After reviewing the criticisms addressed against the possibility of fulfilling that demand, I suggest that Hegelrsquo;s demand of presuppositionless thinking could be understood as (...) a transformation ofnbsp; Kantrsquo;s transcendental philosophy .nbsp; That explanation will allow us to suggest that the demand of presuppositionless thinking works as the recognition of a gathering in which the ldquo;meaningrdquo; is both unified and dispersed. In base to that idea, it will be explained why most of the interpretations which emphasizes the social character of reason as the key to account the development of Hegelrsquo;s philosophy fail to recognize that presuppositionless ground.nbsp; So, it will be concluded that the sociality of reason must be understood as a determination reason gives itself through its self-situating in the field of meaning. br //span/span/span. Este artigo trata da possibilidade de renovar o entendimento da eugenia no mundo contemporâneo. A biologia e a genética são fontes científicas da eugenia, mas não fazem parte de seu núcleo filosófico. Essa é a razão pela qual vemos a ontologia subjacente à eugenia como nossa principal preocupação. O estatuto da eugenia como uma prática está mudando rapidamente e a vida é tanto o objeto como a dimensão oculta dessa mudança. Entendida por meio da história dos seres, a dispersão da (...) ontologia permite um entendimento renovado tanto da humanidade quanto da animalidade. Como se pode entender que uma ciência completamente reconhecida no início do século XX se tenha tornado uma prática silenciosa no século XXi? A disseminação das novas técnicas genéticas e a discrição atual acerca da eugenia parecem estar ligadas ao avanço de sua reabilitação. Ainda estamos em um estágio inicial de nosso entendimento da genética humana. Não há razão para pensar que esse conhecimento não será explorado pela eugenia. A plasticidade de nossa condição humana encontra nisso uma de suas possibilidades. This article is about the possibility of renewing the understanding of eugenics in contemporary world. Biology and genetics are scientific resources of eugenics, but they are not alone at its philosophical core. This is the reason why we regard the ontology behind eugenics as our main concern. The status of eugenics as a practice is rapidly changing, and life is both the object and the hidden dimension of this change. Understood through the history of being(s), ontology's dispersion allows a renewed understanding of both humanity and animality. How can we understand that a fully recognized science at the beginning of the twentieth century became a silent practice of the twenty-first century? The dissemination of new genetic techniques and today's discretion with respect to eugenics appear to be connected within steps towards its rehabilitation. We are still at an early stage of our understanding of human genetics. There's no reason to think that such knowledge will not be explored through eugenics. After all, the plasticity of our human condition finds in it one of its possibilities. (shrink)

Ces notions ne sont plus simplement le domaine d’un collectif de juristes nord-américains, mais font désormais partie du discours académique transnational et influencent la formation de divers projets et demandes politiques, malgré leur impact négligeable sur la pratique juridique traditionnelle. Les mouvements de type féministe, racial, LGBTQ+ et postcolonialiste ont profité largement de l’énergie intellectuelle et de l’engagement inhérent à ses analyses critiques. With these two perspectives Hegel seeks to open the path towards speculative thinking where subject and object find their final identity and towards the ‘sublating’ (aufheben) of Religion into Philosophy in the threefold sense of suppressing, elevating and preserving it. O objetivo deste artigo é promover um balanço crítico da medievalística brasileira nestas cerca de quatro décadas do seu sistemático desenvolvimento. Consideradas as primeiras iniciativas de promoção do período entre nós, passamos à avaliação da institucionalização do campo de pesquisas no Brasil, abordando as potenciais razões do seu vertiginoso crescimento. Por fim, consideramos o estatuto ontológico, epistemológico e teórico do estudo da Idade Média, centradas na crítica de vertentes hoje hegemônicas no campo em questão, dominado por posições que constituem a (...) historiografia como uma prática pseudocientífica que reduz o ofício do medievalista a uma enfadonha paráfrase das fontes de outrora. O presente trabalho concentra-se no exame das concepções de saúde e de moléstia do médico paranaense Nilo Cairo (1874-1928).Através da contextualização do pensamento de Nilo Cairo, e de suaanálise interna, buscamos compreender a relação entre este médico, o vitalismo e a homeopatia, inseridos num contexto onde a ascensão da teoria microbiana das doenças e da medicina de laboratório era algo hegemônico. Apoiados em Georges Canguilhem e nas fontes empíricas, propomos uma longa duração do vitalismo, corrente esta que surge em meados (...) do século XVII, estendendo-se até pelo menos o século XX, como podemos evidenciar neste trabalho. Nossa abordagem se caracteriza não só pelo enfoque interno como também social da História das Ciências. Mediante a epistemologia de Canguilhem, de seu diálogo com Thomas Kuhn, com teses de doutorado defendidas no Brasil, e com as fontes empíricas, buscamos a compreensão de uma possível resistência do pensamento vitalista e sua coexistência com os paradigmas hegemônicos das ciências médicas ocidentais. Pensamentoscomo o de Nilo Cairo podem ser considerados evidências que refutam a noção de uma ciência que evolui linearmente e de formaunidimensional. (shrink)

