What Sparks Ethical Decision Making? The Interplay Between Moral Intuition and Moral Reasoning: Lessons from the Scholastic Doctrine.Lamberto Zollo, Massimiliano Matteo Pellegrini & Cristiano Ciappei - 2017 - Journal of Business Ethics 145 (4):681-700.
Recent theories on cognitive science have stressed the significance of moral intuition as a counter to and complementary part of moral reasoning in decision making. Thus, the aim of this paper is to create an integrated framework that can account for both intuitive and reflective cognitive processes, in order to explore the antecedents of ethical decision making. To do that, we build on Scholasticism, an important medieval school of thought from which descends the main pillars of the modern Catholic social (...)

The Consumers’ Emotional Dog Learns to Persuade Its Rational Tail: Toward a Social Intuitionist Framework of Ethical Consumption.Lamberto Zollo - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 168 (2):295-313.
Literature on consumers’ ethical decision making is rooted in a rationalist perspective that emphasizes the role of moral reasoning. However, the view of ethical consumption as a thorough rational and conscious process fails to capture important elements of human cognition, such as emotions and intuitions. Based on moral psychology and microsociology, this paper proposes a holistic and integrated framework showing how emotive and intuitive information processing may foster ethical consumption at individual and social levels. The model builds on social intuitionism (...)

    Cultural and Historical Aspects of Eating Disorders.Jules R. Bemporad - 1997 - Theoretical Medicine 18 (4):401-420.
A review of cultural and historical accounts of anorexia nervosa indicates that this disorder is found primarily in Westernized societies during periods of relative affluence and greater social opportunities for women. Some hypotheses regarding the vulnerability to eating disorders are proposed to the basis of these data.

    Metafisica ed Esperienza in Ricoeur e Merleau-Ponty.Lamberto Colombo - 2015 - Chiasmi International 17:291-307.

  16. Dementia praecox as a failure of neoteny.Jules R. Bemporad - 1991 - Theoretical Medicine and Bioethics 12 (1).
The theory of neoteny assumes that adult animals that are higher on the phylogenetic scale retain juvenile characteristics for greater periods of their lifetime. This hypothesis would account for the continuation of curiosity, learning and playfulness in humans and other higher primates in contrast to less evolved mammals. The failure of the neoteny process could result in humans that have lost these juvenile characteristics and lack motivation, curiosity and the capacity to learn freely. These features are indicative of the negative (...)

The enormous increasing of connections between people and the noteworthy enlargement of domains and methods in sciences have augmented extraordinarily the cardinality of the set of meaningful human symbols. We know that complexity is always on the way to become complication, i.e. a non-tractable topic. For this reason scholars engage themselves more and more in attempting to tame plurality and chaos. In this book distinguished scientists, philosophers and historians of science reflect on the topic from a multidisciplinary point of view. (...)
