Rapid Review and Meta-Meta-Analysis of Self-Guided Interventions to Address Anxiety, Depression, and Stress During COVID-19 Social Distancing.Ronald Fischer, Tiago Bortolini, Johannes Alfons Karl, Marcelo Zilberberg, Kealagh Robinson, André Rabelo, Lucas Gemal, Daniel Wegerhoff, Megan Chrystal & Paulo Mattos - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11:563876.
We conducted a rapid review and quantitative summary of meta-analyses that have examined interventions which can be used by individuals during quarantine and social distancing to manage anxiety, depression, stress and subjective well-being. A literature search yielded 34 meta-analyses (total number of studies k = 1,390, n = 145,744) that were summarized. Overall, self-guided interventions showed small to medium effects in comparison to control groups. In particular, self-guided therapeutic approaches (including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, and acceptance-based interventions), selected positive psychology interventions, (...)

Defining ethical challenge(s) in healthcare research: a rapid review.Richard Huxtable, Lucy Ellen Selman, Mariana Dittborn & Guy Schofield - 2021 - BMC Medical Ethics 22 (1):1-17.
BackgroundDespite its ubiquity in academic research, the phrase ‘ethical challenge(s)’ appears to lack an agreed definition. A lack of a definition risks introducing confusion or avoidable bias. Conceptual clarity is a key component of research, both theoretical and empirical. Using a rapid review methodology, we sought to review definitions of ‘ethical challenge(s)’ and closely related terms as used in current healthcare research literature.MethodsRapid review to identify peer-reviewed reports examining ‘ethical challenge(s)’ in any context, extracting data on definitions of ‘ethical (...)

Adherence with reporting of ethical standards in COVID-19 human studies: a rapid review.Rachel K. Crowley, Peter Doran, Ronan P. Killeen & Lydia O’Sullivan - 2021 - BMC Medical Ethics 22 (1):1-10.
BackgroundPatients with COVID-19 may feel under pressure to participate in research during the pandemic. Safeguards to protect research participants include ethical guidelines [e.g. Declaration of Helsinki and good clinical practice (GCP)], legislation to protect participants’ privacy, research ethics committees (RECs) and informed consent. The International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) advises researchers to document compliance with these safeguards. Adherence to publication guidelines has been suboptimal in other specialty fields. The aim of this rapid review was to determine whether (...)

The influence of social capital on health issues among transgender and gender diverse people: a rapid review.Davide Costa - 2022 - Science and Philosophy 10 (2):109-131.
This article aims to analyze the current literature on the social capital of transgender and gender diverse(TGD) people, given their fragility in social and health terms. The paper followed the guidelines developed by Tricco, Langlois, and Straus. The results of this paper reveal significant gaps in the literature relating to the social capital of TGD people and highlight how the various types of shared capital are for sexual health to be considered in future research on transgender health. This is the (...)

Book Review The Republic of Grace: Augustinian Thoughts for Dark Times Mathewes Charles William B. Eerdmans Grand Rapids, MI. [REVIEW]J. THomas Howe - 2013 - American Journal of Theology and Philosophy 34 (1):82-86.
With The Republic of Grace: Augustinian Thoughts for Dark Times, Charles Mathewes has given us a timely book that, I imagine, will be so for many times to come. His purpose throughout is to "offer a primer in the Augustinian-Christian vernacular, a language of religious, moral, and political deliberation" (2). This language and way of understanding reality, Mathewes argues, can provide us with ways of thinking about our own lives in the world as political and social creatures. The "dark times" (...)

Ethical values and principles to guide the fair allocation of resources in response to a pandemic: a rapid systematic review.Áine Carroll, Cliona McGovern, Maeve Nolan, Áine O’Brien, Edelweiss Aldasoro & Lydia O’Sullivan - 2022 - BMC Medical Ethics 23 (1):1-11.
BackgroundThe coronavirus 2019 pandemic placed unprecedented pressures on healthcare services and magnified ethical dilemmas related to how resources should be allocated. These resources include, among others, personal protective equipment, personnel, life-saving equipment, and vaccines. Decision-makers have therefore sought ethical decision-making tools so that resources are distributed both swiftly and equitably. To support the development of such a decision-making tool, a systematic review of the literature on relevant ethical values and principles was undertaken. The aim of this review was to identify (...)

Parenting Styles and Disordered Eating Among Youths: A Rapid Scoping Review.Chloe Hampshire, Bérénice Mahoney & Sarah K. Davis - 2022 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
Youth is a critical period in the development of maladaptive eating behaviors. Previous systematic reviews suggest the etiological significance of parent-child relationships for the onset of disordered eating in youth, but less is known about the role of parenting styles. This rapid scoping review aimed to identify whether research supports the role of parenting styles in the development of disordered eating symptoms among youths. Sixteen studies, retrieved from three databases, met the inclusion criteria: original studies, published in English, (...)
