En el presente artículo se analiza la noción de nostalgia de futuro para comprender su significado en el contexto de la filosofía transhumanista y en el de la filosofía de Leonardo Polo. Se ha elegido como representantes del transhumanismo a los que históricamente son sus padres intelectuales: Julian Huxley y Fereidoun M. Esfandiary, quien más tarde cambió su nombre a FM-2030. Italian Constitutional Justice in Global Context is the first book ever published in English to provide an international examination of the Italian Constitutional Court, offering a comprehensive analysis of its principal lines of jurisprudence, historical origins, organization, procedures, and its current engagement with transnational European law. The ItCC represents one of the strongest and most successful examples of constitutional judicial review, and is distinctive in its structure, institutional dimensions, and well-developed jurisprudence. Moreover, the ItCC has developed a distinctive voice among (...) global constitutional actors in its adjudication of a broad range of topics from fundamental rights and liberties to the allocations of governmental power and regionalism. Nevertheless, in global constitutional dialog, the voice of the ItCC has been almost entirely absent due to a relative lack of both English translations of its decisions and of focused scholarly commentary in English.This book describes the "Italian Style" in global constitutional adjudication, and aims to elevate Italian constitutional jurisprudence to an active participant role in global constitutional discourse. The authors have carefully structured the work to allow the ItCC's own voice to emerge. It presents broad syntheses of major areas of the Court's case law, provides excerpts from notable decisions in a narrative and analytical context, addresses the tension between the ItCC and the Court of Cassation, and positions the development, character, and importance of the ItCC's jurisprudence in the larger arc of global judicial dialog. This essay aims to reappraise Agnes Arber's contribution to the history of science with reference to her work in the history of botany and biology. Both her first and her last books are classics: the former in the history of botany, the latter in that of biology. As such, they are still cited today, albeit with increasing criticism. Her very last book was rejected by Cambridge University Press because it did not meet the publisher's academic standards – we shall return (...) to it in due course. Despite Kathryn Packer's two essays about Arber's life in context, much remains to be done toward a just appreciation of her research. We need such a reappraisal in order to avoid anachronistic criticisms of her contributions to the historiography of botany, or, on the other hand, uncritical applause for her studies in plant morphology. Ist Geschichtsdarstellung ein transparentes Fenster zu einer faktischen Vergangenheit? Oder verlieren Fakten ihre Verbindlichkeit zugunsten der Repräsentation? Der vorliegende Band weist einen vermittelnden Weg zwischen diesen Extremen. Jenseits der positivistisch verstandenen historischen Fakten sowie der infolge des linguistic turn häufig behaupteten Unzugänglichkeit und Unentscheidbarkeit der faktischen Vergangenheit wird die Geschichtsdarstellung selbst als das eigentlich Greifbare zur Geltung gebracht. Geschichte ist demnach in ihrer Darstellung zu suchen – unabhängig davon, ob es sich um historiographische Quellen, literarische Texte, Gemälde oder um Museen (...) als mediale Darstellungsräume handelt. Die Beiträge gehen einem breiten Spektrum unterschiedlicher Dimensionen von Geschichtsdarstellung nach. Medien, Methoden und Strategien bilden dabei die zentralen Koordinaten, anhand derer Geschichtsdarstellung mit ihren narrativen und bildlichen Ausdrucksformen exemplarisch erörtert wird. Die Korrespondenz zwischen körperlichen Merkmalen und dem Charakter eines Menschen, die im 19. Jahrhundert die Matrix für die Naturwissenschaften fungierte, stellt heute die Basis von Lifestyle-Normen oder auch von psychologischer und medizinischer Diagnostik dar. Infolge strukturalistisch-semiotischer Methoden gilt die Physiognomik immer noch als Deutungsdispositiv bei Formen literarischer Personendarstellungen oder philosophischer Deutung menschlichen Antlitzes. In den durch umfangreiche mediale und technische Umwälzungen hervorgebrachten Modellierungen der Sinnlichkeit erweist sich die Physiognomik auch als Paradigma des Enhancements. Der Band untersucht historisch und systematisch die (...) biopolitische Performativität physiognomischer Praktiken der Selbst- und Fremddeutung, ihre Gestaltung sowie ihre Transformationen durch neue Technologien. Er diskutiert ihre materiell-mediale Dynamik, das in der Ästhetik von Texten und Medien implizierte Lebenswissen, Formen der Affektforschung sowie die anthropozentrischen Implikationen der Physiognomik. El objeto del presente artículo es el estudio y comparación del transhumanismo de Julian Huxley y del trasumanar de Dante Alighieri. Aunque sean autores separados en el tiempo, están conectados por el hecho de que el trasumanar de Dante inspiró la formulación de la palabra con la que Huxley definió su filosofía, el transhumanismo. De este modo, se recorre a lo largo del artículo el pensamiento de Dante hasta llegar, después, al de Huxley con el objetivo de compararlos y comprobar (...) el alcance antropológico de ambas propuestas filosóficas. Giordano Bruno’s interest in magic was not a marginal aspect of his philosophy. In the magical works written in 1589 and 1591, Bruno carried out his project of a cultural reform, which he also conceived as a pratical renovatio. In De magia naturali Bruno undertook a careful theoretical reexamination of Renaissance magic in order to ground its "experimental data" on physical foundation. Some traditional notions , which Bruno found in his sources and made use of, are analyzed in his paper (...) to show the deep change they underwent in the light of Bruno’s new ontology and cosmology. Na educação popular brasileira o termo �conscientização� é de uso muito freqüente. Muito citado nos diálogos cotidianos e nas elaborações escritas, não é sempre problematizado e historiado. Muitas vezes, especialmente nos âmbitos da educação formal, a circulação deste termo perdeu o seu sentido mais profundo e suas implicações políticas de transformação da sociedade. Neste artigo se problematiza o termo �conscientização� a partir da reflexão sobre outra palavra que pertence a filosofia política: a �práxis�. A práxis e seu vínculo com a (...) ação prático-reflexiva provoca o sentido político da conscientização e sua ligação com a experiência transformadora da educação. (shrink)

