Die Frage nach Sinn ist eine bleibend existentielle Frage des Menschen. Sie wird dringend aktuell in einer Zeit zunehmender Säkularisierung und Multioptionalität. Eine Theologie, die die Gesellschft prägen will, muss hierzu eine Antwort aus der Mitte des christlichen Glaubens geben können. Stefan Laurs stellt sich dieser Herausforderung. In Auseinandersetzung mit Charles Taylor und Walter Kasper analysiert er den neuzeitlichen Säkularisierungsprozess und widmet sich insbesondere der damit verbundenen Frage des Menschen nach Sinn und Erfüllung. Si, comme la précédente, elle préconise trois séances annuelles, elle innove avec une articulation entre trois champs de compétences : biologique, psycho-émotionnel et juridico-social. This article proposes to retrace the path of trust that Paul Ricœur has drawn across his works. If the concept of trust is never themed as such, nevertheless it unfolds in subtle ways in fields as diverse as ethics, morality, politics, and religion. We will argue that trust is a solid but fragile foundation for Ricœur’s recognition theory. Rooted in man’s structural disproportion, trust is a perpetual tension between the finitude of existence and the infinitude of mutual recognition, between the (...) ability and fallibility of the human being -it is thus a continuous search, always disappointing but always renewed, of a mediation between the self and the other, the hope of happiness and the reality of evil. The analysis of various forms of trust, including interpersonal and institutional forms, will then be coupled with a study of trust in practical terms, based on Ricœur’s approach to healthcare relationships, or the perception of foreigners. This paper addresses the problem of sound individuation (SI) and its connection to sound ontology (SO). It is argued that the problems of SI, such as aspatiality, extreme individuation, indexical perplexity and duration puzzles are due to SO’s uncertainties. Besides, I describe the views in SO, including the wave view (WV), the property view (PV), and the event view (EV), as Casey O’Callaghan defends it. According to O’Callaghan, EV offers clear standards to individuate sounds. However, this claim is countered by (...) the consideration that any view could also defend the standards in SO, and thus, EV does not solve any of the problems mentioned above. As a way of showing the difficulties inherited by sound’s inner ontology, the problem of its linguistic representation is also addressed. The problem of SI can be developed within the frame of the philosophy of language and, specifically, regarding the discussion about mass vs count-­sortal terms. Is the term sound a mass or a count­-sortal? It is shown that, for reasons pertaining SO, the decision regarding the case of sound as a mass or count-­sortal term remains open. SI is, thus, covered from the SO to the philosophy of language. (shrink)

We present nine facets for the analysis of the past and future evolution of AI. Each facet has also a set of edges that can summarise different trends and contours in AI. With them, we first conduct a quantitative analysis using the information from two decades of AAAI/IJCAI conferences and around 50 years of documents from AI topics, an official database from the AAAI, illustrated by several plots. We then perform a qualitative analysis using the facets and edges, locating AI (...) systems in the intelligence landscape and the discipline as a whole. This analytical framework provides a more structured and systematic way of looking at the shape and boundaries of AI. (shrink)

This article investigates account episodes in Italian family dinner conversations and illustrates how sequential patterns and participation are organized in terms of preferences indexical of moral ideology and moral order. Accounts have been mostly examined as speech acts abstracted from embedding sequential environment; this article shows that different design features of the priming move in account episodes retrospectively define different aspects of a situation as problematic and prospectively activate the relevance for distinctive remedial moves. On an ideological level, narrative elicitations (...) as priming moves and accounts as remedial moves index a moral perspective that promotes moral reasoning and thus the negotiation of norms. In addition, such moves realize a practice of morality that tends to be inquisitory vs condemnatory, offering the benefit of the doubt prior to guilt allocation. In conclusion, the discursive mechanics of accountability constitutes a medium for reproduction of, and innovation in, the moral order. (shrink)

Extracting the regularities of our environment is one of our core cognitive abilities. To study the fine-grained dynamics of the extraction of embedded regularities, a method combining the advantages of the artificial language paradigm and the serial response time task was used with a group of Guinea baboons in a new automatic experimental device. After a series of random trials, monkeys were exposed to language-like patterns. We found that the extraction of embedded patterns positioned at the end of larger patterns (...) was faster than the extraction of initial embedded patterns. This result suggests that there is a learning advantage for the final element of a sequence that benefits from the contextual information provided by previous elements. (shrink)

