    Corrigibility and law.Jack Kaminsky - 1954 - Philosophy of Science 21 (1):9-15.
Corrigibility has generally been designated as the major qualification of a scientific law. Although various other characteristics of a scientific law have been questioned, corrigibility has usually been accepted as one of its essential features. On this basis scientists, positivists, and pragmatists have frequently distinguished between genuine empirical laws and all other assertions that only seem to be laws. The mark of a genuine law in the scientific sense is its corrigibility; the mark of a pseudo law is its non-corrigibility. (...)

    Can "essence" be a scientific term?Jack Kaminsky - 1957 - Philosophy of Science 24 (2):173-179.
In a recent paper Copi has argued for the admission of the term “essence” into scientific terminology. His primary reason is that the increasing adequacy of scientific theories is evidence of a gradual approximation to the real essences of things. Copi is aware that the laws of modern science are not to be taken as formulations of essences. But, he claims, “that is an ideal towards which science strives… Centuries hence wiser men will have radically different and more adequate theories, (...)

De Morgan Interpretation of the Lambek–Grishin Calculus.Michael Kaminski & Nissim Francez - 2020 - Review of Symbolic Logic 13 (4):845-856.
We present an embedding of the Lambek–Grishin calculus into an extension of the nonassociative Lambek calculus with negation. The embedding is based on the De Morgan interpretation of the dual Grishin connectives.

Ethically complex decisions in the neonatal intensive care unit: impact of the new French legislation on attitudes and practices of physicians and nurses.Micheline Garel, Laurence Caeymaex, François Goffinet, Marina Cuttini & Monique Kaminski - 2011 - Journal of Medical Ethics 37 (4):240-243.
Next SectionObjectives A statute enacted in 2005 modified the legislative framework of the rights of terminally ill persons in France. Ten years after the EURONIC study, which described the self-reported practices of neonatal caregivers towards ethical decision-making, a new study was conducted to assess the impact of the new law in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and compare the results reported by EURONIC with current practices. Setting and design The study was carried out in the same two NICU as in (...)

Hegel i Nietzsche wobec problemu polityczności.

Empirical, Mathematical, and Logical Knowledge in Hegel.Stany Mazurkievic - 2015 - Balkan Journal of Philosophy 7 (1):77-84.
This paper considers the rediscovery of Hegel currently taking place in the analytic philosophy. Going back to the Hegelian texts themselves, I will try to show how they can help to decisively solve some problems of contemporary philosophy. I will concentrate on the theme of knowledge, and especially mathematical knowledge, in relation to Hegelian dialectical logic.

Ce récit, victorieux dans la ville de Rouen, a amené une vingtaine de collectivités territoriales à préférer utiliser le site d’Échelle Inconnue pour élaborer leur code, amenant Orange (...)

    Independence in Operator Algebras.StanisŁaw Goldstein, Andrzej Łuczak & Ivan F. Wilde - 1999 - Foundations of Physics 29 (1):79-89.
Various notions of independence of observables have been proposed within the algebraic framework of quantum field theory. We discuss relationships between these and the recently introduced notion of logical independence in a general operator-algebraic context. We show that C*-independence implies an analogue of classical independence.

    Rogues : ce qu'expérimenter veut dire.Stany Grelet & Aude Lalande - 2005 - Multitudes 4 (4):181-187.
In French, the word « expérience » has two different meanings, which often merge into each other: whether one hears it as « to experience » or as « to experiment », one will take it towards lay knowledge and techniques of struggle, or towards scientific protocols and techniques of governance. This article rides on this ambiguity, putting the two sides of this notion to the service, and to the test, of an analysis of practices and policies dealing with the (...)

On undecidability of the propositional logic of an associative binary modality.Michael Kaminski - forthcoming - Archive for Mathematical Logic:1-21.
It is shown that both classical and intuitionistic propositional logics of an associative binary modality are undecidable. The proof is based on the deduction theorem for these logics.

Notions of sameness by default and their application to anaphora, vagueness, and uncertain reasoning.Ariel Cohen, Michael Kaminski & Johann A. Makowsky - 2008 - Journal of Logic, Language and Information 17 (3):285-306.
We motivate and formalize the idea of sameness by default: two objects are considered the same if they cannot be proved to be different. This idea turns out to be useful for a number of widely different applications, including natural language processing, reasoning with incomplete information, and even philosophical paradoxes. We consider two formalizations of this notion, both of which are based on Reiter’s Default Logic. The first formalization is a new relation of indistinguishability that is introduced by default. We (...)