Este artigo discorre sobre as proposições do homem de ultrapassar o que lhe é visível, de apropriar-se da informação por meio da mediação de sujeitos e dispositivos, apontando para questões epistemológicas que nos séculos XX e XXI têm sido levantadas sobre a imagem fotográfica. Traz conceitos e teorias que, no campo da Ciência da Informação, voltadas para a mediação da informação e seus suportes, dentre eles a fotografia, são revistas por força de modalidades e novas práticas de comunicação possibilitadas pelas (...) tecnologias. Aborda aspectos da relação mantida pela fotografia com a cultura, sua função e usos sociais. Apropriando-se do método heurístico, elege como objeto empírico imagens de objetos da casa do escritor Jorge Amado, registradas no livro Rua Alagoinhas 33, Rio Vermelho. As etapas de identificação, numeração e resumo possibilitaram a desmontagem visual das imagens, a criação de grupos temáticos e a sua remontagem verbal, comprovando que as imagens fotográficas, como dispositivo e fonte de informação, podem ser consideradas um elemento de mediação, cuja leitura e interpretação sinalizam para as relações socioculturais construídas pelos sujeitos e viabilizam a criação de novas narrativas. When a circular coin is rotated in depth, is there any sense in which it comes to resemble an ellipse? While this question is at the center of a rich and divided philosophical tradition (with some scholars answering affirmatively and some negatively), Morales et al. (2020, 2021) took an empirical approach, reporting 10 experiments whose results favor such perspectival similarity. Recently, Burge and Burge (2022) offered a vigorous critique of this work, objecting to its approach and conclusions on both philosophical (...) and empirical grounds. Here, we answer these objections on both fronts. We show that Burge and Burge’s critique rests on misunderstandings of Morales et al.’s claims; of the relation between the data and conclusions; and of the philosophical context in which the work appears. Specifically, Burge and Burge attribute to us a much stronger (and stranger) view than we hold, involving the introduction of “a new entity” located “in some intermediate position(s) between the distal shape and the retinal image.” We do not hold this view. Indeed, once properly understood, most of Burge and Burge’s objections favor Morales et al.’s claims rather than oppose them. Finally, we discuss several questions that remain unanswered, and reflect on a productive path forward on these issues of foundational scientific and philosophical interest. (shrink)

INDIVIDUALITY has given philosophers considerable trouble. There are conflicting views as to how to understand it and even as to its intelligibility in spite of what appears to be its fundamental character in our experience. For, on the one hand, we seem to experience the world in terms of individuals, but when we try to explain what their individuality is we run into difficulties. Indeed, even a view which at first sight appears quite innocuous, defining individuality formally as a feature (...) which characterizes individuals as individuals, is strongly rejected by many. They argue that individuality cannot be a feature at all in the strict sense of the word, since its being a feature would presuppose that something else could share on it or have it, and that seems to contradict the very notion of individuality. At any rate, this is of no concern to us presently since it is an issue which pertains to the ontological status of individuality rather than its intension. It suffices to point out for the moment that there is ample disagreement concerning the proper understanding of individuality. (shrink)

The Greens are the political group in which the support for the implementation of a basic income is stronger. Nevertheless, the reasons for that support are not always clear and quite often not related to environmental issues. For this reason, two different approaches to a green BI – environmental and ecological – are discussed in this article. The first could be part of a green growth strategy, whereas the second would require structural changes to the economic model, in support of (...) a post-productivist economy. Although showing some overlaps, these models are in conflict in some central aspects, such as the role of economic growth in promoting sustainability. For this reason, it might be incorrect to assume that an environmental BI is a step toward an ecological BI. We will focus on the green aspects as a consequence of implementing a BI and independently of its sources of funding – namely by looking into the amount a BI needs to be in order to support shifting activities from the market to the autonomous sphere – and on the green potential of its sources of financing. The ultimate utility of science is widely agreed upon: the comprehension of reality. But there is much controversy about what scientific understanding actually means, and how we should proceed in order to gain new scientific understanding. Is there a method for acquiring new scientific knowledge? Is this method unique and universal? There has been no shortage of proposals, but neither has there been a shortage of skeptics about these proposals. This article proffers for discussion a potential scientific method that aspires (...) to be unique and universal and is rooted in the recent and ancient history of scientific thinking. Curiously, conclusions can be inferred from this scientific method that also concern education and the transmission of science to others. (shrink)

