    Recursive Structures and Ershov's Hierarchy.Christopher J. Ash & Julia F. Knight - 1996 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 42 (1):461-468.
Ash and Nerode [2] gave natural definability conditions under which a relation is intrinsically r. e. Here we generalize this to arbitrary levels in Ershov's hierarchy of Δmath image sets, giving conditions under which a relation is intrinsically α-r. e.

    A Completeness Theorem for Certain Classes of Recursive Infinitary Formulas.Christopher J. Ash & Julia F. Knight - 1994 - Mathematical Logic Quarterly 40 (2):173-181.
We consider the following generalization of the notion of a structure recursive relative to a set X. A relational structure A is said to be a Γ-structure if for each relation symbol R, the interpretation of R in A is ∑math image relative to X, where β = Γ. We show that a certain, fairly obvious, description of classes ∑math image of recursive infinitary formulas has the property that if A is a Γ-structure and S is a further relation on (...)

Affect enhances object-background associations: evidence from behaviour and mathematical modelling.Christopher R. Madan, Aubrey G. Knight, Elizabeth A. Kensinger & Katherine R. Mickley Steinmetz - 2020 - Cognition and Emotion 34 (5):960-969.
In recognition memory paradigms, emotional details are often recognised better than neutral ones, but at the cost of memory for peripheral details. We previously provided evidence that, when periph...

Making the right connections: biological networks in the light of evolution.Christopher G. Knight & John W. Pinney - 2009 - Bioessays 31 (10):1080-1090.
Our understanding of how evolution acts on biological networks remains patchy, as is our knowledge of how that action is best identified, modelled and understood. Starting with network structure and the evolution of protein–protein interaction networks, we briefly survey the ways in which network evolution is being addressed in the fields of systems biology, development and ecology. The approaches highlighted demonstrate a movement away from a focus on network topology towards a more integrated view, placing biological properties centre‐stage. We argue (...)

    An eastern orthodox critique of the science–theology dialogue.Christopher C. Knight - 2016 - Zygon 51 (3):573-591.
On the basis of both philosophical arguments and the theological perspectives of Eastern Orthodox Christianity, a critique of two beliefs that are common within the mainstream science–theology dialogue is outlined. These relate to critical realism in understanding language usage and to naturalistic perspectives in relation to divine action. While the naturalistic perspectives on the history of the cosmos that are predominant within the dialogue are seen as generally acceptable from an Orthodox perspective, it is argued that they require theological expansion. (...)

Human Identity at the Intersection of Science, Technology and Religion.Nancey C. Murphy & Christopher C. Knight - 2010 - Routledge.
Science and religion have often been thought to be at loggerheads but much contemporary work in this flourishing interdisciplinary field suggests this is far from the case. The Ashgate Science and Religion Series presents exciting new work to advance interdisciplinary study, research and debate across key themes in science and religion, exploring the philosophical relations between the physical and social sciences on the one hand and religious belief on the other. Contemporary issues in philosophy and theology are debated, as are (...)

A Love Beyond Belief: The Knight of Faith as Feminine, Revolutionary Subject.Christopher Martien Boerdam - 2018 - International Journal of Žižek Studies 12 (3).
In the appendix of his latest book, Incontinence of the Void, Žižek presents an account of how, according to his dialectical materialism, love can overcome death. This article situates Žižek ’s argument in the context of his ontology and his theory of the subject to explicate how Žižek arrives at this position: one that appears, on the surface, to be inconsistent with a staunch materialist and atheistic stance. Building on Žižek ’s references to Kierkegaard in this appendix, I will furthermore (...)
