Why the Voting Age Should Be Lowered to 16.Tommy Peto - 2018 - Politics, Philosophy and Economics 17 (3):277-297.
This article examines whether the voting age should be lowered to 16. The dominant view in the literature is that 16-year-olds in the United Kingdom are not politically mature enough to vote since they lack political knowledge, political interest and stable political preferences. I reject this conclusion and instead argue that the voting age should be lowered to 16. First, I look at Chan and Clayton’s empirical claims and show that these features of 16- and 17-year-olds are in fact created (...)

Art and Theatre for Health in Rural Cambodia.Chea Nguon, Lek Dysoley, Chan Davoeung, Yok Sovann, Nou Sanann, Ma Sareth, Pich Kunthea, San Vuth, Kem Sovann, Kayna Kol, Chhouen Heng, Rouen Sary, Thomas J. Peto, Rupam Tripura, Renly Lim & Phaik Yeong Cheah - 2018 - Global Bioethics 29 (1):16-21.
ABSTRACTThis article describes our experience using art and theatre to engage rural communities in western Cambodia to understand malaria and support malaria control and elimination. The project was a pilot science–arts initiative to supplement existing engagement activities conducted by local authorities. In 2016, the project was conducted in 20 villages, involved 300 community members and was attended by more than 8000 people. Key health messages were to use insecticide-treated bed-nets and repellents, febrile people should attend village malaria workers, and to (...)

The Use of Placebo in a Trial of Rectal Artesunate as Initial Treatment for Severe Malaria Patients En Route to Referral Clinics: Ethical Issues.A. Kitua, P. Folb, M. Warsame, F. Binka, A. Faiz, I. Ribeiro, T. Peto, J. Gyapong, E. B. Yunus, R. Rahman, F. Baiden, C. Clerk, Z. Mrango, C. Makasi, O. Kimbute, A. Hossain, R. Samad & M. Gomes - 2010 - Journal of Medical Ethics 36 (2):116-120.
Placebo-controlled trials are controversial when individuals might be denied existing beneficial medical interventions. In the case of malaria, most patients die in rural villages without healthcare facilities. An artesunate suppository that can be given by minimally skilled persons might be of value when patients suddenly become too ill for oral treatment but are several hours from a facility that can give injectable treatment for severe disease. In such situations, by default, no treatment is (or can be) given until the patient (...)

The Ohrid Agreement: The Travails of Inter-Ethnic Relations in Macedonia. [REVIEW]Armend Reka - 2008 - Human Rights Review 9 (1):55-69.
This article provides an overview of some of the key changes brought about by the groundbreaking Framework Agreement (known as the Ohrid Agreement) in Macedonia since its signing in 2001. A power-sharing arrangement, it saved Macedonia from the brink of civil war. This article describes how the Ohrid Agreement restored peace by addressing the constitutional status of minorities, their equitable representation in the public sector and issues connected with higher education in the 2002–2006 period. It further assesses the merits of (...)

Understanding Hohfeld and Formalizing Legal Rights: The Hohfeldian Conceptions and Their Conditional Consequences.Réka Markovich - 2020 - Studia Logica 108 (1):129-158.
Hohfeld’s analysis on the different types of rights and duties is highly influential in analytical legal theory, and it is considered as a fundamental theory in AI&Law and normative multi-agent systems. Yet a century later, the formalization of this theory remains, in various ways, unresolved. In this paper I provide a formal analysis of how the working of a system containing Hohfeldian rights and duties can be delineated. This formalization starts from using the same tools as the classical ones by (...)

    Anatomia.John Locke - 2016 - Studia Z Historii Filozofii 7 (1):39-49.
Tekst został napisany najprawdopodobniej w roku 1668. Podstawą przekładu są jego dwie edycje: Kennetha Dewhursta, zamieszczona przezeń w monografii Thomas Sydenham. His Life and Original Writings, University and California Press, Berkeley–Los Angeles 1966, s. 85–93 oraz bardziej szczegółowa transkrypcja dokonana przez Jonathana Craiga Walmsleya i zamieszczona w rozprawie doktorskiej John Locke’s Natural Philosophy, opublikowanej elektronicznie: https://core.ac.uk/download/files/99/74250.pdf.