The causal characters (spacelike, lightlike, timelike) of the coordinate lines, coordinate surfaces and coordinate hypersurfaces of a coordinate system in Relativity define what is called its causal class. It is known that, in any relativistic space-time, there exist one hundred and ninety nine such causal classes. But in Newtonian physics (where only spacelike and timelike characters exist) the corresponding causal classes have not been discussed until recently. Here it is shown that, in sharp contrast with the relativistic case, in Newtonian (...) space-time the different causal classes of coordinate systems are drastically reduced to four. These causal classes admit simple geometric descriptions and physical interpretations. For example, it is shown that one can generate coordinate systems of the four causal classes by means of the sole linear synchronization group, i.e. by coordinate transformations that only change the origin of time linearly. The relativistic analogs of these examples are also considered. (shrink)

Las actividades de fomento de la cultura científica se han convertido en una práctica habitual de las instituciones de investigación, que destinan presupuesto y recursos humanos a este objetivo. Cada vez más personal científico y técnico incorpora esta misión a sus tradicionales tareas de investigación y formación. Sin embargo, mientras la investigación y la docencia cuentan con indicadores establecidos, las actividades de divulgación siguen estando consideradas como un ejercicio extraordinario, pocas veces reconocido institucionalmente. En este sentido, el uso de unos (...) indicadores de cultura científica contribuiría a favorecer un cambio de mentalidad y a la obtención de datos objetivos sobre los que orientar las acciones de comunicación social de la ciencia. En este contexto, el Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), a través de su Vicepresidencia Adjunta de Cultura Científica, se ha propuesto analizar las actividades desarrolladas en esta línea, entre 2011 y 2019, en relación a los siguientes indicadores: 1) la inversión económica; 2) el personal dedicado a cultura científica; 3) el número y tipo de actividades; y 4) el público al que se llega. Entre las principales conclusiones, destaca que el CSIC cuenta con una masa crítica más o menos estable de unas 200 personas que se dedican a tareas de cultura científica. Cada año se realizan alrededor de 15.000 actividades (presenciales y no presenciales) en las que se implican alrededor de 3.000 trabajadoras y trabajadores del CSIC. Cada año participan cerca de un millón y medio de personas de manera presencial. (shrink)

“Posthumano” se ha convertido en un término paraguas para referirse a una variedad de movimientos y escuelas de pensamiento diferentes, incluyendo el posthumanismo filosófico, cultural y crítico; el transhumanismo (en sus variantes de extropianismo, transhumanismo liberal y democrático, entre otras); el enfoque feminista de los nuevos materialismos; el paisaje heterogéneo del antihumanismo, metahumanismo, metahumanidades y posthumanidades. Este uso genérico y global del término ha creado confusión metodológica y teórica entre expertos y no expertos. Este ensayo explorará las diferencias entre estos (...) movimientos, centrándose en particular en las áreas de significación que comparten el posthumanismo y el transhumanismo. Al presentar estas dos filosofías independientes, aunque relacionadas, el posthumanismo puede resultar un punto de vista más completo para reflexionar sobre posibles futuros. (shrink)

