The use of the social sciences in the interpretation of the New Testament emerged from the 1970s and has become a standard methodology for interpreting the New Testament. However, it has not been significantly used in the interpretation of the New Testament in Nigeria by biblical scholars. This article discusses what social-scientific criticism is and the need for its application in the interpretation of the New Testament by Nigerian New Testament scholars for a better understanding of the New Testament and (...) the people, beliefs and teachings it presents and contextualisation in the face of changing contexts of Christianity in Nigeria. Contribution: As far as we know, this article is the first one written on using social-scientific criticism to interpret the New Testament in the Nigerian context. It therefore contributes to the need for a multidisciplinary approach to interpreting the New Testament in Nigeria in particular and Africa in general. Conflicts are commonplace in human relationships. The Bible is replete with narratives and proverbial statements which border on conflict scenarios and conflict resolution strategies. Conflict cannot be severed from relationships between biological brothers and sisters, Christians, friends, colleagues and husbands and wives. In this qualitative study, the researchers examined the menace 'conflict between husbands and wives'. There is no husband and wife relationship which is devoid of disputes and conflicts. In husband and wife relationship, conflict situations could arise from lack (...) of sexual discipline, lack of sexual satisfaction, finance, lack of communication and other areas. The thrust of this article was to examine conflict resolution principles in the light of biblical proverbs. Biblical proverbs refer to concise and wise sayings in the Bible, which give pieces of advice about everyday life. This article utilised the descriptive research methodology to analyse the primary and secondary data. The major finding of this work are numerous biblical proverbs which are veritable means for resolving conflicts between husbands and wives. CONTRIBUTION: The article brought to fore the major factors which lead to conflict between husbands and wives. The authors exegetically studied the chosen proverbs in order to ascertain its relevance to conflict situations. The major contribution of this article is that the messages of certain proverbs in the Book of Proverbs are very useful in resolving conflicts between husbands and wives. (shrink)

© 2016 Elsevier LtdJumping spiders are famous for their visually driven behaviors [1]. Here, however, we present behavioral and neurophysiological evidence that these animals also perceive and respond to airborne acoustic stimuli, even when the distance between the animal and the sound source is relatively large and with stimulus amplitudes at the position of the spider of ∼65 dB sound pressure level. Behavioral experiments with the jumping spider Phidippus audax reveal that these animals respond to low-frequency sounds by freezing—a common (...) anti-predatory behavior characteristic of an acoustic startle response. Neurophysiological recordings from auditory-sensitive neural units in the brains of these jumping spiders showed responses to low-frequency tones —recordings that also represent the first record of acoustically responsive neural units in the jumping spider brain. Responses persisted even when the distances between spider and stimulus source exceeded 3 m and under anechoic conditions. Thus, these spiders appear able to detect airborne sound at distances in the acoustic far-field region, beyond the near-field range often thought to bound acoustic perception in arthropods that lack tympanic ears [2]. Furthermore, direct mechanical stimulation of hairs on the patella of the foreleg was sufficient to generate responses in neural units that also responded to airborne acoustic stimuli—evidence that these hairs likely play a role in the detection of acoustic cues. We suggest that these auditory responses enable the detection of predators and facilitate an acoustic startle response. Video. (shrink)

Significant research attention has been devoted to understanding the ethical behavior of leaders (i.e., the moral person) and how leaders’ expectations influence their followers’ ethical behavior (...

