    Precuneus–Prefrontal Activity during Awareness of Visual Verbal Stimuli.T. W. Kjaer, M. Nowak, K. W. Kjaer, A. R. Lou & H. C. Lou - 2001 - Consciousness and Cognition 10 (3):356-365.
Awareness is a personal experience, which is only accessible to the rest of world through interpretation. We set out to identify a neural correlate of visual awareness, using brief subliminal and supraliminal verbal stimuli while measuring cerebral blood flow distribution with H215O PET. Awareness of visual verbal stimuli differentially activated medial parietal association cortex (precuneus), which is a polymodal sensory cortex, and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, which is thought to be primarily executive. Our results suggest participation of these higher order perceptual (...)

Cerebellar involvement in movement timing on a variety of timescales.Jeffrey S. Grethe & Richard F. Thompson - 1997 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 20 (2):250-251.
The cerebellum has been hypothesized to play a role in a variety of movement timing tasks that involve the processing of temporal information on a variety of timescales. Braitenberg, Heck & Sultan propose a new theory of cerebellar function that is able to account for movement timing on the order of a couple of hundred milliseconds. However, this theory does not account for the rôle the cerebellum plays in the acquisition and retention of adaptively timed discrete movements that are on (...)

Client involvement in home care practice: a relational sociological perspective.Stinne Glasdam, Nina Henriksen, Lone Kjaer & Jeanette Praestegaard - 2013 - Nursing Inquiry 20 (4):329-340.
‘Client involvement’ has been a mantra within health policies, education curricula and healthcare institutions over many years, yet very little is known about how ‘client involvement’ is practised in home‐care services. The aim of this article is to analyse ‘client involvement’ in practise seen from the positions of healthcare professionals, an elderly person and his relative in a home‐care setting. A sociologically inspired single case study was conducted, consisting of three weeks of observations and interviews. The study has a focus (...)

    Mediating Consolation With Suicidal Patients.Fredricka Gilje & Anne-Grethe Talseth - 2007 - Nursing Ethics 14 (4):546-557.
Psychiatric nurses frequently encounter suicidal patients. Caring for such patients often raises ethical questions and dilemmas. The research question for this study was: 'What understandings are revealed in texts about consolation and psychiatric nurses' responses to suicidal patients?' A Gadamerian approach guided re-interpretation of published texts. Through synthesizing four interpretive phases, a comprehensive interpretation emerged. This revealed being 'at home' with self, or an ethical way of being, as a hermeneutic understanding of a way to become ready to mediate consolation (...)

  10. Nordic Social Pedagogical Approach to Early Years.Grethe Kragh-Müller & Charlotte Ringsmose (eds.) - 2017 - Cham: Imprint: Springer.
This book studies the major characteristics of the social pedagogical approach to early childhood education and care. It does so by investigating the distinctive elements of the Nordic approach and tradition. The cultural, educational, and ideological structures and values within the Nordic tradition indicate a strong "social pedagogical" rather than "early education" emphasis. The Nordic tradition applies a social learning approach that emphasizes play, relationships and outdoor life, and presumes that learning takes place through children's participation in social interaction and (...)

Unburdening Suffering: Responses of Psychiatrists To Patients' Suicide Deaths.Anne-Grethe Talseth & Fredricka Gilje - 2007 - Nursing Ethics 14 (5):620-636.
The research questions was: 'How do psychiatrists describe their responses to patients' suicidal deaths in the light of a published model of consolation?' The textual data (n = 5) was a subset of a larger (n = 19) study. Thematic analysis showed a main theme, 'unburdening grief', and six themes. Embedded in the results is a story about suffering that reveals that, through ethical reflectiveness, a meaning of suffering can be recreated that unburdens grief and opens up new understandings with (...)

Struggling to Become Ready for Consolation: experiences of suicidal patients.Anne-Grethe Talseth, Fredricka Gilje & Astrid Norberg - 2003 - Nursing Ethics 10 (6):614-623.
Although there has been a vast amount of research about suicide, very few studies focus on the inner world of the suicidal patient. A secondary analysis of two exemplar narrative interviews with Norwegian patients reveals a glimpse of the inner world of suicidal patients’ longing for consolation. The results of a phenomenological hermeneutic study inspired by Ricoeur’s philosophy reveal five themes and one main theme. The themes are: ‘longing for closeness’, ‘desiring connectedness’, ‘struggling to open up inner dialogue’, ‘breaking into (...)

  30. Critical Theories of Crisis in Europe: From Weimar to the Euro.Poul F. Kjaer & Niklas Olsen - 2016 - Lanham, MD 20706, USA: Rowman & Littlefield International.
What is to be learned from the chaotic downfall of the Weimar Republic and the erosion of European liberal statehood in the interwar period vis-a-vis the ongoing European crisis? This book analyses and explains the recurrent emergence of crises in European societies. It asks how previous crises can inform our understanding of the present crisis. The particular perspective advanced is that these crises not only are economic and social crises, but must also be understood as crises of public power, order (...)

Coping with the illness and caring for themselves places extensive demands on them. Thus, pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) is recommended as a means to facilitate healthy transitions in everyday life with COPD. This study explores the experience of patients with COPD in terms of their transitions in health during and after (...)

Introduction The starting point is that ethical competence is the basis for ethical healthcare practices and quality of care. Simultaneously, there is a need for research and development from a holistic multi-professional perspective. Aim The aim is to create a proposed model for multi-professional ethical competence grounded in clarified meanings and dimensions of ethical competence studied from a multi-professional healthcare perspective. The research questions are, what is ethical competence from a multi-professional healthcare perspective and what strengthens a multi-professional ethical healthcare (...)
