Crosstalk between Cell Adhesion Complexes in Regulation of Mechanotransduction.Alba Zuidema, Wei Wang & Arnoud Sonnenberg - 2020 - Bioessays 42 (11):2000119.
Physical forces regulate numerous biological processes during development, physiology, and pathology. Forces between the external environment and intracellular actin cytoskeleton are primarily transmitted through integrin‐containing focal adhesions and cadherin‐containing adherens junctions. Crosstalk between these complexes is well established and modulates the mechanical landscape of the cell. However, integrins and cadherins constitute large families of adhesion receptors and form multiple complexes by interacting with different ligands, adaptor proteins, and cytoskeletal filaments. Recent findings indicate that integrin‐containing hemidesmosomes oppose force transduction and traction (...)

Being together in youth worship: An empirical study in Protestant Dutch contexts.Ronelle Sonnenberg, Malan Nel, Jos De Kock & Marcel Barnard - 2015 - HTS Theological Studies 71 (2):01-10.
In a qualitative empirical research project on youth worship, we discovered that 'being together' is primary quality of youth worship. This primary quality consists of at least four aspects. Firstly, community is celebrated through physical presence. More specifically, the physical presence of siblings plays an important part in the participation of youth in worship. Secondly, an empathetic and emotional aspect is essential for adolescents. 'Being together' in youth worship means being together in unity and trust and in equality, as kindred (...)

Reading Augustine in the Reformation: The Flexibility of Intellectual Authority in Europe, 1500-1620.Arnoud S. Q. Visser - 2011 - Oup Usa.
Augustine of Hippo was regarded by sixteenth century Europe as one of the most contested religious and philosophical authorities. Through deep examination of the production, circulation and consumption of Augustine's works, Arnoud Visser reveals the wildly contrasting ways in which he was read and appropriated by publishers, humanist scholars, and individual readers.

O Ye Gentlemen: Arabic Studies on Science and Literary Culture: In Honour of Remke Kruk.Arnoud Vrolijk (ed.) - 2007 - Brill.
O ye Gentlemen explores two permanent and vital strands in Arabic culture: the Greek tradition in science and philosophy and the literary tradition. More than thirty essays demonstrate that the strands freely interweave within the broader scope of Schrifttum.

Decision making in health care: theory, psychology, and applications.Gretchen B. Chapman & Frank A. Sonnenberg (eds.) - 2000 - New York: Cambridge University Press.
Decision making is a crucial element in the field of medicine. The physician has to determine what is wrong with the patient and recommend treatment, while the patient has to decide whether or not to seek medical care, and go along with the treatment recommended by the physician. Health policy makers and health insurers have to decide what to promote, what to discourage, and what to pay for. Together, these decisions determine the quality of health care that is provided. Decision (...)

Tyrosine kinase receptors in the control of epithelial growth and morphogenesis during development.Carmen Birchmeier, Eva Sonnenberg, K. Michael Weidner & Barbara Walter - 1993 - Bioessays 15 (3):185-190.
The c‐ros, c‐met and c‐neu genes encode receptor‐type tyrosine kinases and were originally identified because of their oncogenic potential. However, recent progress in the analysis of these receptors and their respective ligands indicate that they do not mediate exclusively mitogenic signals. Rather, they can induce cell movement, differentiation or morphogenesis of epithelial cells in culture. Interestingly, the discussed receptors are expressed in embryonal epithelia, whereas direct and indirect evidence shows that the corresponding ligands are produced in mesenchymal cells. In development, (...)

Developing a digital informed consent app: opportunities and challenges of a new format to inform and obtain consent in public health research.Luuk V. Haring, Joy T. Hall, Anton Janssen, J. Marleen Johannes, Arnoud P. Verhoeff & Joanne K. Ujcic-Voortman - 2023 - BMC Medical Ethics 24 (1):1-10.
Background Informed consent procedures for large population-based cohort studies should be comprehensive and easy-to-use. This is particularly challenging when participants from different socio-economic groups and multicultural ethnic backgrounds are involved. Recently, more and more studies have tried to use multimedia in informed consent procedures. We describe the development and testing of a digital informed consent app and elaborate on whether this may contribute to a comprehensive and practical procedure to obtain informed consent for public health research. Methods In a sample (...)

Testing for sexually transmitted infections in a population-based sexual health survey: development of an acceptable ethical approach: Table 1.Nigel Field, Clare Tanton, Catherine H. Mercer, Soazig Nicholson, Kate Soldan, Simon Beddows, Catherine Ison, Anne M. Johnson & Pam Sonnenberg - 2012 - Journal of Medical Ethics 38 (6):380-382.
Population-based research is enhanced by biological measures, but biological sampling raises complex ethical issues. The third British National Survey of Sexual Attitudes and Lifestyles (Natsal-3) will estimate the population prevalence of five sexually transmitted infections (STIs) (Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, human papillomavirus (HPV), HIV and Mycoplasma genitalium) in a probability sample aged 16–44 years. The present work describes the development of an ethical approach to urine testing for STIs, including the process of reaching consensus on whether to return results. The (...)

  21. Arnoud Bayart's Modal Completeness Theorems — Translated with an Introduction and Commentary.M. J. Cresswell - 2015 - Logique Et Analyse 229 (1):89-142.
In 1958 Arnould Bayart, 1911-1998, produced a semantics for first and second-order S5 modal logic, and in 1959 a completeness proof for first-order S5, and what he calls a 'quasi-completeness' proof for second-order S5. The 1959 paper is the first completeness proof for modal predicate logic based on the Henkin construction of maximal consistent sets, and indeed may be the easier application of the Henkin method even to propositional modal logic. The semantics is in terms of possible worlds, which, Bayart (...)

The Perils of Pollyanna: Development of the Over-Trust Construct.Sanjay Goel, Geoffrey G. Bell & Jon L. Pierce - 2005 - Journal of Business Ethics 58 (1-3):203-218.
. Management scholars and practitioners often believe that individuals and organizations benefit by trusting their work contacts. (Husted, 1998; Sonnenberg, 1994) Trust is generally viewed as “good” and imperative to a modern functioning economy (Blau, 1964; Hosmer, 1995; Zucker, 1986) Consequently, scholars and practitioners have given scant attention to the “downside” of trust, despite the fact that trust involves taking risk under conditions of uncertainty (Rousseau et al., 1998) Recent corporate scandals show that people suffer when they misplace trust (...)
