The aim of this article is to reconstruct the theory of simple apprehension held in the Kiev-Mohyla Academy in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. We start from Aristotle’s idea of two kinds of knowing and from the Thomist theory of the two operations of the intellect in view of the ontological distinction between essence and actuality. In dealing with the theory of the activities of the intellect in the Kiev-MohylaAcademy, we consider simple apprehension as a form of Aristotle’s (...) immediate knowledge. The glorious Sophia image of Nikolai Mokrogo, now completely forgotten, was the oldest national shrine and one of the first miraculous icons of Kievan Rus known to us. The name of the icon is associated with the "Miracle of the Infant in Kiev", which dates from the researchers no later than 1090. The legend tells about the marriage, which went to the pilgrimage to the relics of Boris and Gleb in Vyshgorod. They returned to Kyiv by the Dnipro in (...) a boat. In the road, a tired woman was asleep and dropped into the water a baby, which immediately drowned. Parents of the child turned to despair in despair. Mykola "having a great faith in him", asking for help. Indeed, the next morning the child of a bud was found undisturbed on the outside of the chambers of Sophia of Kiev: "... the child is lying wet in front of the image of St. Nikolai "[Leonid, Archimandrite. Life and miracles of St. Nikolai Mirlykysky and praise him. Investigation of two monuments of ancient Russian writing of the XI century. - St. Petersburg, 1881. - P. 90.] The icon of the saint, under which was found miraculously saved sv. Nicholas is a child in wet diapers, nicknamed Nikolay Mokrogo. Modern scholars have opened up new complex aspects that require considerable attention from researchers from various scientific fields. So, after the discovery by Soviet archaeologists BO Timoshchuk and IP Rusanova in the 80-90 years of the XX century. in Western Ukraine, the great Eastern Slavic pagan temple complexes, ancient settlements, sanctuaries and holy sites became evident the fact that Eastern (...) Im Jahre 1850 hat der russische Archimandrit Porfirij Uspenskij von einer Reise nach dem Sinai unter anderem vier Ikonen mitgebracht, die zu den ältesten ihrer Gattung gehören. Es handelt sich um eine Ikone mit der Darstellung der Gottesmutter, eine mit Johannes dem Vorläufer, eine Tafel mit der Darstellung zweier Heiliger, die durch spätere Inschriften als Sergios und Bakchos bezeichnet werden, und schließlich um eine weitere Ikone mit den Brustbildern zweier Heiliger. Nach dem Tode Uspenskijs kamen die Tafeln mit der übrigen (...) Sammlung 1885 in das Kirchlich-archäologische Museum an der Geistlichen Akademie Kiev, später (1940) in das Staatliche Kiever Museum für westliche und östliche Kunst. Beschreibungen oder Listen der Ikonen hat Uspenskij nicht hinterlassen, und auch sein schriftlicher Nachlaß gab keine Auskünfte. Bereits 1886 hat Petrov einen Katalog erstellt, und auch schon die Ikonen zumeist in das 6./7. Jahrhundert datiert. Auf diesen Katalog ist er jedoch später nicht mehr zurückgekommen. J. Strzygowski sah die letztgenannte Ikone, als sie auf dem 7. archäologischen Kongreß in Moskau 1890 ausgestellt war, und er hat sich ausführlich mit ihr auseinandergesetzt. Freilich war der Publikation noch keine vollständige Photographie beigegeben. Dann sind die Sinai-Ikonen anscheinend in einem Museumsführer 1897 publiziert worden. Eine ausführliche Untersuchung widmete 1902 Ajnalov diesen Ikonen, 1912 folgte die Publikation durch Petrov im Inventarband des Museums, die sich an den betr. Stellen eng an Ajnalov anlehnt, ja dessen Text wörtlich übernimmt. (shrink)

IntroductionThis paper’s argument can be stated simply: first, the primary unacknowledged cause of modern warfare (that is, since the Great War of 1914–18) is neither “nationalism” nor “imperialism” (to name two popular bogeymen) but modern rationality itself, specifically the epistemological revolution embodied in the philosophy of the Prussian philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724–1804); second, the current Ukraine War is a case in point, one that interacts with contemporary transformations in Western culture (especially the abolishment of a sense of the objective reality (...) and meaning of male and female sexual differentiation) in ways that reveal the current Russia–Ukraine War as reprising—if it does not merely continue—the ideational conflict at the heart of the Great War, a conflict that emerges for the reasons set forth as the Ur-Krieg, or “source war,” of the historical era we inhabit. In making this argument, this paper will take its inspiration from the writings of the little-known Russian philosopher Vladimir Ern (1882–1917), and for this reason, we begin in a public lecture hall in Moscow in 1914. The relocation of two Metropolitan Metropolitan Kirill II and Maxim to the North, to Vladimir above Klyazma, put the Galicia-Volyn state and the Ukrainian Church in a difficult position. While Kiev remained the actual Metropolitan Chair, the latter could stay in the northern Russian cities for a long time, without causing much anxiety or dissatisfaction in the South. However, with the relocation of Metropolitan Maxim to permanent residence in the capital of the North-Russian Grand Duke, the rulers of the (...) southwestern region of Russia realized that in this way they were losing significant spiritual and political power, which henceforth gave the North the advantage of the All-Russian genius. With Ukraine gaining independence and its emergence as an independent democratic state, the interest of the scientific community in the Kyiv monuments of the great princely period increases, when Christianity, having come to our lands, has become an important factor in state-building.

