    A tomographic approach to Wigner's function.J. Bertrand & P. Bertrand - 1987 - Foundations of Physics 17 (4):397-405.
We propose a new derivation of Wigner's function based on the property of positivity of its integrals along straight lines in phase space. Identifying the values of these marginalizations with densities pertaining to invariant observables, we are able to reconstruct Wigner's pseudo-distribution from its slices.

Research focusing on the relationship between measures of Corporate Social Responsibility and company financial performance has led to mixed results in the North American context. In addition, the ethical attitudes and approaches toward CSR investments of both companies and rating agencies are not necessarily the same in Europe and the United States. In this study, we use CSR ratings issued by a major European CSR ratings agency to examine in a bi-directional manner the relationships between CSR ratings and financial performance (...)

    Time As Power and Intentionality.Bertrand P. Helm - 1981 - Idealistic Studies 11 (3):230-241.
The purpose of the following discussion is to examine the account of time’s nature and time’s ways that was worked out by Plotinus. For the most part, his philosophy of time is given in treatise iii.7 of the Enneads, entitled “Time and Eternity.” His account of time will be related to the major emphases of his metaphysics and to important views on temporality that were developed by some of his predecessors.

    The Nature and Modes of Time.Bertrand P. Helm - 1980 - The Monist 63 (3):375-385.
One of the topics that appears regularly in even the most casual inventories of philosophical problems is the problem of time. Time is such a pervasive, resilient feature of experience that it cannot be ignored. But time is also so vague that almost any analysis or tracking procedure we use to enhance and purify its signals overrides or baffles those signals. We begin a study of the phenomena of temporality and find that our attention is displaced from the temporal continuum (...)

Now in a third edition, Introduction to Philosophy: Classical and Contemporary Readings is a highly acclaimed, topically organized collection that covers five major areas of philosophy--theory of knowledge, philosophy of religion, philosophy of mind, freedom and determinism, and moral philosophy. Editor Louis P. Pojman enhances the text's topical organization by arranging the selections into a pro/con format to help students better understand opposing arguments. He also includes accessible introductions to each chapter, subsection, and individual reading, a unique feature for an (...)

The article on my theory of descriptions by Mr. Lejewski raises two points. One is as to the copula. I do not quite understand why it is thought that an ambiguity in the meaning of the word “is” is relevant in regard to my theory of descriptions. There are many problems in regard to which it is relevant. I have mentioned one of these in criticizing Hegel in Our Knowledge of the External World on p. 39 n of the original (...)

    Logico-Linguistic Papers.P. F. Strawson - 1971 - Burlington, VT: Routledge.
P.F. Strawson has been a major and influential spokesman for ordinary language philosophy throughout the late twentieth century, studying the relationship between common language and the language of formal logic. This reissue of his collection of early essays, Logico-Linguistic Papers, is published with a brand new introduction by Professor Strawson but, apart from minor corrections to the text, these classic essays remain original and intact. Logico-Linguistic Papers contains Strawson's major essay, 'On Referring', in which he disputed Bertrand Russell's theory (...)

    Fixing Frege.John P. Burgess - 2005 - Princeton University Press.
The great logician Gottlob Frege attempted to provide a purely logical foundation for mathematics. His system collapsed when Bertrand Russell discovered a contradiction in it. Thereafter, mathematicians and logicians, beginning with Russell himself, turned in other directions to look for a framework for modern abstract mathematics. Over the past couple of decades, however, logicians and philosophers have discovered that much more is salvageable from the rubble of Frege's system than had previously been assumed. A variety of repaired systems have (...)

An important suggestion of objective Bayesians is that the maximum entropy principle can replace a principle which is known to get into paradoxical difficulties: the principle of indifference. No one has previously determined whether the maximum entropy principle is better able to solve Bertrand’s chord paradox than the principle of indifference. In this paper I show that it is not. Additionally, the course of the analysis brings to light a new paradox, a revenge paradox of the chords, that is (...)

Bertrand competition with asymmetric costs: a solution in pure strategies.Thomas Demuynck, P. Jean-Jacques Herings, Riccardo D. Saulle & Christian Seel - 2019 - Theory and Decision 87 (2):147-154.
We consider a Bertrand duopoly with homogeneous goods and we allow for asymmetric marginal costs. We derive the Myopic Stable Set in pure strategies as introduced by Demuynck et al.. In contrast to the set of Nash equilibria, the unique Myopic Stable Set can be easily characterized in closed form and it provides an intuitive set-valued prediction.

In his book, The Principles of Mathematics , the young Bertrand Russell abandoned the common-sense notion that the whole must be greater than its part, and argued that wholes and their parts can be similar, e.g. where both are infinite series, the one being a sub-series of the other. He also rejected the popular view that the idea of an infinite number is self-contradictory, and that an infinite set or collection is an impossibility. In this paper, I intend to (...)
