Este trabajo, inédito hasta ahora, recoge la transcripción de un encuentro que tuvo el autor con profesores de Filosofía para presentar algunas ideas desarrolladas en su libro El interés por la verdad. De acuerdo con el planteamiento que hace Millán-Puelles, dicho interés es de dos tipos: cognoscitivo y comunicativo. En estas páginas aborda el primero de ellos, a saber, el interés por conocer la verdad, y concretamente, ciertos aspectos morales de dicho interés.

This article intends to describe the central themes of Millán-Puelles' thought. The fundamental intuitions of his youth remain over the course of his life and mark a line of creative and personal thinking between Phenomenology and classical philosophy, mainly Thomism. He elaborates a metaphysics of knowledge with a vigorous defence of spontaneous realism. His defence of the real leads him to grant special importance to the study of the unreal. The paper focuses on Reinhardt Grossmann's analysis of the Argument from Physics, as well as the analysis by the Spanish philosopher Antonio Millán-Puelles, in an attempt to assess the validity of the Argument on the basis of their respective critical views. Both authors agree in perceptual realism and in the need to distinguish between the scope and object of Physics and the ordinary objects of natural perception. Their criticisms mainly concern the innappropiate use of the principle of reduction (...) in the Argument and the distinction between secondary and primary qualities, which is, according to Grossmann, one of the sources of idealism and phenomenalism. A partir de los textos de Millán-Puelles (1921-2005), se expone su enseñanza sobre la muerte, que gira alrededor de la índole general de la vida, la estructura hilemórfica del ser humano y la inmortalidad del alma intelectiva. Al final se presenta la posición de Millán-Puelles en cuestiones éticas referidas a la muerte: suicidio, pena de muerte, etc.

Husserl’s conception of ideal objects convinced some of his early disciples that he was presenting a new form of realism. This impression arises, in my view, from a twofold misunderstanding. First, there was a misunderstanding of the limits of the phenomenological claims of Logical Investigations and, second, an erroneous belief that ideal objects are interpreted in a realist fashion therein. The ultimate source of the first phenomenological schism is not, therefore, so much a reaction to an alleged sudden change in (...) Husserl’s position, but rather a misunderstanding of the concept of ideality presented in Logical Investigations. Further, an alleged “compatibility” between the realist conception of ideality and the Husserlian conception is to be found in one of the ways that Husserl addresses the problem of constitution. However, the Spanish philosopher Antonio Millán-Puelles has shown that the use of terms such as “constitutive activity” or “genesis”—in a realist metaphysics, to designate the arising of ideal objects—should not be interpreted in a psychologistic way, as though these objects remained absorbed by the reality of the mental processes they are made present by. En su Crítica de la Razón Pura, Kant discute dos doctrinas de origen aristotélico: la definición de la verdad como adaequatio intellectus et rei y la doctrina de los trascendentales, condensada en la fórmula quodlibet ens est unum, verum, bonum. El filósofo español Antonio Millán-Puelles ha llevado a cabo en dos de sus libros un examen del valor de esta discusión kantiana. Sobre la doctrina de los transcendentales de Aquinas, 700 años después, se han proyectado fines muydistintos: el intento de refundar un nuevo estilo de hacer metafísica o filosofía primera, como propuso JanA. Aertsen; de ampliar un posible uso antropológico aún más compartido, como sugiere Leonardo Polo;de lograr una recomposición lógica de la articulación existente entre los conceptos metafísicos, comoahora propone Millán Puelles. A su vez en la conclusión se trata de justificar una posible complementariedadentre ellas.On the doctrine of (...) the «transcendentals» of Aquinas, —700 years later—, very different aims haveprojected: the attempt to «re-found» a new style to make metaphysics or first philosophy, as Jan A. Aertsenproposed; to extend a possible anthropological use still more shared, as it suggests Leonardo Polo; toobtain a logical resetting of the existing joint between the Metaphysical concepts, as now Millán Puelles proposes. The article focuses first of all on the peculiar kind of anthropology implicit in the thought of Millán-Puelles. In the second part it underlines the relevance of the distinction between nature and freedom in the political anthropology of the author, as well as the outstandig importance of the idea of liberty with its several significant nuances of meaning.

This article studies the "Theory of the Pur Object" in the Spanish philosopher Antonio Millán-Puelles, relating it to the Scholastics and to of Husserl and Hartmann.

The article offers a general philosophical portrait of Millán-Puelles' work, focusing on two fundamental topics, objectivity and freedom.

