Altere Lehrbücher der Mathematik pflegten damit zu beginnen, die Frage nach dem Wesen der Mathematik und ihrer einzelnen Teilgebiete zu beantworten, ja, geradezu Definitionen dieser Be griffe zu geben. Wir sind heute davon abgekommen. Mit Recht! Denn eine solche Frage gehört nicht an den Anfang, sondern an den Schluß einer gewissen Beschäftigung mit Mathematik. Erst wenn man bereits etwas von der Mathematik kennengelernt hat, erscheint es angebracht, sich einmal über die mathematische Methode, über den Aufbau des Lehrgutes und über seine (...) Grundlage klarzuwerden. Es haben zahlreiche frühere Lehrpläne für höhere Schulen einen "wiederholenden Aufbau des Zahlbegriffes" in die Ober klassen verlegt. Es haben die Meraner Vorschläge und nach ihnen andere moderne Stoffpläne als Abschluß des mathematischen Unterrichts "Rückblicke unter Heranziehung geschichtlich€'[und philosophischer Gesichtspunkte" gefot:dert. Die preußischen Richt linien vom Jahre 1925 legten sowohl in den methodischen Bemerkungen wie in den Lehrplänen großen Nachdruck auf derartige philosophisch vertiefte Rückblicke: "Logik und Er kenntnistheorie finden einen Platz in der Mathematik. Auch die psychologischen Grundlagen des mathematischen Denkens soll der Unterricht berühren. Einzelfragen wie Zahlen- und Raumvor stellungen sind nach Möglichkeit philosophisch zu vertiefen- so heißt es in ihnen. Auch die Marienauer Vorschläge (1945), um wenigstens einen der neuen Pläne zu nennen, fordern: "Aufbau und Grundlage der Mathematik: Entwicklung des Zahl-und Funk tionsbegriffes, axiomatisches Verfahren der Grundlegung am Bei spiel der Geometrie, Ausblicke auf Logik und Erkenntnislehre. Noch immer hiilt sich eine ganze Gesellschaft, die es "nicht fertiggebracht hat, eine andere Geschichte hervorzubringen" (Jean Baudrillard), durch die nachgetragene Kritik und Schuldfeststellung ihrer Meisterdenker schadlos. Der "Nazi-Philosoph" Martin Heidegger beherrscht die feuilletonistische Hermeneutik der Jahreswende 1987 / 88; der "Nazi-Jurist" Carl Schmitt war von 1945 bis zu seinem Tode, 40 Jahre spiiter, immer wieder Gegenstand poli­ tologischer (...) und politi scher Verdammungsverdikte. Wer sich auf Carl Schmitt einliillt, begibt sich in einen Irrgarten, der emp­ fanglichen Gemiitern ein Faszinosum fUr sich ist. Die Beitriige von Sombart, Altmann und Thcker im vorliegenden Buch versuchen, dieser Schmitt'schen Attraktion auf die Spur zu kommen - und stellen dabei mehr Forschungsdesi­ derate als gesicherte Erkenntnisse fest. Vor allem aber geht es in dies em Buch darum, Carl Schmitt die Gerechtig­ keit einer angemessenen Auseinandersetzung widerfahren zu lassen. Freilich nicht dem "ganzen" Carl Schmitt, aber doch jenen Aspekten seines Werkes, die sich mit der Kritik des Liberalismus befassen. Carl Schmitt kritisiert den Liberalismus aus der Position eines Anti-Libera­ len, die sich in vierfacher Umschreibung skizzieren liillt. Der Anti-Liberalismus Schmitts ruhrt 1. von der anthropologischen Grundauffassung her. Even after the publication of that admirable edition there remain not a few passages of the Iohannis that are doubtful and worth discussing, because the only extant manuscript appears to give a very corrupt text of the epos, and Corippus' Latin usage is not always easy to cope with.

This may have been important for the later reception of Augustine’s Trinitarian thought. Christology is clearly present throughout the various parts of the work. The differences between the parts can be traced to the various contexts (...) in which they were composed and/or delivered: e.g., the Anti-Donatist controversy that is behind the first sermons, and the Anti-Pelagian and Anti-Homean controversies that often fueled the later ones. Sometimes anti-heretical strategies are used as a crucial step for advancing the teaching of the preacher, even if the heresy being opposed is of no immediate relevance or importance to the North Africa of Augustine’s day. Surprisingly, the second half of the work contains various passages in which anti-heretical strategies were clearly pursued. It is particularly Augustine’s Anti-Pelagian strategy that provides us with clues regarding the historical context of this part of the work. (shrink)