Ethical leadership encompasses the personal conduct of the leader and the leader’s expectations that followers behave ethically. Building on social learning and social exchange theory, we propose that ethical leadership interacts with coworker ethicality to predict personnel’s ethical intentions and organizational citizenship behavior. Using data collected from a large organizational sample, we use moderated regression analysis to test the main and interactive effects of ethical leadership and coworker ethicality on ethical intentions and OCB as it relates to conscientiousness, civic virtue, (...) and altruism. Study 1 examines how ethical leadership and coworker ethicality interact to predict ethical intentions using a sample of 1,551 military personnel. Study 2 extends the results of Study 1 by examining how ethical leadership and coworker ethicality interact to predict OCB using a combined sample of 3,363 military and civilian personnel. Consistent with social learning theory, we found positive relationships between ethical leadership and coworker ethicality with ethical outcomes. Consistent with social exchange theory, we found that perceptions of ethical leadership strengthened the relationship between coworker ethicality and ethical intentions and OCB, highlighting the importance of leaders in shaping the behavior of organizational members. Purpose Computing ethics represents a long established, yet rapidly evolving, discipline that grows in complexity and scope on a near-daily basis. Therefore, to help understand some of that scope it is essential to incorporate a range of perspectives, from a range of stakeholders, on current and emerging ethical challenges associated with computer technology. This study aims to achieve this by using, a three-pronged, stakeholder analysis of Computer Science academics, ICT industry professionals, and citizen groups was undertaken to explore what they (...) consider to be crucial computing ethics concerns. The overlap between these stakeholder groups are explored, as well as whether their concerns are reflected in the existing literature. Design/methodology/approach Data collection was performed using focus groups, and the data was analysed using a thematic analysis. The data was also analysed to determine if there were overlaps between the literature and the stakeholders’ concerns and attitudes towards computing ethics. Findings The results of the focus group analysis show a mixture of overlapping concerns between the different groups, as well as some concerns that are unique to each of the specific groups. All groups stressed the importance of data as a key topic in computing ethics. This includes concerns around the accuracy, completeness and representativeness of data sets used to develop computing applications. Academics were concerned with the best ways to teach computing ethics to university students. Industry professionals believed that a lack of diversity in software teams resulted in important questions not being asked during design and development. Citizens discussed at length the negative and unexpected impacts of social media applications. These are all topics that have gained broad coverage in the literature. Social implications In recent years, the impact of ICT on society and the environment at large has grown tremendously. From this fast-paced growth, a myriad of ethical concerns have arisen. The analysis aims to shed light on what a diverse group of stakeholders consider the most important social impacts of technology and whether these concerns are reflected in the literature on computing ethics. The outcomes of this analysis will form the basis for new teaching content that will be developed in future to help illuminate and address these concerns. Originality/value The multi-stakeholder analysis provides individual and differing perspectives on the issues related to the rapidly evolving discipline of computing ethics. (shrink)

Thomas's use of Ambrose has received little detailed [End Page 103] attention. One of Leo Elders's last contributions to the study of Aquinas and the Fathers provided an overview of Ambrose's presence in Thomas's writings.2 I hope to expand upon Elders's work of cataloging and describing Thomas's numerous citations of Ambrose—Thomas names Ambrose over eleven hundred times in his writings3—by making a particular argument about Thomas's Christological and sacramental use of Ambrose. While Elders gives an excellent summary of where Ambrose appears in Thomas's corpus, he does not connect Thomas's use of Ambrose in his treatises on Christ and the Eucharist. I argue that Thomas's citations of Ambrose in the tertia pars help him develop an understanding