The German linguist and mythologist Heymann Steinthal taught at the University of Berlin and was especially engaged with Wilhelm von Humboldt and his linguistic works. He was a co-founder of the Berliner Gesellschaft für Anthropologie, Ethnologie und Urgeschichte. This innovatory volume, published in 1855, draws a connection between the disciplines of linguistics and psychology, and further relates them to the issue of logic. The three parts of the book deal with the nature of grammar, its relation to logic and the (...) connection of grammar and linguistics to cognitive behaviour. Finally Steinthal discusses the idea of linguistics as ethnopsychology. Pursuing this concept, he, with his brother-in-law Moritz Lazarus, co-founded the journal Zeitschrift für Völkerpsychologie und Sprachwissenschaft in 1860, thus laying the foundations for a promising new area of research. Propose une sélection de près de 200 lettres, des premiers échanges du jeune Buber avec Theodore Herzl, le fondateur du sionisme, jusqu'à l'année de sa mort en 1965. Sa correspondance montre qu'il a toujours souhaité un retour de la diaspora juive en Palestine.

First, we model the structure (and therefore the meaning of the) data using an Entity-Relationship approach. The ER model leads to a clean design of a relational database schema for storing and retrieving the DNA and protein data extracted from various sources. Our approach provides the clean basis for building complex biological applications that are more amenable to changes and software ports than their file-base counterparts. (shrink)

With this introduction we aim to illuminate Western Europe's place on the map of Cold War science and, specifically, to draw attention to the differences in and the diversity of Western European Cold War science in comparison to the United States. By discussing narratives of Cold War science in small states and asking how they fit into the European condition, we suggest that the fact of being a small state affects the conditions for and the scope of Cold War science. En el primero de los dos estudios se señala el enfrentamiento entre una estética de la inventiva, para la cual la relación con la realidad y la alternativa de lo verdadero y falso son insignificantes, y una estética afincada en el deseo de dar voz a la percepción y al sentir como contrapeso a la opinión convencionalizada, que tiene un velo sobre la realidad en la cual vivimos. El segundo estudio parte del conflicto político entre una ética de la responsabilidad (...) y una estética para la cual la irresponsabilidad no es sólo parte de la creación artística, sino también parte esencial de una forma de vida que toma como modelo al arte. Una ética que supera sus formas tribalistas y se desarrolla como atención a la voz del otro se emparenta en cambio con la estética de la escucha de la voz ignorada en nosotros mismos. The first of the two studies presents the opposition between two forms of aesthetics: aesthetics of invention, in which the issues of the relation with reality and the choice between true and false are meaningless questions, and an aesthetics grounded on perception and feeling as contrasted to conventional opinion that veils the reality of life. The second study starts from the political conflict between an ethics of responsibility and a conception of aesthetics in which irresponsibility not only is a part of artistic creation, but also an essential part of the life that is modelled on art. An ethics that overcomes its tribal forms and develops attention to the other's voice draws near to an aesthetics of attention to the often-ignored voice of the self.  . (shrink)
