Zusammenfassung:Ausgehend von der philosophischen Grundhaltung Kants, dass jedes System von empiri‐schen Urteilen – jede empirische Theorie – seine epistemologische Grundlage in einem System von synthetischen Sätzen, die hierfür apriorisch akzeptiert werden, hat, wird eine Axiomatisierung der Mechanik bis hin zum Impulsbegriff nach H. Hermes dargestellt. Dieses System von Axiomen veyendet als Grundbegriffe lediglich den der reellen Zahlen, den des Bezugssystem, der den Übergang zum mathematischen Raum ermöglicht, und den der Genidentität, der das stetige Fortschreiten von Materiepunkten beschreibt.Das System von Hermes (...) wird als eine mogliche Métaphysik der Mechanik gesehen; somit wird der Fundamentalismus Kants bezüglich der Einzigkeit eines solchen Systems abgelehnt. According to Plato, thinking is the communicating of the mind with itself.1 This is also my view, not because this was asserted by Plato, but since this is part of my own experience.

This is the first volume compiling English translations of Leibniz's journal articles on natural philosophy, presenting a selection of 26 articles, only three of which have appeared before in English translation. It also includes in full Leibniz's public controversies with De Catelan, Papin, and Hartsoeker. The articles include work in optics, on the fracture strength of materials, and on motion in a resisting medium, and Leibniz's pioneering applications of his calculus to these issues by construing them as mini-max and inverse (...) tangent problems. Other topics covered by the articles include: criticisms of the Cartesian estimate of motive force and Leibniz's proposal of a different way of estimating force to replace it; a proposed theory of celestial motions and gravitation, and derivation of the inverse square law; challenge problems concerning the isochronous curve and the catenary; a sample of work on gaming theory; and Leibniz's critique of atomism. These three reflections look at the theological and ethical implications of sexual violence in light of the attention brought by #MeToo. The first explores ethnographic interviews which indicate that Church leaders, teachers, and parents contribute to rape culture by leaving sexual violence unaddressed in Christian sexual education, arguing that it must be reconstructed to eliminate the Church’s participation in a culture that promotes gender-based violence. The second notes that feminist scholarship has made the case that rape and “unjust sex” are (...) associated with what is considered acceptable heterosexuality, require the category of “cultural sin” to account for the social responsibility of persons. Finally, the third explores how a feminist political theological ethics of “dangerous memory” is required to critique of the structures and systems that violate women’s selves and bodies. (shrink)