I argue for the view that the scientific model which Plato consistently had in mind when sharpening his main ethical theory was medicine. Moreover, I ascribe to Plato a “medical model of ethics”. A careful examination of this model reveals how Plato appropriates several medical concepts and ideas by employing two central methodological devices in his thought: dialectical transposition and analogical characterisation. In discussing them, I identify different kinds of medical references in the dialogues –not all medical references in Plato (...) have the same methodological status– and draw greater attention to the most recurrent medical analogies in them. More generally, the paper is also meant to provide a case study of the complex relationship between medicine and philosophy in Antiquity by examining in a new light the various ways in which the former served as an epistemological and ethical model for the latter. This article discusses what could be called “the adventure of translating” Sein und Zeit in Spanish. It argues that every translation is an adventure, and particularly the translation of a philosophical text. A translation does not literally reproduce into another language what an author or philosopher affirms. The question is instead to express it in the most accurate form with the resources of the translator’s language, in such a way that the text may sound as if it was written in (...) the language to which it is to be translated. This article refers to the very long route that the author had to go over in order to make Sein und Zeit “speak” a good and clear Spanish. (shrink)

Guiado pela investigação lógica e buscando sistematicamente denunciar e desfazer anacronismos, este discreto estudo questiona a tradução mais recorrente do verbete grego agathos, isto é, “Bom/Bem”, e, confirmando sua limitação e, em alguns casos, sua total inaplicabilidade, propõe “sentir-se bem” como tradução correta. De fato, uma vez testada a nova semântica nos textos aqui estudados, confirmou-se ser ela a mais apropriada e verdadeira.

From Jean-Luc Marion’s examination of Gustave Courbet and his painting, it is shown how grief can operate as a model for the hermeneutics of love. This hermeneutics of grief, in turn, makes possible a consideration of all phenomena, and not only the human, as saturated phenomena.

We will try to critically examine the processes of constructing a new legal framework which were begun in some Andean states during recent decades and which are characterised by the recognition of the multinational, multiethnic and intercultural character of the Republics, framed hitherto within the homogenising parameters of the creole and mestizo state. These processes have in turn led to the recognition of the rights of the original indigenous peoples and, subsequently, to the establishment of indigenous law with a special (...) jurisdiction. However, this new horizon, despite the fact that it represents a project which is eminently decolonial in many respects, is not without contradictions, frictions or limitations. A scenario of radical legal plurality would lessen the possibility of establishing a common citizenship framework. There are therefore many anthropological, political, legal and philosophical aspects which should be analysed and discussed so as to shed some light on this important issue. (shrink)

Este texto se recomprende la noción escolástica de verdad como adecuatio intellectus et rei a la luz de la la interpretación heideggeriana como ¿develación¿. Para ello se siguen tres momentos al hilo de tres preguntas: ¿en qué consiste esta adecuación?, ¿en qué sentido el intelecto y la cosa pensda se parecen? y ¿cuál es la esencia de la verdad?

El trabajo analiza las tablas de verdad de la equivalencia en cálculos de enunciados tetravalentes y en la silogística asertórica. Se presentan sus tablas de verdad y la de la silogística asertórica tetravalente de Aristóteles y aspectos aparentemente "contraintuitivos" entre éstas. Para este análisis se toman en cuenta las diferencias entre los valores de verdad fundamentales y derivados, distinguidos y no distinguidos. Para la falsedad simple (siguiendo a Öffenberger) se adopta la tripartición que resulta del análisis de las falacias pars (...) pro toto y totum pro parte. (shrink)

1919 es un año clave en la trayectoria filosófica de Martin Heidegger. Recién designado como docente asistente de Husserl en la Universidad de Friburgo, Heidegger comienza a trabajar en dos proyectos que se dan en paralelo: la "transformación hermenéutica de la fenomenología" y el desarrollo de una fenomenología de la religión, que, en un principio, está centrada en el estudio de la mística medieval. El diálogo de ida y vuelta entre ambos proyectos produce las más importantes ideas de la filosofía (...) heideggeriana temprana. Este artículo se propone sostener que la lectura de ciertos autores místicos fue determinante para su reinterpretación de la fenomenología. Heidegger se apropia de la Hingabe mística dándole un sentido técnico de extrema importancia en su metodología fenomenológica. 1919 is a key year in Martin Heidegger's philosophical path. Recently appointed as Husserl's assistant professor at the University of Freiburg, Heidegger begins to work on two projects that occur in parallel: the "hermeneutical transformation of phenomenology" and the development of a phenomenology of religion, which initially focuses on the study of medieval mysticism. The back and forth dialogue between the two projects produces the most important ideas of Heidegger's early philosophy. This article aims to argue that the reading of certain mystical authors was determinant for his reinterpretation of phenomenology. Heidegger appropriates the mystical Hingabe by giving it a technical sense of extreme importance in his phenomenological methodology. (shrink)