of the Incarnation that supports his sacramental realism, especially emphasizing contact with Christ in the Eucharist.4Much recent reflection on the Eucharist has sought to deemphasize the substantial presence of Christ and emphasize his presence in other ways. Michael C. McGuckian, for example, argues that the Western emphasis on Christ's presence in the Blessed Sacrament has damaged the understanding of participation in the heavenly liturgy and obscured other ways in which Christ is present, such as in the bishop presiding and the proclamation of the word. He claims that "those other presences surpass the presence in the elements in their personal quality, their dynamic force and their effect on our [End Page 104] spirits and are not to be undervalued."5 Looking at Thomas and Ambrose, we will see that Christ's substantial presence in the Eucharist is preeminently personal, dynamic, and efficacious for our spirits. Colman O'Neill's masterful work of sacramental realism, Meeting Christ in the Sacraments, provides an entrée into such a study. The title derives from Ambrose. In his work A Defense of the Prophet David to Theodosius Augustus, Ambrose reflects on Psalm 51. Suddenly, in the middle of confessing his sins, David foresees the cleansing sacrament of baptism. In prophetic wonder, he cries out, "face-to-face you have shown yourself to me, Christ; I have discovered you in your sacraments."6 Even prior to their institution, David prophetically glimpses what the sacraments of the Old Law prefigure. In this vision, David sees "no longer in shadow, nor in figure, nor in type," but meets Christ in his sacraments.7 For Ambrose, the sacraments are real encounters with Christ. Within the Computer Science community, many ethical issues have emerged as significant and critical concerns. Computer ethics is an academic field in its own right and there are unique ethical issues associated with information technology. It encompasses a range of issues and concerns including privacy and agency around personal information, Artificial Intelligence and pervasive technology, the Internet of Things and surveillance applications. As computing technology impacts society at an ever growing pace, there are growing calls for more computer ethics content (...) to be included in Computer Science curricula. In this paper we present the results of a survey that polled faculty from Computer Science and related disciplines about teaching practices for computer ethics at their institutions. The survey was completed by respondents from 61 universities across 23 European countries. Participants were surveyed on whether or not computer ethics is taught to Computer Science students at each institution, the reasons why computer ethics is or is not taught, how computer ethics is taught, the background of staff who teach computer ethics and the scope of computer ethics curricula. W artykule rekonstruuję podstawowe elementy koncepcji „sekularyzmu otwartego” przedstawionej przez Jocelyna Maclure’a i Charlesa Taylora w książce Secularism and Freedom of Conscience (2011). Wskazuję, że jedną z wyróżniających cech ich teorii jest opowiedzenie się za tzw. działaniami dostosowawczymi, których celem jest ochrona wolności sumienia. Następnie zarysowuję główne stanowiska w sporze o status przekonań sumienia i na tym tle przedstawiam „subiektywną” koncepcję wolności sumienia, jaką proponują Maclure i Taylor. W dalszej części artykułu przedstawiam zarzuty, jakie pod adresem kanadyjskich filozofów wyraziła Cecile (...) La- borde, a także odpowiedź na nie udzieloną przez Maclure’a. W ostatniej części artykułu staram się pokazać, że subiektywna teoria przekonań sumienia, w tej postaci, w jakiej została przedstawiona w Secularism and Freedom of Conscience, pozostaje w sprzeczności z leżącą u jej podstaw Taylorowską koncepcją „silnych wartościowań”. Czy określenie współczesnego świata zachodniego mianem świeckiego jest zasadne? Biorąc pod uwagę upadek „tezy sekularyzacyjnej”, zakładającej ścisły związek między powstaniem nowoczesności a atrofią wiary, a także obserwowane w wielu społeczeństwach zachodnich zjawisko „deprywatyzacji” religii, taka diagnoza współczesności musi wydać się co najmniej wątpliwa. Dlaczego zatem Charles Taylor, uważany za jednego z najwybitniejszych współczesnych filozofów, w taki właśnie sposób określa czasy, w których żyjemy? Czy bliższy prawdy nie jest – głoszony przez przedstawicieli nauk humanistycznych i społecznych – pogląd o nastaniu porządku (...) postświeckiego? Prezentowana książka omawia podstawowe cechy współczesnej kultury, które, w przekonaniu kanadyjskiego myśliciela, świadczą o jej świeckim charakterze. Zwraca się tu szczególną uwagę na wyartykułowany przez Taylora filozoficzny wymiar świeckości, który dotyczy nie tyle naszych przekonań, ile warunkującego je i tym samym bardziej od nich podstawowego „kontekstu rozumienia”. Autor pokazuje, że takie ujęcie problemu pozwala Taylorowi wyjść poza negatywne rozumienie świeckości, postrzegające ją jako residuum powstałe wskutek upadku religii, i nie tylko wskazać na wzajemne zapośredniczenie tych kategorii, lecz także odsłonić historyczny, moralny i społeczny wymiar tego, co świeckie. Uchwycenie historycznego oraz strukturalnego powiązania świeckości z religią umożliwia także dokonanie krytyki niektórych wersji postsekularyzmu. (shrink)

