En este artículo se comparan dos textos clásicos sobre la sociedad de plantación: Casa-grande & senzala (1933), del brasileño Gilberto Freyre, y Contrapunteo cubano del tabaco y el azúcar (1940), del cubano Fernando Ortiz. Los dos autores describen y analizan la convivencia de los grupos y sujetos de distintas proveniencias étnicas, culturales y sociales con dos conceptos que significan valoraciones profundamente diferentes: ‘mestizaje’ (Gilberto Freyre) y ‘transculturación’ (Fernando Ortiz). En el ‘mestizaje’ se mantiene el ‘mito de las tres razas’. El (...) fundamento de la convivencia es, en última instancia, el mestizaje biológico bajo las condiciones de la sociedad colonial cuyas leyes y orden el proceso de mestizaje no pone en cuestión. La convivencia del mestizaje está marcada por la ambivalencia entre represión y protección. La ‘transculturación’ de Fernando Ortiz define los sujetospor sus prácticas sociales y por su posición en las configuraciones de poder económico y social. En consecuencia, se trata de procesos complejos de negociación en los cuales tanto el sujeto de dominación como el dominado están involucrados. A pesar de sus diferencias, los dos conceptos contribuyen significativamente a una revaluación de las culturas latinoamericanas en comparación con las culturas nórdicas. (shrink)

La cuestión hermenéutica, es decir las cuestiones filosóficas que tratan del problema de la comprensión y de la interpretación de textos, de comportamientos sociales y de culturas ajenas, es con certeza uno de los problemas fundamentales del pensamiento filosófico del siglo XX. Filósofos tan distintos como Heidegger y Habermas, Gadamer y Derrida, para sólo mencionar algunos, tienen este cuestionamiento como punto común. La relevancia de este tema para la filosofía actual fue motivo para elaborar en este seminario dos posiciones fundamentales (...) en el contexto de esta discusión, representadas por la filosofía de Wilhelm Dilthey y de Friedrich Nietzsche. Selon la pensée théologique d’Oscar Cullmann, la victoire de Dieu est déjà complète et se manifeste de bien des manières fragmentaires durant le temps historique qui suit la première venue de Jésus et se poursuit jusqu’à la fin des temps. A propos de cette conception, nous nous posons cependant la question suivante : quelle est la signification théologique de l’aliénation humaine et de la négativité ? La théologie du « kairos » de Paul Tillich donne à la foi eschatologique une (...) meilleure signification existentielle et sociale. Dans cette perspective, l’accomplissement de la vie éternelle n’est pas incompatible avec les éléments de négation, de situation-frontière et d’interrogation sans lesquels notre époque est proprement impensable. La dialectique de la reconnaissance héritée du Hegel de la Phénoménologie de l'Esprit est actuellement retravaillée de façon critique par de grands éthiciens. Leurs recherches visent à produire de nouveaux cadres théoriques susceptibles d'accompagner positivement la mondialisation présente, dans ses développements politiques, économiques et culturels, sans tomber dans un syncrétisme destructeur des cultures et des identités et pourvoyeur de revanches archaïsantes. En cette conjoncture, la théologie chrétienne se trouve conviée elle aussi à concevoir, sur le terrain social, de nouvelles articulations (...) entre le particulier et l'universel. C'est ce à quoi se consacre cet article, qui évoque successivement la situation du monde occidental et celle de l'Afrique. Nowadays important ethicists are critically working on the dialectics of recognition inherited from Hegel's Phenomenology of the Spirit. Their research intends to produce new theoretical frameworks which can positively accompany the actual globalization, in its political, economical, and cultural developments, without falling into a destructive syncretism of cultures and identities which could inspire archaistic revanchism. In these circumstances, Christian theology is also invited to create new links between the particular and universal aspects of social life. This article, which is devoted to these questions, deals subsequently with the situations in the western world and in Africa. (shrink)

The final section on the aorist indicative in Goodwin'sMoods and Tensesidentifies the following usage: ‘In questions with τί οὐ [‘why not’], expressing surprise that something is not already done, and implying an exhortation to do it’. Other scholars identify urgency or impatience in these questions. Albert Rijksbaron writes: ‘Questions with the 1stor 2ndperson of the aorist indicative, introduced by τί οὖν οὐ or τί οὐ, often serve, especially in Plato and Xenophon, asurgent requests[original emphasis] … The aorist indicative is more (...) emphatic than the present: the speaker observes that a state of affairs which he apparently wants to occur has, in fact, not occurred, and he asks his interlocutor why it has not.’ Kühner and Gerth explain it as follows: ‘Der Redende wünscht in seiner Ungeduld gewissermassen die begehrte Handlung als eine schon geschehene zu sehen’ (‘the speaker impatiently wants, as it were, to see the desired action as one that has already been done’). They contrast allegedly less urgent examples in the present (‘der Ton der Frage ist alsdann ruhiger’, ‘the tone of the question is thereby milder’). These scholars stress the pastness of the aorist tense in communicating urgency and impatience: ‘Why have you not …?’. This remains the dominant view, regularly repeated in commentaries. (shrink)

By analising the specific use made by Thomas Aquinas of the verb ‘ostendere’ in the context of systematic philosophical conclusions as well as his presentation of biblical events and by scrutinizing the narrative strategies relative to ‘ostentatio’ (in the sense of displaying, hinting at, demonstrating) in ‘Der Saelden Hort’, a late medieval text on salvation, this paper makes clear that ostentation is a central category of mediality in the Middle Ages.

This note points out and ventures to explain the remarkable absence of both hortus, ‘garden’, and all forms of hortari, ‘urge’, in a poem that seeks to encourage the audience toward the Garden.

Wann hört eine Disziplin wie die Literaturwissenschaft auf, wissenschaftlich zu sein? Unter diktatorischen Bedingungen, wenn sie aus Zwang, aus Anpassung oder freiwillig politisch wird? War die Neuere deutsche Literaturwissenschaft während des Nationalsozialismus keine Wissenschaft, waren ihre Vertreter keine Wissenschaftler mehr? Welche Handlungsspielräume hatte das Fach überhaupt zwischen 1933 und 1945? Auf diese Fragen gibt es keine einfachen Antworten und die differenzierte Forschungslage zum Thema ist kaum noch zu überblicken. Eine methodisch reflektierte Gesamtdarstellung, die diesem Wissensstand Rechnung trägt, ohne sich in (...) ihm zu verlieren, ist somit ein Desiderat. Die Arbeit von Gerhard Kaiser bietet die erste monographische Synthese des Forschungsstands; darüber hinaus rekonstruiert und analysiert der Autor umfassend und differenziert die 'Grenzverwirrungen' zwischen Wissenschaft und Politik in der Literaturwissenschaft im Nationalsozialismus. Methodisch gesehen integriert die Studie wissenschaftssoziologische, argumentationsgeschichtliche und textanalytische Forschungsansätze sowie Ergebnisse der Wissenschafts- und Gesellschaftsgeschichte. Sie vermeidet damit zum einen die Abstraktionen einer systemtheoretischen Wissenschaftsauffassung, die zu Konkretionsdefiziten führen kann, sobald sie sich der empirisch-historischen Ebene der Wissenschaftsgeschichte zuwendet, und sie erweitert zum anderen den Fokus personalbiographischer Detailstudien. Gerhard Kaiser erhielt für dieses Buch 2008 den 'Studienpreis der Camilla-Dirlmeier-Gedächtnis Stiftung an der Universität Siegen' als Anerkennung für herausragende wissenschaftliche Leistung.
