-Practica 28:37--49.
In Luhmanns (...)

Sources of morality in the philosophical anthropology of Antoni Kępiński.Ewa Buchwald - 2022 - Philosophical Discourses 4:73-84.
Antoni Kępiński, one of the most famous Polish psychiatrists, points to man as an ethical being. The philosopher is aware that particular moral norms have their different origins. According to his concept, their primary source is natural law. From it stem basic human decisions. In addition to this most important source, Kępiński also lists other sources that may also have an impact on human decisions. As one of the few professors, he points to genetic predispositions as one of (...)

  7. Patient–Doctor Relations in Antoni Kępiński’s Axiological Psychiatry.Aleksandra Bulaczek - 2013 - Ethics and Bioethics (in Central Europe) 3 (1-2):39-45.
The author of the article helps to understand the patient-doctor relation in the light of axiological psychiatry developed by the Polish psychiatrist, Antoni Kępiński (1918–1972). Kępiński was a doctor who, with great dedication and reverence, fulfilled his duties towards patients. First of all, he paid special attention to the uniqueness and specificity of the level of contact between a doctor and a patient and pointed out its friendly character. The article also introduces the sources of the axiological psychiatry (...)

Heuristic Potential of Antoni Kępiński’s Information Metabolism Model and Data Smog.Michał Stelmach - 2020 - Studies in Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric 63 (1):121-139.
In this paper I present the explanatory potential of Antoni Kępiński’s model of information metabolism in the question of data smog (data glut, information overload). Kępiński’s model is not well known and the bibliography concerning the model of information metabolism is still rather poor. In the article I present the model as a good heuristics for explaining information exchange between the system and the environment. The particular aim of my deliberations is to use the model of information metabolism (...)

W stronę człowieka, Wokół koncepcji filozofii Antoniego Kępińskiego [In the direction of man. About Antoni Kępiński's conception of philosophy].Paweł Stanisław Czarnecki - 1970 - Forum Philosophicum: International Journal for Philosophy 9 (1):298-299.
Assuming, according to Jaspers, that the measure of truth of a philosophical system is the lifestyle of its creator as well as his ability at drawing conclusions resulting from philosophical speculation to the requirements of practical action, the question must be asked, to what extent, if at all Wojciech Słomski's book tries to recognise and name the philosophically characteristic merging of theory and practise. Despite this, it shouldn't be the superior aim of any biography, let alone the biography of a (...)

Integrating Ethics with Psychiatry. The case of Antoni Kępiński.Paweł Łuków - 2016 - Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Philosophica. Ethica-Aesthetica-Practica 28:11--22.
This paper argues that in the case of mental illnesses whose somatic bases are not known or do not exist, a promising route to understand mental illness is to see it as the lack of a patient’s engagement with some moral values that are necessary for a good human life. The paper explains how the first-person perspective, which is constitutive for mental illnesses, makes it impossible to provide an adequate, third-person explanation of the pathological. Because of its irreducible first-personal nature, (...)

The Hideout, the Underground, and Avoidance of Non-Being: Tischner, Dostoevsky and Tillich on Personality Disorders.Konrad Banicki - 2020 - Diametros 19 (71):1-14.
An attempt is made to develop a basic framework for an existential-phenomenological perspective on personality disorders. Its starting point is taken from the psychiatrist Antoni Kępiński and the philosopher Józef Tischner. The former provides a clinical framework capacious enough to allow ethical, existential, and phenomenological explorations. This conceptual “space” is then explicitly recognized, addressed, and fulfilled by the latter’s investigation of personality dynamics proper to “the hideout.” In order to supplement this thread of thought with a specific illustration, a (...)

La composante tragique dans le rôle social du savant.Jan Jerschina - 1988 - Etyka 24:137-153.
This is an attempt to outline the range of problems that should be taken into account when studying the ethos of scholars. The author sets forth from an uncommon starting point. He does not construct “an ideal model of the ethos of the scholar”, neither is he concerned with the “pathology of academic life”. Such approaches are dubbed “normative-functional” by the author, and without implicating that they are methodologically implausible he refrains from using them due to the simple consideration that (...)

Ethik in der Psychiatrie und Psychotherapie.Florian Steger, Jan C. Joerden & Anej M. Kaniowski (eds.)

Recognition and Diagnosis from the Perspective of an Anthropological Philosophy of Culture.Zofia Rosińska - 2018 - Eidos. A Journal for Philosophy of Culture 2 (4):89-99.
The aim of my article is to analyze the concepts and phenomena of diagnosis and recognition, often considered to be semantically identical. While in psychiatric practice such an identity does not necessarily have adverse effects, in the anthropological and cultural domains identification of diagnosis and recognition may cause stigmatization, or other undesirable consequences. The article attempts to justify this thesis.