Neste artigo procuro expor a forma pela qual aparece o conceito de beatitude ( _Seligkeit_ - _beatitudo_ ) no pensamento de Fichte e de Espinosa. Tendo isso em vista, ressalto a importância de considerar os fundamentos metafísicos dos seus sistemas filosóficos para poder compreender suas implicações práticas - em particular as morais e políticas - a respeito do sentido que aquele conceito adota. Assim, pretendo analisar a metafísica fichteana do ansiar ( _Sehnen_ ) como base da sua concepção da beatitude (...) em um sentido moral, ao mesmo tempo que buscarei, em um sentido filosófico-histórico, confrontar essa perspectiva com a ideia espinosana de uma _beatitudo,_ que, deixando de lado a moralidade, uma vez que para ele a política assume um papel primário na existência humana, de um ponto de vista fichteano só poderia ser considerada como irracional e dogmática. O confronto entre ambos os pensadores pretende favorecer a compreensão tanto de suas posições sobre o tema como dos seus sistemas filosóficos _per se._. (shrink)

Históricamente, en los principales análisis filosóficos sobre el concepto de ‘verdad’ estuvo implícita lo que hoy se conoce como la teoría correspondentista de la verdad, la cual puede ser trazada desde Aristóteles hasta Immanuel Kant. A principios del siglo XIX, los detractores de la teoría correspondentista de la verdad comenzaron a argumentar, entre otras cosas, que esta postura es oscura, demasiado estrecha y autocomplaciente o argumentativamente circular. No obstante, en el ámbito científico algunos defensores de ciertas posturas realistas de la (...) ciencia han considerado que la verdad es la meta cognoscitva más importante de la actividad científica. Este estudio se realizó para establecer la plausibilidad de este argumento realista. Mediante el análisis de la validez de algunos argumentos de tipo ontológico, semántico y epistémico propuestos por algunos defensores de distintas versiones del llamado ‘Realismo Científico’, con los que se intenta relacionar el éxito empírico y predictivo de las mejores teorías científicas con la verdad, se muestra que, desde un punto de vista lógico, parece difícil confirmar que tales teorías nos proporcionen conocimiento confiable del mundo natural. Se sugiere que los científicos no son agentes confirmadores; sino agentes probabilísticos, esto es, agentes que buscan calcular la probabilidad con la que un hacedor de verdad convierte en verdadero a un portador de verdad con el que la ciencia comunica sus resultados. Dotyczy ona postulowanych w obrębie pewnej metafilozoficznej narracji związków między współczesnymi stanowiskami zwanymi epistemicznym realizmem strukturalnym i ontycznym realizmem strukturalnym a poglądami filozofów z początku XX wieku. W artykule rekonstruuję wymienione dwa stanowiska, postulowane związki, jakie mają one mieć z dwoma filozofami, Henri Poincarém oraz Ernstem Cassirerem, a następnie przedstawiam, dlaczego te postulowane związki są nietrafnie rozpoznane. Niesie to za sobą wnioski dotyczące swoistości wymienionych stanowisk oraz (...) pojęć obiektywności i rzeczywistości w ich kontekście. (shrink)

Artykuł traktuje o libertarianizmie, jego genezie, źródłach i odłamach. Jest to stosunkowo młody ruch ideowo-polityczny. Libertarianie szczególny nacisk kładą na prawa jednostki do własności prywatnej i indywidualizm. Mają krytyczny ogląd instytucji państwa, wyrażający się w postulacie radykalnego ograniczenia jego uprawnień lub też jego demontażu. Minarchizm i anarchokapitalizm stanowią dominujące nurty współczesnego libertarianizmu. Minarchiści opowiadają się za tym, żeby kompetencje państwa zostały zawężone do minimum - powinno ono sprawować pieczę nad wymiarem bezpieczeństwa i całkowicie powściągnąć ingerencję w gospodarkę. Anarchokapitaliści z kolei (...) stoją na stanowisku, że instytucja państwa powinna zostać zniesiona. Uznają oni bowiem, że nie sposób pogodzić wolności jednostki i prawa do własności prywatnej w ramach państwa - nawet takiego, którego władza sprowadza się do zawiadywania sektorami zaznaczanymi przez minar- chistów. Radykalni libertarianie spod znaku anarchokapitalizmu są zdania, że wszelkie uprawnienia państwa powinny zostać przekazane prywatnej inicjatywie. (shrink)