The inclusion of Eastern Slavs in the sphere of religious and cultural influences of Byzantium was a tremendous event both in national and in world history. Since then, the main center of the culture of Kievan Rus, incorporating a complex of ideas and functions of the spiritual, public and private life of ancient Russian society, became the Eastern Christian temple in its local version.

For Byzantium, the XIV century was the time of its last elevation in culture, which was called "Paleologic Renaissance." His main content was "hesychast disputes", which lasted for thirty years and took frequent political forms. The main subjects of this discussion were, on the one hand, the Calabrian monk Barlaam, who came from Italy, where he received Latin education, and on the other hand, the Thessalonian Metropolitan Gregory Palam, who spoke on behalf of the Athos monks. The followers of Palami (...) received the name "Palamit". Varlaam and Palama were representatives of two opposite directions in Byzantine culture of the XIV century. - "anti-knitting" and monastic-church. (shrink)

Review of the book Nemchinov, I. (2019). Malinin / Malinin: Reconstruction of the "lost biography" of Kiev professor. Vinnitsa: FOP Baranovskaya TP.

The aim of this paper is to present the views of one of prominent Polish chemists, namely Bohdan Szyszkowski. Presented views are concerning the relation of the concepts of aether, continuity and causality in the context of revolution in physics that took place at the turn of 19th and 20th centuries. The issues particularly concern his thoughts related to the old quantum theory and special relativity. In particular, this article presents the role of these concepts in the foundations of physics (...) and – in a more general aspect – in the recognized fields of knowledge. The nature of Szyszkowski’s analysis allows him to be considered a very interesting thinker in the area that today is called the philosophy of physics or, perhaps more accurately, the philosophy _in_ science. An important observation made by Szyszkowski is emphasized that mathematical structures cannot have physical properties. Attention was also paid to the Polish intellectual community, which was formed in Kiev before 1919. (shrink)

The basis of Kiev Christian theological method is Sophian tradition in European philosophical and religious art. Sophian tradition was elaborated in the pre-Christian period. It reflected in the works of prominent Christian theoreticians and Old Slavic and ancient teachers of Christianity.

The article discusses the relationship between a government and a protest movement, and takes as its chief example the protest movement of Kiev's Maidan. Analyzing the affective logic of community, which is manifested in a crowd, the author argues that this logic is a necessary component of democracy. The argument implies that what are commonly considered democratic values, such as “freedom” and “justice,” are not values, but the effects of the process of resisting any government, the political manifestation of (...) which was described as far back as Hobbes in his description of the state. Having derived the political from these ethical affects, one can produce a nonpolitical definition of democracy in which “freedom,” “justice,” and “dignity” cease to be tools of political rhetoric, pointing to those community relations that cast doubt on the prevailing understanding of the state and politics. A Ukrainian historian of Canadian origin, Yuriy Tys-Krokhmalyuk, highlighting the pages of the early missionary history of the Irish monasticism, states that about 600 g. They from the territory of Western Europe went further to the East, reaching the land of the Antes and Kiev. In this regard, the researcher expresses the following opinion: "It is not known whether the Irish monks were the first on our land. Apparently not, because they were not the first either in Burgundy, nor (...) in France, nor in Switzerland. It was at that time that the Roman cultural center grew up, and between these two centers - the Gellensky and the Roman - there was a misunderstanding in the competition for influence. Irish monks, coming to our lands, apparently intended to spread the Gaelic spirit in theology and science. Times have changed: there were those when the Gellian culture developed freely, but there were also those that were in the spread of difficulties and obstacles. Under such a name in Kiev on April 22-23, 1996, a colloquium on problems of Eastern religiosity was held on the basis of the Department of Religious Studies and with the assistance of the UAR. It was attended by academics from academic institutions to research centers, university lecturers and high school students, students, postgraduate students, representatives of eastern religious communities, informational agencies and public organizations. Visitors to the colloquium came from India, Donetsk, Lutsk.

The article deals with the study of specific aspects of daily life of management and ordinary workers of the Ukrainian police at the mid 1920's based on the much-discussed in the press "Kievcase". This case was about systematic bribery in Ukrainian police (in modern language - about corruption). In this way we have detected the conditions, causes and mechanisms of the corruption that matter for the modern study of this phenomenon.

