Résumé Le présent article analyse d’un point de vue sémiotique les rapports entre la /lumière/ et l’/obscurité/ et les catégories discursives au sein d’un corpus de quatre textes de la littérature du dix-neuvième et vingtième siècle. Il s’agit de montrer que les propriétés physiques et sensibles fondent les structures sémio-narratives et orientent les catégories axiologiques, thymiques, spatiales et temporelles. The model organism Saccharomyces cerevisiae is providing new insights into the molecular and cellular changes that are related to aging. The yeast protein Sir2p (Silent Information Regulator 2) is a histone deacetylase involved in transcriptional silencing and the control of genomic stability. Recent results have led to the identification of Sir2p as a crucial determinant of yeast life span. Dosage, intracellular localization, and activity of Sir2p all have important effects on yeast longevity. For instance, calorie restriction apparently increases yeast life (...) span by increasing Sir2p activity. Since Sir2p‐related proteins have been identified in many prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms, the fundamental principles derived from the studies in yeast may prove valuable in directing our future research toward an understanding of the mechanisms of aging in higher eukaryotes. Oe c’est à partir d’un travail subtil de proximité et de distanciation vis-à-vis de la phénoménologie hégélienneque Gadamer pense véritablement la question de l’altérité comme première dans l’acte d’interprétation. C’est depuis cette problématisation que devient également possible (...) une confrontation indirecte avec Derrida dont la portée dépasse amplement la simple opposition dialogue-écriture dans laquelle on tente trop souvent d’enfermer le débat autour de l’identité du sens et de sa différance. Car l’ecriture fait bel et bien l’objet d’une attention particulière dans l’expérience herméneutique gadamerienne.This article attempts to clarify the position, incontestably neglected, of alterity and writing in Gadamer’s hermeneutics. His incessant dialogue with Hegel offered him the possibility of insisting on the predominance of the other over any logical and dialectical apprehension. Hence it is based on a subtle work of proximity and distance in regard to Hegel’s phenomenology that Gadamer can really interrogate the question of alterity as fundamental in the action of interpretation. This problematisation makes possible a real and indirect confrontation with Derrida, whose consequences transgress the simple opposition dialogue-writing to which the debate about the identity of sense and its différance is often confined. L’enjeu de cet article est, tout d’abord, de proposer une réflexion sur l’identité telle qu’elle se voit amplement redéfinie à l’ère numérique, en l’abordant sous l’angle des questions qu’elle nous pose et qui concernent la part du secret qui vient nourrir les processus de subjectivation. Ceci dans une époque hypermoderne où les possibilités d’intervenir dans la gestion de nos données personnelles sont limitées : la multiplication des informations récoltées rend irréaliste l’exercice systématique du consentement et le contrôle par l’utilisateur, ne (...) serait-ce qu’en raison de la surcharge cognitive que cet exercice effectif exige. D’autre part, le changement de nature des moyens techniques de collecte, illustré par l’avènement des objets connectés, conduit à la démultiplication des capteurs qui collectent les données sans même que l’utilisateur puisse s’en rendre compte, comme le montre l’exemple de la vidéo-surveillance couplée à la reconnaissance faciale. Dans ces agencements machiniques, le visible se réduit à ce qui peut être saisi en données, à ce qui relève de la mise à disposition immédiate des êtres, comme si on pouvait percer leurs secrets les plus intimes. Mais au-delà des contraintes générées par les architectures numériques, les possibilités d’entrevoir de nouveaux champs de réinvention permanente de soi demeurent pleinement ouvertes et permettent de créer les conditions d’émergence d’un rapport dynamique et plus inventif au secret. The technological society, with all its potentialities in terms of well-being or improvement of daily life, is a source of many paradoxes that constitute real challenges for ethical reflection. Indeed, we have never been so free to express ourselves through information and communication technologies, while simultaneously encountering increasingly acute forms of alienation. More broadly, our current world suffers from an impoverishment of social imaginaries (if we consider the generalization of the consumerist model, identity retreats, separation logics), even though their strength (...) is essential to the fate of ethics, let alone in technological societies