Desde más de diez años se habla de libro electrónico, e-text, eBook y de competencias digitales como sean las mismas cosas, en contenidos, usos, aplicaciones. A partir de Prensky en el 2001 ha empezado el nuevo “miedo”, como ya había explicado McLuhan en los años Setenta, así de este año los educadores, profesores, editoriales y escritores piensan que las maquinas ganaran sus competencias y profesionalidad. La investigación sobre este tema, ya se ha cerrado con unos primeros resultados con jóvenes estudiantes (...) de educación primaria. Se ha realizado un cuestionario único en su genero, y eficaz para evaluar los nativos digitales del siglo XXI. El tema explorado es lo del uso y conocimiento de los eBooks en un entorno educativo, valorando la aplicación efectiva de los media electrónicos, y del interés que capturan en los nuevos lectores digitales. A partir de la metodología propia de la teoría de Bloom (1956), el cuestionario, y la entera investigación gravitan en el área de la educación y del aprender a ser (Rosati, 2004) para evaluar los nuevos medios electrónicos. Se ha logrado averiguar cuanto esta difundido, y sobre todo entendido el uso de las nuevas herramientas para leer, y el posible desarrollo de nuevas formas de lecturas y escrituras (Martos-Núñez y Campos Fernández-Fígares, 2013) en área pedagógica y educativa. Los resultados obtenidos permiten leer la realidad de los nativos con una mirada critica, razonable, y competente a nivel tecnológico. La investigación permite desarrollar nuevas ideas educativas, y modelos de aprendizaje a través de la tecnología electrónica, que sigue modificando las costumbres de los varios actores de la realidad educativa, y logrando un cambio del complejo tejido narrativo-textual. This article considers how markers of place function differently in the print book ecosystem vs. the ebook ecosystem, using books associated with Australia and Western Australia as a case study. Although book historians have mostly failed to engage with ebooks as subject matter, they have considered in some detail the way in which markers of place function in the print book ecosystem. By surveying the scholarly output of book historians working with mapping technologies, it is possible to conclude that, (...) in the print book ecosystem, there exist a handful of markers identifying the following categories: places associated with a book’s setting, its author, its publication, its purchase, and its marketing and publicity. The latter three markers look substantially different in the ebook ecosystem than in the print book ecosystem. Furthermore, in the ebook ecosystem, changes to these three markers can mediate setting and author as markers of place. (shrink)

The purpose of this study was to investigate experimentally the extent to which children’s novel word learning and story comprehension from eBooks depends on the relevance of interactive eBook features. A story was created in the lab to incorporate novel word-object pairs. The story was read to preschoolers (3-5 years old, N = 103) using one of the three books: noninteractive control, interactive-relevant, interactive-irrelevant. Novel word learning and story comprehension were assessed with posttests in which children picked target objects (...) from an array and sorted story events into sequences, respectively. Findings indicate that word learning and story comprehension were similar across all three books, suggesting that simple interactive features – whether relevant or irrelevant to the story – had little impact on learning in this controlled experiment. Forcehimes argues that any argument concerning copyright law which favours the existence of public libraries will necessarily also justify the downloading of ebooks without the copyright owners’ authorisation. As the justification for copyright protection is an economic one, it is submitted that, economically, there is a material difference between permitting public libraries making physical books available and allowing such online distribution of ebooks. Prohibiting the online distribution of ebooks without the copyright holders' consent, while permitting access to (...) physical books via public libraries, is a policy which, at present, is consistent with the rationale for copyright protection. Developmental research typically relies on face-to-face testing at laboratories, childcare centers, museums or playgroups. Current social distancing measures have led to a halt in research. Although face-to-face interaction is considered essential for research involving young children, current technology provides viable alternatives. This paper introduces an accessible, replicable and easy to follow method to conduct online developmental research with young children employing a word-learning task as an exemplar, including a detailed workflow and step-by-step guide to using easily accessible programs and platforms. (...) Four-year-old children's performance on a word-learning task delivered online vs. face-to-face is provided as a method validation. Children's performance on the word-learning task was predominantly consistent across delivery modes, with only slight variation in performance between modes. The implications of these similar results across face-to-face and online methods are discussed alongside avenues for further research. Importantly, this paper presents an emerging methodological approach for the online administration of developmental science both within and beyond the COVID-19 pandemic, adding a new tool to current and future developmental scientist's toolkits.