De la identidad literaria salvadoreña como exilio, se examina la obra clásica de nueve autores. Al aplicar una perspectiva psicoanalítica, el ensayo toma como punto de partida una tarjeta que Roque Dalton envió desde Cuba a una amante lejana en El Salvador. La escritura establece la deuda y la memoria como principios rectores para recuperar el pasado. Un compromiso subjetivo con el objeto del amor perdido la patria y la amante dicta el movimiento de la inscripción poética. Esta ausencia del (...) cuerpo a recuperar se aplica en seguida, en primer lugar, a Francisco Gavidia, que funda el indigenismo salvadoreño, utilizando técnicas literarias europeas, con lo cual ignora las lenguas indígenas, luego a Alberto Masferrer, que se retrata sufriendo las tribulaciones y la pasión de Cristo en el exilio, antes de construir un proyecto político de país. En tercer lugar, Arturo Ambrogi percibe en el campesino salvadoreño al poeta medieval localizado en un locus amoenus, encantado por la belleza del campo. Francisco Miranda Ruano inaugura una visión más trágica, ya que su salida de la ciudad para recrear el esplendor del campo concluye con su regreso a los suburbios pobres, antes de suicidarse. En quinto lugar, Salarrué mezcla fantasía y realismo para retratar sus diversas máscaras o personajes, así como para disimular la violencia sexual y racial. Según el proverbio español “el hábito hace al monje”, el ser y los actos se juzgan siempre por la apariencia. Claudia Lars prescribe un movimiento dual, primero para sustituir su nombre real, Carmen Brannon, por su seudónimo literario, y luego para recuperar su infancia de sus habilidades adultas, que ella desarrolla, gracias al legado poético de su padre extranjero. Los hermanos Alfred y Miguel Ángel Espino proponen un patrimonio complejo. Si el primero idealiza el campo en una recuperación nostálgica del vientre materno cuya contrapartida nombra al amante imposible que lo inclina al suicidio, el segundo apunta a restituir una educación verdaderamente americana, sin revitalización alguna de las lenguas indígenas ni de su tierra ancestral confiscada. José Napoleón Rodríguez Ruiz estipula cómo solo un recuerdo lejano recupera un relato testimonial del pasado. Al vaticinar un tema de actualidad -el acoso sexual y la migración, su personaje campesino narra cómo el exilio reinventa su identidad rural. Finalmente, en un retorno sinodal, desde lejos, Dalton replica la nostalgia de Rubén Darío por ser alguien más de lo que es a la hora de recrear sus años de formación como poeta. En resumen, este bosquejo de nueve autores del siglo XX delinea no solo cómo una idea de exilio anticipa la diáspora actual. El ensayo también sugiere cómo los estudios culturales continúan una nostálgica recuperación de la memoria por una revolución sinódica, y reclama la actualidad de aquellos autores consagrados en un canon literario monolingüe. What does it mean, in concrete terms, to recognise and highlight experiential knowledge in the context of recovery-oriented psychiatric services? Based on a study of the tasks entrusted to the “médiateurs de santé pairs”, and using John Dewey's pragmatist theory of inquiry, I will examine the conditions under which it is possible to institutionalise patient knowledge, as well as the limits of this institutionalisation. Rather than thinking of this institutionalisation in terms of information-gathering, Dewey allows us to think of it (...) as a way of debating the interpretative frameworks and evaluation criteria for recovery. Henri Bergson, Vladimir Jankélévitch, Emmanuel Levinas ont en commun d'avoir marqué la philosophie européenne du XXe siècle. En plus de leurs oeuvres respectives, ils ont tous les trois entretenu des liens manifestes à la fois dans leurs textes et dans leurs biographies. De ce trio, on ne peut pas dire que Bergson, philosophe pourtant déjà installé dans le paysage intellectuel français, prenne la place privilégiée du maître. Ni Jankélévitch, ni Levinas n'ont été, à proprement parler, ses élèves, cependant une relation (...) étroite s'est instaurée entre eux, marquée non pas par une posture de déférence, mais par des préoccupations conceptuelles partagées ainsi qu'un travail engagé sur des questions communes. Les pensées de Jankélévitch et Levinas sont liées par un même franc retrait vis-à-vis de la majorité des courants philosophiques dominants à leur époque, notamment la vogue existentialiste. N'adhérant pas à cette tendance, Jankélévitch et Levinas se tournent vers Bergson pour saisir l'inactualité des questions posées par sa pensée ; plutôt que la restitution de ses thèses, leurs interactions reposent sur un véritable dialogue dans lequel chacun apporte une variation nouvelle. Ces trois philosophes seront finalement réunis par le partage de questions fondamentales, qui résistent à la compréhension et qui s'ouvrent au souci de l'expérience proprement humaine : métaphysique, morale, temps. Bergson, Jankélévitch et Levinas, trois philosophes français marqués par une même inquiétude face à la dégradation de l'humain ; trois moments qui forment une ligne de pensée discrète mais irradiant la philosophie contemporaine, révélée après-coup par les suites qu'elle a autorisées. What place should be given to ruins in the phenomenology of memory sketched by Ricœur in Memory, History, Forgetting? The contemplation of ruins raises the same problem as that which occupies the whole of Ricœur’s work: the representation of the past and the relations of memory and imagination in the formation of recollection. Can ruins give rise to a rearrangement of the relations of memory and imagination and produce an “imagining remembering”?