Para ello, necesitaremos discutir la noción de asunto de una oración o fórmula, que será crucial en la determinación del carácter analítico o sintético de las inferencias. En el curso de dicha discusión, intentaremos mostrar que hay un interés filosófico en considerar semánticas para sistemas de lógica que admiten valores de verdad sin sentido, para lo cual (...) haremos uso esencial de dos sistemas de “Lógicas del Sinsentido” introducidos por Dimitri Bochvar y Sören Halldén, respectivamente. El interés de considerar sistemas con semánticas de este tipo reside en que, bajo ciertas condiciones, dichos sistemas podrán ser tenidos por analíticos, o sintéticos. (shrink)

Many will readily acknowledge there being rights of humans which trump the rights of states. Thus, these rights are aptly labeled ‘Human Rights,’ by which we may measure and admonish state-conduct. However, in contemporary Human Rights discourse, there is an emerging strand of thought in the academy that is Anti-Human Rights. To understand the foundations of Anti-Human Rights discourse, and to address the arguments that have been put forth, I analyze and incorporate the works of John O. Nelson, Raymond Geuss, (...) Wendy Brown, and Slavoj Žižek. Based on the same, I argue that the core arguments to these assertions are unpersuasive. I attempt at viewing Human Rights justification in different terms, and, to argue for the legitimacy of Human Rights while abandoning the search for justifications in nature, U.S. Foreign Policy, or Neo-Marxist views. El trabajo de investigación busca esclarecer la Forma baconiana como “ley natural”. Se sostiene que los otros sentidos del concepto de Forma en Bacon, tales como diferencia verdadera, fuente de emanación o naturaleza naturante, forman parte de su eclecticismo, pero en estricto sentido, esas expresiones no dicen nada en torno a las leyes de las naturalezas simples o de los fenómenos físicos. En contraste, la Forma como ley no sólo permite comprender mejor la peculiar lectura de Bacon sobre la legalidad (...) natural, sino que posibilita establecer nexos con la parte operativa. En la investigación también se escudriñan las relaciones de la ley natural baconiana con la teología y la ley jurídica. (shrink)

En el presente artículo se analiza la relación filosófica entre la obra de Johann Gottlieb Fichte (1762-1814) y de Friedrich von Hardenberg (Novalis) (1772-1801). En particular se estudia el modo en que uno y otro concibieron el rol de la imaginación (Einbildungskraft) en el marco de sus ideas y pensamientos sobre filosofía. A su vez, este análisis conlleva determinar cuál es el tipo de relación metafísica que ellos establecieron entre los conceptos de lo finito y de lo infinito. Esto último (...) se presenta al interior de una clase particular de filosofía, a saber: el idealismo “de lo” absoluto o de lo finito, por contraposición al dogmatismo filosófico y al idealismo absoluto –encarnado en la filosofía de Hegel. Como consecuencia de este estudio en que se ponen en comparación las posturas de Fichte y de Novalis, se concluye que, para poder comprender de manera coherente sus posiciones, se tiene que resaltar el sentido moral de su pensamiento, en particular respecto de la fuerza de la imaginación en paralelo con los alcances de la facultad de la razón. También se subraya la continuidad de sus planteos respecto de la filosofía crítica y práctica de Kant. (shrink)

The aim of the article is an analysis of the early works of Jarosław Ładosz, a Polish philosopher and mathematician, who in the 1960s conducted a thorough examination of the most important scientific accomplishments in the field of logic and mathematics from the perspective of Marxist philosophy. Being nowadays assessed as a symbol of dogmatism and orthodoxy in Polish Marxism, Ładosz revised most of the superstitions on the relationship between mathematical logic and dialectics, which have been legitimized in official Marxist (...) philosophy since the times of Marx and Engels, in his early works. Having rejected the claims of some Marxists for the formalization of dialectics, he presented the original concept of dialectics as a methodological tool for studying the sources of logical knowledge. Combining dialectical materialism with Jean Piaget’s epistemology, he formulated an elaborate, original hypothesis of the social construction of logico-mathematical knowledge, while at the same time transcending the subject-object division as-sumed in Marxist dogmatic epistemology. Omawiana