I think I would not err in saying that Dvoretskii's chronicle of our times, The Man from Outside, is stimulating unusual interest on the part of theater companies and audiences. It has been produced on two Moscow stages, something that is quite rare. It is playing in Leningrad, Kiev, Vilnius, Arkhangelsk, Barnaul, Vladivostok, Volgograd, Kuibyshev, Murmansk, Novokuznetsk, Petrozavodsk, Pskov, Sverdlovsk, Simferopol, Stavropol, and other cities. Judging by the reviews, the play and its productions are successful everywhere. The article is devoted to the clandestine congress for the preparation of the All-Russian Congress of Muslim Students, organized in Kiev in 1913. Based on the archive sources of gendarme administration of Kiev Governorate and memoirs of the participants of the events, the process of preparing the organizational congress, its goals and tasks were examined. The role of reformist ideas among the organizers of the clandestine congress and their inclusion into the general imperial Muslim context was shown. The (...) process of politicization of the Kiev Congress under the influence of revolutionary-minded participants representing the Muslim Tartars of the Volga and the Urals was studied. It was shown that the socially active Muslim students of that time included both revolutionary circles and representatives of intellectual and political elites of the Muslim community of the Russian Empire who were seeking for opportunities to improve the situation of the Muslims of the Empire. The probable causes of the weak reaction of the security services of the Russian Empire to this congress were analyzed. Among them are: a) the intervention of representatives of the Muslim elite of the Russian Empire, b) the marginal nature of the "Muslim issue" for the Kiev gendarmerie. The special role of the deputy of the Forth Duma, the representative of the Muslim faction of Ibnamin Akhtyamov in the settlement of the problem of the Muslim students' arrest was noted. It is concluded that the congress in question was a manifestation of unifying tendencies among the Muslim students, which took place on the eve of the First World War. (shrink)

Vladimir Soloviev et Jacques Maritain sont des philosophes pour aujourd'hui et pour demain. Ils ont laissé des œuvres considérables par leur originalité, leur profondeur et la qualité de leur style. Célèbres, puis un peu oubliés, ces deux talentueux penseurs ont cherché la vérité. Ni Soloviev ni Maritain n'ont eu d'ailleurs des carrières académiques classiques, et la liberté que donne une vie dispensée d'obligations administratives a probablement favorisé leur remarquable créativité. L'un et l'autre ont aimé non seulement le Christ, mais aussi (...) son Eglise tout en ayant des appartenances confessionnelles différentes. "L'ouvrage que l'on présente ici est le fruit de deux colloques tenus successivement à Moscou et à Kiev en 2006. Il s'agissait de faire mieux connaître Soloviev en Occident et Maritain en Russie ou en Ukraine. C'est une manière de dialogue entre deux inspirations que l'on pourrait rattacher à Platon dans le cas de Soloviev et à Aristote avec Maritain, mais aussi et surtout à un personnalisme chrétien qui les caractérise.". Considering the period of the fund's activities, namely the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 20th century, one should pay attention to the state of education of Bukovina before the foundation, in particular, in the pre-Austrian period. The situation with education here was not the best, but on the contrary - she was in an abandoned state. At that time the church was engaged in school, and therefore the focus was on religious education. The first schools in (...) the country were founded at the Putna monastery and in the region of Suceava and Radovtsy. If the boyars wanted to give their sons a higher education, they were forced to send them to Ukrainian schools in Lviv or Kiev, and whether in the capital of Western European countries - Vienna or Paris. It follows that the majority of the population, which remained outside the spiritual state or origin not from the boyars, remained illiterate, but in decades and was completely ignorant. This situation with education in the region was until the annexation of Bukovina by the Austrian Empire in 1774. (shrink)

At the 85th year on June 23, the national philosopher, religious scholar-atheist Yevgraf Kalenikovich Duluman, died in the famous scientific and theological circles. He was born on January 6, 1928 in the village of Velyka Bokova Lyubashevsky district of the Odessa region. He recognized the poverty of the Holodomor of 1932-1933, the insults of the years of occupation, half-life. The placement of a priest affected the young man's share: after graduating from school, he went to the Odessa theological seminary. In the article the author tries to analyze the vision of the path of spiritual formation in the philosophical and religious views of the Ukrainian Middle Ages and the early modernism representatives in the context of the doctrine of theosis. It is noted that the doctrine of deification is considered fundamental to the theology of holiness. Theosis, the idea of which is to renew the image and the likeness of God in a person, is the main goal of life from (...) the standpoint of the Eastern Church. After all, the combination of the Divine and human natures opens the way to God for a person. As a state of subjective experience of a human person, theosis is considered in hesychasm, which interprets it as synergy - an interacting combination of energies of man and God. The path to the development of knowledge about God is connected with the ascetic rejection from the worldly life, and the path to the union with Him is connected with the union of the Divine and human natures in a person. Followers of hesychasm believe that theosis is the practice of the subjective experience of a human person; synergy is the interacting combination of the energy of man and God. The main task of austerity is the attainment of divine grace. It dissolves the will of man in the process of a human being transformation. The doctrine of theosis had an impact on the formation of the theocratic idea in the culture of Kiev Rus, in which love of wisdom played an important role in human understanding themselves as the image of God. Analyzing the views of the Ukrainian Middle Ages and early modernism representatives on the path of spiritual development of man, the author concludes that they were characterized by the vision of deification as a person’s approach to God through self-exploration and moral improvement. Theosis is the final result on the path of spiritual growth for the representatives of the Middle Ages and early modernism philosophical conception, who attached great importance to gaining inner mystical experience and sought to experience spiritual ecstasy as the ultimate goal in the mystical path to deification.