The ABO histo‐blood group, first discovered over a century ago, is found not only in humans but also in many other primate species, with the same genetic variants maintained for at least 20 million years. Polymorphisms in ABO have been associated with susceptibility to a large number of human diseases, from gastric cancers to immune or artery diseases, but the adaptive phenotypes to which the polymorphism contributes remain unclear. We suggest that variation in ABO has been maintained by frequency‐dependent or (...) fluctuating selection pressures, potentially arising from co‐evolution with gut pathogens. We further hypothesize that the histo‐blood group labels A, B, AB, and O do not offer a full description of variants maintained by natural selection, implying that there are unrecognized, functionally important, antigens beyond the ABO group in humans and other primates. This paper proposes a five-part empirical typology of interconnections of race and class. We describe the mechanisms whereby (1) race is a form of class relation; (2) race relations and class relations reciprocally affect each other; (3) race acts as a sorting mechanism into class locations; (4) race acts as a mediating linkage to class locations; and (5) race interacts with class in determining other outcomes. Rather than insisting on one or another mechanism as the overarching framework for conceptualising the (...) interconnections between race and class, we propose a theoretical integration of all five within a functionalist model. The model reconciles the empirical effects of race variables with a class-functionalist explanation of race. Our typology of interconnections is useful for situating concrete empirical phenomena, and our theoretical integration of those interconnections offers a coherent explanatory system that captures the recursive causality of race and class. La présente étude propose de faire le point, à travers une sélection d’occurrences extraites d’un document commun, sur la manière dont la classe des pronoms est décrite dans une perspective cognitive. Il s’agit notamment de comprendre comment le traitement des pronoms s’insère dans une modélisation plus large du langage, et à l’inverse, comment celle-ci influence les perspectives sur la classe. Plus spécifiquement, hormis certaines modélisations de l’accès à la référence, c’est la Grammaire Cognitive de Langacker qui est considérée ici. Après (...) une définition du terme même de perspective « cognitive », l’étude met en avant les caractéristiques partagées des pronoms dans ce modèle. Elle propose ensuite un panorama des différentes sous-classes de pronoms. Elle fait apparaître notamment la centralité du pronom personnel et du démonstratif ; le rejet du principe de réagencement au profit de constructions ; le rejet du principe de pronoms « vides de sens » ; enfin, une extension de la notion d’impersonnel à we ou they. Le concept de « clivée en there », emprunté à Davidse et Reeve plutôt qu’à la Grammaire Cognitive, est également proposé. (shrink)