odpowiedzialność rozpatrywana jest na trzech płaszczyznach: odpowiedzialności prewencyjnej, odpowiedzialności odszkodowawczej oraz odpowiedzialności ubezpieczeniowej. W badaniach wykorzystano metodę dogmatyczno-prawną oraz analizę funkcjonalną jako podstawowe metody badawcze w badaniu prawa. Badania zostały oparte na analizie przepisów Kodeksu cywilnego, ustaw szczególnych oraz wybranych ogólnych warunków ubezpieczenia. Artykuł kończą wnioski dotyczące zakresu odpowiedzialności cywilnej, możliwych podstaw tejże odpowiedzialności oraz roli ubezpieczeń jako (...) potencjalnego, podstawowego mechanizmu służącego kompensacji szkód środowiskowych. Para desarrollar este trabajo, en el primer capítulo caracterizaré con cierta extensión dos de las principales posturas funcionalistas del progreso científico, a saber, la defendida por Thomas S. Kuhn y Larry Laudan, respectivamente. Posteriormente, haré un análisis crítico de estas posturas. En particular, mostraré que un modelo de progreso científico basado en la resolución de problemas no puede pasar por alto explicar cómo es que se genera un problema científico y cómo puede ser medida no sólo la importancia cognitiva de (...) los problemas científicos a resolver; sino la importancia cognitiva que tienen las soluciones a los problemas que enfrenta la ciencia. En el segundo capítulo caracterizaré y analizaré la postura realista metafísica sobre el progreso científico desarrollada por Philip Kitcher. El análisis del modelo de Kitcher es pertinente para el presente estudio debido a que este autor integró muchas de las críticas que se le hicieron a las posturas funcionalistas anteriores a su propuesta. Sin embargo, como sugeriré en la conclusión de ese capítulo, la postura defendida por Kitcher en torno al progreso cognitivo de la ciencia fluctúa entre la defensa de un realismo de corte metafísico (Kitcher 1993 y 1995) y un realismo de corte semántico (Kitcher 2001a, 2001b, 2002 y 2007) que hace difícil entender con precisión y a cabalidad su postura. Con los anteriores elementos, en el tercer capítulo revisaré el debate entre las posturas funcionalistas y las posturas realistas sobre el progreso cognitivo de la ciencia en el marco del llamado Realismo Epistemológico Convergente, con el objetivo de evaluar si otras posturas realistas pueden explicar de mejor manera el progreso cognitivo de la ciencia. Como mostraré, el realismo epistemológico convergente requiere para su defensa de una definición conceptual precisa en relación a lo que debe entenderse por “verdad” – o “aproximación a la verdad” – y su conexión con el éxito científico; así como la relación de referencia entre las entidades y organismos teóricos observables e inobservables que la ciencia postula y el mundo natural. Para analizar estas conexiones, en este capítulo revisaré varios argumentos anti-realistas en contra de la relación cognitiva que los defensores del realismo epistemológico convergente pretenden establecer entre el éxito empírico y la verdad, por un lado, y el éxito empírico y la referencia, por el otro. Posteriormente, analizaré los contra-argumentos realistas más importantes que a mi juicio se han elaborado para defender el realismo epistemológico convergente. Finalmente, mostraré que los contra-argumentos realistas no logran ser lo suficientemente sólidos para evadir con éxito los ataques anti-realistas en torno al progreso cognitivo de la ciencia. El cuarto capítulo de este trabajo lo dedicaré a caracterizar y analizar la postura fundacionista defendida por Alexander Bird. Este autor sostuvo que la ciencia progresa cuando muestra “acumulación de conocimiento justificado”. Para validar su postura, este autor contrastó sus ideas con los conceptos sobre el progreso científico construidos precisamente por Kuhn y Laudan, respectivamente. El objetivo de Bird fue mostrar que el criterio de “resolución de problemas” defendido por estos autores es regresivo y, por ello, anti-intuitivo. En este capítulo analizo los argumentos de Bird, muestro en qué fallan para, finalmente, evaluar su postura a partir de sus propios fundamentos epistemológicos. En el quinto y último capítulo del libro ofreceré algunas conclusiones que pueden ser inferidas del presente estudio. (shrink)

