How Closely Related Are Parent and Child Reports of Child Alexithymia?Andrew J. Lampi, Vikram K. Jaswal & Tanya M. Evans - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Alexithymia is a subclinical trait involving difficulty describing and identifying emotions. It is common in a number of psychiatric conditions. Alexithymia in children is sometimes measured by parent report and sometimes by child self-report, but it is not yet known how closely related the two measures are. This is an important question both theoretically and practically, in terms of research design and clinical practice. We conducted a preliminary study to investigate this question in a sample of 6- to 11-year-old neurotypical (...)

  16. Vague Identity: Evans Misunderstood.David K. Lewis - 1988 - Analysis 48 (3):128-130.
In his note "can there be vague objects?" ("analysis", 1978), Gareth evans presents a purported proof that there can be no vague identity statements. Some readers think that evans endorses the proof and its false conclusion. Not so. His point is that those who put vagueness in the world, Rather than in language, Will have no way to fault the proof and no way to escape the false conclusion.

    Explanation, Causality, and Counterfactuals.Evan K. Jobe - 1985 - Philosophy of Science 52 (3):357-389.
The aim of this paper is to develop an adequate version of the D-N theory of explanation for particular events and to show how the resulting D-N model can be used as a tool in articulating a regularity theory of causation and an analysis of the truth conditions for counterfactual conditionals. Starting with a basic model that is largely the product of other workers in this field, two new restrictions are formulated in order to construct a version of D-N explanation (...)

Some Recent Work on the Problem of Law.Evan K. Jobe - 1967 - Philosophy of Science 34 (4):363-381.
It is widely agreed that ‘scientific law’ is one of the key scientific terms which any adequate philosophy of science must attempt to clarify or define. The importance of the concept ‘law’ is made evident by the fact that the distinctive functions of science—explanation and prediction—are usually analyzed with reference to laws. Thus events are explained by showing that descriptions of them are deducible from laws, and laws are utilized in deducing descriptions of unknown future events, thereby permitting their prediction. Illuminating Reasoning and Categorization.Evan Heit & Brett K. Hayes - 2005 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 28 (1):27-27.
The proposal regarding rules and similarity is considered in terms of ability to provide insights regarding previous work on reasoning and categorization. For reasoning, the issue is the relation between this proposal and one-process as well as two-process accounts of deduction and induction. For categorization, the issue is how the proposal would simultaneously explain both similarity-to-rule and rule-to-similarity shifts.

    Temporal Predication and Identity.Evan K. Jobe - 1976 - Australasian Journal of Philosophy 54 (1):65 – 71.
The article attempts to resolve the problem raised by richard sharvey's arguments supporting the thesis that temporal contexts present difficulties for quantification similar to those presented by alethic modal contexts. to this end a concept of temporally relativized identity for physical objects is introduced and explicated within a four-dimensional space-time view of the world. this in turn permits the introduction of the notion of "restricted" physical objects and the notion of "extended" physical objects. it is then shown how the use (...)

A Rest From Reason: Wittgenstein, Drury, and the Difference Between Madness and Religion.K. L. Evans - 2010 - Philosophy 85 (2):245-258.
Faced with troubling professional decisions in his long and successful career as a psychiatrist, M. O'C. Drury turned for direction to the philosophical work of his teacher and friend, Ludwig Wittgenstein. Of particular concern to Drury were the situations in which psychiatrists were expected to differentiate between instances of madness that were religious in form and instances of genuine religious experience that, for their oddity, landed believers in psychiatric consulting rooms. In this essay we consider the special orientation Wittgenstein's philosophy (...)