that are becoming more and more structurally complex. In this article, I propose to question under what conditions an act of engagement can take place for causes that escape our immediate perception (in a phenomenological way), even though our hypermodern lifestyles are ambivalent: they allow us to open up to the world through information technology, but they also close us to our own subjective spheres. In the digital age, access to information is indeed becoming more and more personalized and dependent on algorithmic recommendation logics. Dans la présente contribution, nous nous efforçons de voir comment une certaine proximité entre Félix Guattari et le philosophe japonais Tomonobu Imamichi intervient dans l’élaboration d’une pensée critique qui nous incite à interroger les fondements ontologiques de nos sociétés industrielles. Les crises écologiques que ces dernières connaissent sont d’une ampleur telle qu’elles nous imposent non seulement de réformer notre manière de produire et de consommer, mais elles nous somment également de nous pencher sur nos équilibres subjectifs. Nous devons prendre soin (...) de nos expériences sensibles, en tentant de redéfinir notre manière d’être dans le monde et d’interagir avec nos environnements technologiques. L’enjeu est de taille à l’heure où la mise en scène par les médias des problèmes environnementaux contribue le plus souvent à désorienter l’opinion publique, en générant une angoisse qui s’avère le plus souvent préjudiciable à tout exercice d’évaluation des problèmes. De plus, on s’aperçoit que la facilité avec laquelle il nous est possible d’accéder par le biais des réseaux numériques à des connaissances censées favoriser une perception plus ample des problématiques écologiques ne suffit pas à générer des comportements plus responsables. Une économie des affects est ici directement en cause, elle nous incite à redéfinir les conditions de notre expérience environnementale et d’assumer sa dimension polysémique. (shrink)

CpG islands (CGIs) are regions enriched in the dinucleotide CpG; they constitute the promoter of about 60% of mammalian genes. In cancer cells, some promoter‐associated CGIs become heavily methylated on cytosines, and the corresponding genes undergo stable transcriptional silencing. Hypermethylated CGIs attract methyl‐CpG‐binding proteins (MBPs), which have been shown to recruit chromatin modifiers and cause transcriptional repression. These observations have led to the prevalent model that methyl‐CpG‐binding proteins are promoter‐proximal transcriptional repressors. Recent discoveries challenge this idea and raise a number (...) of questions. Here we discuss the following issues: what are other possible roles for the known MBPs? Why are these proteins not essential in mammals? Are there other MBPs left to discover? Could CpG methylation be nonessential? (shrink)

The BTB domain is a protein–protein interaction motif that is found throughout eukaryotes. It determines a unique tri‐dimensional fold with a large interaction surface. The exposed residues are highly variable and can permit dimerization and oligomerization, as well as interaction with a number of other proteins. BTB‐containing proteins are numerous and control cellular processes that range from actin dynamics to cell‐cycle regulation. Here, we review findings in the field of transcriptional regulation to illustrate how the high variability of the BTB (...) has allowed related transcription factors to evolve different functional abilities. We then report how recent work has showed that, in spite of their high sequence divergence and apparently unrelated functions, many BTB‐containing proteins have at least one shared role: the recruitment of degradation targets to E3 ubiquitin ligase complexes. L'ordre Maçonnique a décliné (...) tout au long du XVIIIe siècle cette utopie planétaire sur le mode d'une véritable citoyenneté de la République maçonnique avec son passeport, ses droits et ses devoirs. Puis il a dû répondre aux formidables bouleversements issus de 1789 et de l'éveil des nationalités, en s'orientant vers une conception plus engagée de la République universelle des francs-maçons, sensible aux idées libérales et à lémancipation des peuples, au risque de donner des arguments à ses détracteurs, qui lui reprochent de se rendre coupable d'un crime d'indifférenciation. The predominance of the bioethical paradigm (principalism) is measured by a comparative analysis of regional moral opinion reflected in nation-state health laws. By looking at the way the ethico-legal concept figures into various national ordinances, we attempt to ascertain the extent and nature of variation (if any) between localities by exploring the understanding and application of principalism’s (...) keystone: patient autonomy.