Una de las obras fundamentales para entender el pensamiento de Max Scheler lleva por título la expresión angustiniana "ordo amoris". ¿Se trata de una mera coincidencia o se puede estrechar la relación entre ambos pensadores? El artículo muestra que un análisis exhaustivo de la cuestión nos lleva a concluir que existe una profunda influencia del santo de Hipona en Scheler, revelada explícitamente en las citas agustinianas de Scheler, e implícitamente en nociones centrales del pensamiento scheleriano, como la "Gesinnung" o "disposición (...) del ánimo". El libro de Lorraine Daston Breve Historia de la Atención Científica, publicado en español por editorial La Cifra en el 2012, consta de seis apartados a través de los cuales Daston formula una interesante pregunta desde las perspectivas de la psicología de la investigación científica y la epistemología de la historia natural: por qué, cuándo y cómo ocurre que los científicos dirigen su atención sobre determinados objetos de estudio y no sobre otros. Nedílnou součástí textů Odo Marquarda je humor i úvahy o humoru, který spojuje s rozumem člověka. Proto je tématem příspěvku na počest Odo Marquarda připomenutí možného spojení humoru, smíchu a rozumu. Marquardovým úvahám o spojení humoru a rozumu předsazuji v textu nejprve interpretaci dílčích výzkumů evolučně biologického pohledu na vznik a roli smíchu, jemuž je přisuzována podstatná role při porozumění vývoje člověka, tedy i schopností jeho rozumu. Z biologické perspektivy je smích chápán jako typ společenského chování. Díky sociálním aspektům smíchu (...) je zřetelná linie mezi humorem, který smích vyvolává a rozumem, který je schopen humor a smích produkovat. Dále navážu Marquardovými tezemi, představujícími některá možná spojení mezi rozumem a humorem v intencích jeho filozofické antropologie. V závěru s pomocí mikroetymologického připomenutí naznačím, proč humor náleží mezi filozoficky vrcholné aktivity lidského rozumu a kde se Marquardovy úvahy mohou doplňovat s evolučně biologickým výzkumem smíchu. The lecture focuses on the role of O. Marquard in the discussions on post-war Germany. His study The Difficulties with Philosophy of History is introduced as a valuable guide to the characterization of the main features of the reflection of German identity and it outlines the ways to the resolution of a stalemate that this theme has reached in both literary and non-literary texts. In this study, the clash between philosophy of history and anthropology, which Marquard outlined and which resulted (...) in his sceptical stance, is applied outside philosophy. It describes repeated conflicts between German historians and enables an apt characterization of the changes in the discussions on German identity in the works of German authors – Marquard’s contemporaries – such as Martin Walser, Günter Grass or H. Příspěvek vychází z autorova disertačního projektu, který mapuje myšlenkovou spřízněnost mezi Hansem Blumenbergem a jednotlivými filosofy tzv. Ritterovy školy, tedy Odo Marquardem, Hermannem Lübbem, Robertem Spaemannem a Martinem Krielem. Autor předkládá obecnou charakteristiku Ritterovy školy a „skeptické generace“ (H. Schelsky), hledá argumenty, které by osvětlily, proč bývá zdůrazňována spřízněnost mezi Blumenbergem a „Ritterovci“, a poukazuje na její filosofické konvergence v oblasti praktické filosofie. V analýze vychází z několika nesporných afinit mezi Marquardovým a Blumenbergovým myšlenkovým světem: z návaznosti na gehlenovské pojetí (...) člověka jako deficitní (a kompenzující) bytosti, z oslavy polyteismu, ze společných obtíží s filosofií dějin, které je vedou ke kritice diskurzivní etiky (v duchu Nové levice). Předkládá a zdůvodňuje tezi, podle níž se zmínění Ritterovi žáci přiblížili k sobě navzájem – a současně i k Blumenbergovi – nejvíce poté, co byli nuceni reagovat nejen na studentské hnutí druhé poloviny 60. let, jež zpochybnilo demokratické struktury Spolkové republiky, ale i na neomarxismus, o nějž se studentské hnutí opíralo. Druhou část studie tvoří analýza liberálně konzervativní kritiky diskurzivní etiky, jejíž jádro představuje překvapivé Marquardovo čtení Descarta: Descartes dočasné a provizorní morálky je zde postaven proti Descartovi nepochybnému metodicky zajištěnému. «Obra en Blanco» es un libro sobre la obra temprana de Julio Enrique Blanco de la Rosa (1890-1986), un olvido más en la historia de la filosofía colombiana. Salvo en notas al margen, a Blanco no se lo encuentra en los estudios sobre la historia de la filosofía. Algunos han atribuido su desconocimiento a la incomprensión de un medio que no supo de su genialidad, otros creen que se debe a que su filosofía fue una necedad que consistió en poner (...) nuevos nombres a las viejas cosas. «Obra en Blanco» no intenta defender su genialidad o censurar a quienes lo han acusado de necedad: analiza y presenta una selección de un periodo juvenil de su obra, comprendido entre 1909-1920. Con ello sólo se busca aportar a la construcción de una historia de la filosofía nacional, y alimentar la discusión sobre la historia de la contribución filosófica de un hombre, cuyas páginas se encuentran aún en blanco.
