Discipline and Invention: the Fete in France: XV-XVIII Century.Roger Chartier & Maria Antonia Uzielli - 1980 - Diogenes 28 (110):44-65.
Any historical reflection of the fête (or feast) must depart from the observation of its actual conditions of subsistence, in order to understand the veritable “festive explosion” that has marked historical production this last decade. Although it is not specifically historical, the emergence of the fête (and in particular of the ancient feast) as a preferential object of study, leads one in effect to wonder about the reasons that have brought about that, in a given moment, an entire scientific class, (...)

On the edge of the cliff: history, language, and practices.Roger Chartier - 1997 - Baltimore: Johns Hopkins University Press.
The importance of history has been powerfully reaffirmed in recent years by the appearance of major new authors, pathbreaking works, and fresh interpretations of historical events, trends, and methods. Responding to these developments, Roger Chartier engages several of the most influential writers of cultural history whose works have spread far beyond academic audiences to become part of contemporary cultural argument. Challenging the assertion that history is no more than a "fiction-making operation" Chartier examines the relationships between history (...)

    Zgodovina danes: Dvomi, izzivi, predlogi.Roger Chartier - 1995 - Filozofski Vestnik 16 (1).

The structure of metaphor: the way the language of metaphor works.Roger M. White - 1996 - Cambridge: Blackwell.
This volume provides a philosophical introduction to and analysis of the study of metaphor. By proceeding from the concrete analysis of complex metaphors, White is able to identify a range of features which are incompatible with standard accounts of the way words function in metaphor.

  42. Can synaesthesia be cultivated?: Indications from surveys of meditators.Roger Walsh - 2005 - Journal of Consciousness Studies 12 (4-5):5-17.
Synaesthesia is considered a rare perceptual capacity, and one that is not capable of cultivation. However, meditators report the experience quite commonly, and in questionnaire surveys, respondents claimed to experience synaesthesia in 35% of meditation retreatants, in 63% of a group of regular meditators, and in 86% of advanced teachers. These rates were significantly higher than in nonmeditator controls, and displayed significant correlations with measures of amount of meditation experience. A review of ancient texts found reports suggestive of synaesthesia in (...)

What is philosophy of science? Numerous manuals, anthologies or essays provide carefully reconstructed vantage points on the discipline that have been gained through expert and piecemeal historical analyses. In this paper, we address the question from a complementary perspective: we target the content of one major journal of the field—Philosophy of Science—and apply unsupervised text-mining methods to its complete corpus, from its start in 1934 until 2015. By running topic-modeling algorithms over the full-text corpus, we identified 126 key research topics (...)

Social Class and State Power: Exploring an Alternative Radical Tradition.David M. Hart, Gary Chartier, Ross Miller Kenyon & Roderick T. Long - 2017 - Cham: Palgrave Macmillan.
This collection seeks to excavate the tradition of radical liberal class analysis, which predated and inspired Marx's reflections on class. Liberal class theory is distinctive because it regards relationship with the state as constitutive rather than just indicative of social class membership. Along with an introduction that frames the discussion historically and conceptually, Social Class and State Power provides readers with easy access to provocative texts from the early modern period to the present.