Jean Piaget, biólogo suizo, fue reconocido mundialmente por sus trabajos sobre los procesos evolutivos de los niños, a través de los cuales se describe el modo en que se gesta la adaptación por asimilación y la acomodación en circularidad a lo largo de la infancia; en concreto, por exponer los modos en que ocurre la génesis psicológica del conocimiento. Buena parte de sus postulados se consideraron como fundamento para el desarrollo de una «Pedagogía constructivista», la cual fundamentó distintos modelos curriculares (...) en Hispanoamérica. Si bien es que esta teoría en la actualidad ha sido, sino superada, intercambiada por un modelo centrado en los «saberes para la vida», ello no implicó que su desplazamiento obedeciera a una evaluación exhaustiva que demostrara la inviabilidad del modelo o los fundamentos piagetanos; el desuso, entonces, obedeció a un «cambio» de paradigma, en lugar de a un agotamiento o refutamiento de los principios psicológico- pedagógicos que constituían el modelo psicogenético del ginebrino. A partir de la convicción de que la filosofía ha de atenerse a los datos de la realidad, de la imagen del filósofo como sometido a la fuerza de la verdad que se le impone, según la enseñanza de Aristóteles en su Metafísica, de que le está prohibido facilitarse la tarea descartando aquellas aristas de la experiencia reacias a encajar en sistemas previamente establecidos, Millán-Puelles desplegó su titánica labor filosófica. Esta posición totalizadora permitió que, a partir de la (...) filosofía de la Escuela, vitalmente asimilada, y en contacto con las principales corrientes del pensamiento moderno, especialmente Kant y la fenomenología, su pensamiento esclareciera importantes asuntos pertenecientes a distintas disciplinas filosóficas: la metafísica, la antropología, la ética, la filosofía política, la pedagogía, y también a campos afines como la economía, la historia y el arte.(Resumen de la editorial). In the last hundred years –from "Disaster" of 1898– Spanish philosophy enters in a peculiar crisis. The military defeat and the economic depression do not lead to the Spanish thinkers towards the modernity. They reject the scheme “subject-object” and they look for the encounter between a radical subjectivity and a transobjective reality. These common characteristics are in Unamuno, Ortega y Gasset, Zubiri, Millán-Puelles and L. Polo.

Millán-Puelles' theory of freedom is radically separated from all other views that attribute an absolute character to human freedon. One of these theses is precisely that of Schelling, according to whom "the essence of the self is freedom".

Millán-Puelles justifies classic realism on the basis of the human person's dignity, analyzing subjectivity as one of conscience and volition. The author suggests that Millán-Puelles recognize in the relational openness, equally constitutive of the person, the formal reason of the subsistence of its inmanent perfection.

Millán-Puelles and Maritain suitably delimited the fields of ethics and art, doing what justice; self-determination of art and dignity of man demanded. Nevertheless, our reverence for the autonomy of art and dignity of man should neither lead us to declare the latter innocent nor to free it from all responsibility. This is what George Steiner strongly states. The followers of absolute freedom seem not to realize the deep impact the work of art exercises upon the reader. Censorship is (...) far more complex and intricate than champions of absolute freedom believe. At any rate, such a responsibility is no concern of the State but rather of the social community, specially the family and what has been called "the tribe". The art critic must assume his responsibility not only on what refers to aesthetic aspects; he must do so on what refers to the concept of man that springs from the work of art he analizes. (shrink)

Deconstructivism constantly remits to two metaphysical problems of enormous importance: the reference of the ideal to the real, and the relationship of the changeable to the permanent. Both problems have been the object of concern of professor Millán-Puelles: the first one (reality/the ideal), in his book Teoría del objeto puro; and the second one (change/-permanence), in La estructura de la subjetividad.

From the plexus of conscience and reality as explained by Millán-Puelles, we understand the thesis -pace Descartes and Husserl- that ontology is possible only when it is understood as a description of the conditions of the natural being. To be by nature a rational being is to be by nature an existent thought. If thought is what results from the activity proper to reason due to its belonging to the world, then reason that thinks has no need of (...) any certainty by way of reflection that it thinks. This papers deals with the actual situation of philosophy. It might be considered an "exogen configuration" of it, with the conscience of the end of modernity, the current attitudes of philosophers, the academic frame and activities of philosophy itself and the lack of racionality in society. On the other hand, it might be considered an "endogen configuration" of philosophy, which in this papers only appears in a very brief sketch. The merely possible is a sort of pure object, framed in the background of the general chart of the unreal feasibly non-existent, and defined by the uncontradictoriety and the fitness for to exist. In this paper are studied, according to Millán-Puelles, some objections and controversies about that concept. It is enphasized the theory of Leibniz concerning to the exigentia existentiae of the possible. The openness of the human spirit to the totality of the real plays a central role in A. Millán-Puelles’s thought. This thesis is based on the existente of an ontological truth, i.e., in the affirmation of the intelligibility of the real, which does not depend on its being an object of representation on the part of the spirit.