We study ultimatum and dictator variants of the generosity game. In this game, the first mover chooses the amount of money to be distributed between the players within a given interval, knowing that her own share is fixed. Thus, the first mover is not confronted with the typical trade-off between her own and the other’s payoff. For each variant of the game, we study three treatments that vary the range of potential pie sizes so as to assess the influence of (...) these changes on the first movers’ generosity. We find that removing the trade-off inspires significant generosity, which is not always affected by the second mover’s veto power. Moreover, the manipulation of the choice set indicates that choices are influenced by the available alternatives. (shrink)

In the context of Posthuman Studies, attention towards education is gaining increasing significance to address the anthropocentric axioms embedded in contemporary worldviews. What is posthumanist education? This paper addresses this question affirming the importance of embodying posthumanist theory in practice. Attention will be dedicated to three original keywords: selves-care; flex(st)ability; commUnity. They will be investigated as possible posthumanist focuses to respond to current educational needs. This paper is not purely theoretical; it is anchored in material experiences that are being explored (...) by posthuman communities worldwide. We will reflect, more specifically, on the Posthuman Summer Camp, a collaborative event organized by the Italian Posthuman Network (Italy, August 10–13 2023). In this essay, the realities and possibilities that emerged during the first edition of the Camp are embraced as embodied and embedded, experiential and experimental – clearly, existential – praxes, enlightening our vision quest on posthumanist education. Audioscan Milano explores the strategies and experiments in the field of sound and noise of Milan’s legendary Studio di Fonologia Musicale. A multimedia installation composed of hundreds of field recordings of the city of Milan, Audioscan Milano provides its audience with a multisensory experience of the urban soundscape and the opportunity to interact with it digitally. The manipulation of noise and its transformation into musical sound via sophisticated electronic equipment emulates the Studio’s audio techniques but also exposes the reasons behind (...) its failure to attract a wider audience. Visitors to Audioscan Milano expect to hear urban noise rather than musical sounds and, despite some enthusiasm around being able to mix sound objects on the map and move them around the room, they fail to appreciate the technical subtleties of the procedures behind the music. Ultimately, Audioscan Milano constitutes an important link to Italy’s musical heritage of the 1950s and 1960s and can learn from its limitations, particularly when it comes to engaging the audience to play a more active role in the auditory experience of the city. En el año 2017, el profesor Antonio Diéguez Lucena nos brindó la oportunidad de conocer sintéticamente el pensamiento transhumanista cuando publicó Transhumanismo. La búsqueda tecnológica del mejoramiento humano. Fue una gran oportunidad para el público de habla hispana la recepción de una obra de estas características, pues Diéguez logró, con rigor académico y profundo diálogo filosófico, abordar las principales cuestiones —tanto desde un punto de vista cultural como tecnológico— que el pensamiento transhumanista plantea. La labor investigadora y divulgadora del profesor (...) Diéguez no acabó con esa publicación. Por eso, en plena pandemia del COVID-19, publicó en el año 2021 su último libro sobre el pensamiento transhumanista, en el que continúa reflexionando sobre algunos temas tratados en el anterior y los desarrolla. La obra se titula Cuerpos inadecuados. El desafío transhumanista a la filosofía. Con su estilo sutil y discreto, Diéguez cuestiona las promesas transhumanistas de nuevo y nos invita a leerle con detenimiento, pues paulatinamente desarticula parte del andamiaje filosófico del transhumanismo enfriando, como en su primera obra sobre este tema, las promesas de este movimiento tecnocultural. Ofrecemos en este trabajo un estudio de contraste entre la descripción que hace Sībawayhi, el más reconocido de los gramáticos árabes, de los esquemas de plural fracto de uno de los esquemas de singular, faʿal (a modo de ejemplo) y los datos extraídos de algunas obras lexicográficas árabes y del corpus de textos árabes reunidos en algunas bases de datos disponibles. Una vez analizado el método del gramático de Basora en la recogida y sistematización de datos, el objetivo es comprobar (...) si la información que proporciona coincide con la aportada por los diccionarios y textos árabes. Estudiamos de forma particular el tratamiento de los casos de alomorfía, esto es, el uso de varios plurales para un mismo singular, tratando de dilucidar si se trata de una alomorfía libre o motivada. In spite of its renown in literary circles, the collection of 59 maqāmāt written by al-Saraqusṭī has only attracted scant attention among Western critics. The aim of this short article is to fill that void, at least partially, and help publicise the contents and style of al-Saraqusṭī´s work. This article includes an annotated translation of the maqāma of Tarifa, one of the most interesting as far as narrative structure is concerned. The translation is preceded with a series of comments on (...) two particular aspects that constitute, in fact, two alternative methods of analysis: the structured arrangement of narrative material and the rhythmic patterns that characterise the rhymed prose used in the work, marked by the length and syllabic quality of verses and couplets.
