As with other areas of the social world, academic research in the contemporary healthcare setting has undergone adaptation and change. For example, research methods are increasingly incorporating citizen participation in the research process, and there has been an increase in collaborative research that brings academic and industry partners together. There have been numerous positive outcomes associated with both of these growing methodological and collaborative processes; nonetheless, both bring with them ethical considerations that require careful thought and attention. Au sujet de la mémoire on a couramment deux présupposés. En parlant de la mémoire, on semble la considérer comme une faculté unifiée. Et on a l’habitude de la penser comme une faculté conservatrice. C’est pourtant une image bien différente qui émerge de la recherche contemporaine. Dans ce texte, nous proposons une histoire de l’émergence de l’hypothèse d’une dimension constructive de la mémoire épisodique, en dégageant trois dimensions de la construction : une dimension culturelle, une dimension intersubjective, et une dimension (...) individuelle. L’ascension et la chute récentes de la loi islamiste en Égypte appellent une réflexion, non seulement sur le rôle social des idées féministes islamiques, mais aussi sur les raisons des changements politiques, ainsi que sur les questions d’opposition éthique et de principe. Mon approche de ce sujet ne reprend pas l’opposition habituelle entre laïc et islamique, ni la critique du libéralisme laïc, mais propose une critique de tout mouvement féministe, qu’il soit laïc ou islamique, qui s’autorise de lui-même à coopérer (...) ou à être réduit au silence par des régimes politiques corrompus. La première partie de l’article traite de la question des relations fragiles entre les féministes et l’État plus particulièrement dans le contexte égyptien contemporain. In this article we discuss the question of whether a robotic carer could every really care. We argue that care is largely a matter of expressive and performative states rather than internal cognitive or emotional ones. We address the question of "authenticity" in caring and care work.

This paper reports on an investigation of gaze patterns and other non-verbal behavior in dyadic, problem-solving based interactions. In a planning activity, participants are given an instruction sheet and a physical map of a zoo. Both participants must coordinate their actions to find a common solution to the problem. This paper aims at examining how activity-based interactions vary from other interactions, such as everyday conversation and story-telling. The findings of this paper suggest that participants’ non-verbal behavior, such as smiling, nodding (...) and in particular gaze, varies according to the interactional organization. In egalitarian interactions gaze directed at the other person occurs together with meta-task utterances, for example personal and humorous remarks. This paper highlights the role of gaze in task-based interactions to show that gaze is an integral part of stance taking, as it enables participants to position themselves in a joint activity. Cet article soutient que les voitures autonomes sont des robots sociaux qui doivent agir comme des tenants-lieux de leurs propriétaires humains. Pour ne pas esquiver les choix moraux incombant aux utilisateurs humains de ces technologies, on pourrait programmer les véhicules de façon à ce qu’ils puissent se comporter selon différentes théories morales, en permettant aux propriétaires de choisir celle qui a leur préférence. L’article envisage également les implications éthiques d’autres problèmes pratiques liés à la technologie des voitures autonomes.

The essay examines Robin Cook’s Coma and Priscille Sibley’s The Promise of Stardust that dramatize the reified and disposable status of the brain-dead patients who are classified as nonpersons. The essay argues that the man-machine entanglement as depicted in the novels constructs a deterritorialized and entangled form of subjectivity that intervenes in the dominant biomedical understanding of personhood and agency that we notionally associate with a conscious mind. The essay concludes its arguments by discussing Alexander Beliaev’s Professor Dowell’s Head (...) which depicts human subjectivity as an essentially embodied and distributive phenomenon and interrogates the Cartesian mind body dualism embedded in the dominant biomedical narratives.