Research on grammatical gender processing has generally assumed that grammatical gender can be treated as a uniform construct, resulting in a body of literature in which different gender classes are collapsed into single analyses. The present work reviews linguistic, psycholinguistic, and neurolinguistic research on grammatical gender from different methodologies and across different profiles of Spanish speakers. Specifically, we examine distributional asymmetries between masculine and feminine grammatical gender, the resulting biases in gender assignment, and the consequences of these assignment strategies on (...) gender expectancy and processing. We discuss the implications of the findings for the design of future gender processing studies and, more broadly, for our understanding of the potential differences in the processing reflexes of grammatical gender classes within and across languages. La normativa sobre agricultura orgánica de los principales mercados está diseñada conforme al entendimiento de que la distancia entre el productor y el consumidor de alimentos orgánicos es considerable, lo cual no tiene que ser necesariamente cierto. En consecuencia se han desarrollado iniciativas orientadas a la utilización de canales comerciales cortos para la producción orgánica, basados asimismo en la participación de los agentes que los integran en los procesos de certificación. Dentro de este contexto destacan los Sistemas Participativos de Garantía (...) como modelos de certificación participativa en red, los cuales buscan potenciar la generación de confianza y el aprendizaje mutuo. El presente artículo tiene como objetivo describir los principios en los cuales se fundamentan, así como el funcionamiento, de los Sistemas Participativos de Garantía acorde con una estrategia de fomento de la participación comunitaria, la agricultura tradicional y el desarrollo rural endógeno. Cet article étudie les éditions du Noticiero ICAIC Latinoamericano (NIL), les actualités cinématographiques de la Révolution cubaine, qui reflètent la participation des femmes à la politique internationale de Cuba pendant la guerre froide. Un acteur institutionnel féminin se dégage tout particulièrement : la Fédération des femmes cubaines, dont on suit les voyages des dirigeantes dans les pays du bloc de l’Est. Ce rapprochement avec le « camp socialiste » est aussi sensible dans les éditions traitant de la mode ou du (...) sport féminin soviétiques, présentés comme des modèles à suivre. Les femmes sont également encouragées à défendre la Révolution, contre la menace que représentent les États-Unis, en s’engageant dans des milices féminines, suivant en ce sens l’exemple des combattantes vietnamiennes ou de l’agente est-allemande Tamara Bunke, alias « Tania », dont le NIL fait l’éloge. Is there a link between how a firm manages its internal and external stakeholders? More specifically, are firms that give employees stock ownership and more say in running the enterprise more likely to engage with external stakeholders? This study seeks to answer these questions by elaborating on mechanisms that link employees to external stakeholders, such as the community, suppliers, and the environment. It tests these relationships using a sample of 347 private, mostly small-to-medium size firms, which completed a stakeholder impact (...) assessment organized by the non-profit B Lab. The results support the hypotheses that both employee ownership and employee involvement are positively associated with external stakeholder engagement. Further, we found that certification plays a role, as employee ownership contributes to external stakeholder engagement only in certified B Corporations, and not in firms that merely completed the B Lab Impact assessment. Our findings have import for stakeholder engagement frameworks, as we show that there is interplay between internal employee stakeholders and external stakeholders that may be important to overall firm–stakeholder management. L'auteure a choisi de nous raconter cette destinée à rebours en commençant par la mort de la philosophe en 1943 à Londres. Contient une vingtaine de photographies en partie inédites.

La problématique de la séparation est inhérente aux violences conjugales. Le couple se fonde sur le fantasme : être tout pour l’autre et que l’autre soit tout pour soi ou tout à soi. Le choix du conjoint est massivement narcissique et s’associe à des angoisses d’effondrement du Moi. L’hypothèse présentée dans l’article est que l’objet premier fut probablement insuffisamment sécurisant et constitué pour que le sujet puisse s’en séparer sans crainte d’un effondrement psychique. Cette fragilité expliquerait l’absence d’intériorisation de l’objet (...) absent et donc un défaut de symbolisation. Dans ce contexte, l’emprise serait une tentative de négociation et d’apaisement des angoisses de perte de l’objet premier. Ainsi, les difficultés liées à la séparation dans le couple s’articuleraient à l’angoisse de perte d’objet. (shrink)

Intentionalism is the view that perceptual phenomenology depends on perceptual content. The aim of this paper is to make explicit an ambiguity in usual formulations of intentionalism, and to argue in favor of one way to disambiguate it. It concerns whether perceptual phenomenology depends on the content of one and only one representation (often construed as being identical to a certain perceptual experience), or instead depends on a collection of many different representations throughout the perceptual system. We argue in favor (...) of the latter option. Intentionalism so conceived can make better sense of contemporary neuroscience of perception, and is better equipped to confront several influential objections to traditional intentionalism. L’extension de la négociation collective pendant la première moitié du xxe siècle accompagne la généralisation des grilles de salaires suivant la qualification du travail. Ces dernières représentent un acquis ambigu pour les ouvrières. L’élaboration des grilles rend visible la variété et la qualification des tâches exécutées par les femmes. Elle coïncide avec une politique de revalorisation salariale qui permet de réduire l’écart avec les salaires masculins. Mais elle entérine également les frontières sexuelles de la division du travail. L’examen des négociations (...) entreprises laisse voir le jeu complexe des stratégies déployées par les acteurs impliqués dans la définition et l’évaluation de la qualification. It is patently clear that theoretical difficulties in the understanding of human freedom exist, the roots of which can be found in classic psychological proposals. The western crisis may require reconsideration of freedom and responsibility as expressed in each person. One such proposal of this type begs clarification of the approaches that led to the loss of freedom in the existential horizon and thus of social dynamics. The purpose of this paper is to explain its roots in the psychoanalytic context. (...) Specifically there seems to be three theses that give way to this analysis: the role of the past in shaping the personality; the influence of the psychological workings as related to the handling of conflict as well as the understanding of psychoanalysis as hermeneutics. The three are united in the consideration of freedom as “liberation”, and the temporal dynamics implicit in this concept. We conclude that this is the origin of the limitation of the concept of freedom within psychoanalysis. (shrink)
