Positive and Negative Corporate Social Responsibility, Financial Leverage, and Idiosyncratic Risk.Saurabh Mishra & Sachin B. Modi - 2013 - Journal of Business Ethics 117 (2):431-448.
Existing research on the financial implications of corporate social responsibility (CSR) for firms has predominantly focused on positive aspects of CSR, overlooking that firms also undertake actions and initiatives that qualify as negative CSR. Moreover, studies in this area have not investigated how both positive and negative CSR affect the financial risk of firms. As such, in this research, the authors provide a framework linking both positive and negative CSR to idiosyncratic risk of firms. While investigating these relationships, the authors (...)

Sarbanes–Oxley Section 406 Code of Ethics for Senior Financial Officers and Firm Behavior.Saurabh Ahluwalia, O. C. Ferrell, Linda Ferrell & Terri L. Rittenburg - 2018 - Journal of Business Ethics 151 (3):693-705.
Sarbanes–Oxley Section 406 requires a code of ethics for top financial and accounting officers in public companies. The objective of this research is to discover the impact of a financial code of ethics on firm behavior. We performed a longitudinal tracking of firm adoption of a financial code of ethics starting in 2005. We checked these companies’ codes again in 2011 to confirm their continued implementation. Financial restatements were used as a dependent variable to measure improved financial reporting after the (...)

Synthesis and Transcendental Ego: A Comparison of Kant and Husserl.Saurabh Todariya - 2020 - Journal of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research 37 (2):265-277.
The paper deals with the notion of synthesis and transcendental ego in Kant and Husserl. It will argue that the actual difference between Kant and Husserl’s notion of transcendental ego can be understood through their conception of time. Kant accepts transcendental ego as the kind of logical necessity for synthesizing the various temporal units which provides unity to the consciousness. However, Husserl discards the necessity of transcendental ego by giving the phenomenological interpretation of time as internal time consciousness. The interpretation (...)

An Efficient Weakly Supervised Approach for Texture Segmentation Via Graph Cuts.Arnav V. Bhavsar - 2013 - Journal of Intelligent Systems 22 (3):253-267.
We propose an approach for texture segmentation based on weak supervised learning. The weak supervision implies that the user marks only a single small patch for each class in the input image. These patches are used for training. We employ the method of graph cuts for the segmentation task. Our work demonstrates that even under such weak training, texture segmentation can be achieved efficiently and with good accuracy via graph cuts. Moreover, our approach uses a simpler feature representation than that (...)

Energy Decisions Within an Applied Ethics Framework: An Analysis of Five Recent Controversies.Jacob Bethem, Giovanni Frigo, Saurabh Biswas, C. Tyler DesRoches & Martin Pasqualetti - 2020 - Energy, Sustainability and Society 10 (10):29.
Everywhere in the world, and in every period of human history, it has been common for energy decisions to be made in an ethically haphazard manner. With growing population pressure and increasing demand for energy, this approach is no longer viable. We believe that decision makers must include ethical considerations in energy decisions more routinely and systematically. To this end, we propose an applied ethics framework that accommodates principles from three classical ethical theories—virtue ethics, deontology, consequentialism, and two Native American (...)

Improving Fault Delineation Using Maximum Entropy Multispectral Coherence.Bin Lyu, Jie Qi, Saurabh Sinha, Jianjun Li & Kurt J. Marfurt - 2020 - Interpretation 8 (4):T835-T850.
Knowledge of fault geometry plays an important role in reservoir modeling and characterization. Seismic attributes, such as volumetric dip, coherence, and curvature, provide an efficient and objective tool to extract fault geometry attributes. Traditionally, we use noise-attenuated full-bandwidth seismic data to compute coherence followed by smoothing, sharpening, and skeletonization. However, different stratigraphic reflectors with relatively similar waveforms and amplitudes juxtaposing across a fault will algorithmically appear to be continuous, with the resulting fault image being broken. This leads to pseudo fault (...)
