    Domain-specific and domain-general processes in social perception – A complementary approach.John Michael & Alessandro D’Ausilio - 2015 - Consciousness and Cognition 36 (C):434-437.
In this brief discussion, we explicate and evaluate Heyes and colleagues’ deflationary approach to interpreting apparent evidence of domain-specific processes for social percep- tion. We argue that the deflationary approach sheds important light on how functionally specific processes in social perception can be subserved at least in part by domain-general processes. On the other hand, we also argue that the fruitfulness of this approach has been unnecessarily hampered by a contrastive conception of the relationship between domain- general and domain-specific processes.

Machiavelli and political conspiracies: the struggle for power in the Italian Renaissance.Alessandro Campi - 2018 - New York: Routledge, Taylor & Francis Group. Edited by Niccolò Machiavelli.
The theme of conspiracies plays a key role in Machiavelli's writings, in which can be found considerations and analyses on the use of conspiracy as an instrument of conquest of power, and as a technique for political fighting. This volume denies an interpretation in which Machiavelli limited himself to warning against conspiracies, judging them as a dangerous and useless tool. In reality, he elaborated a real phenomenology or anatomy of the conspiracy. His thoughts on this theme represent a practical manual (...)

Performing Flights: Perspectivism and Shamanic Epistemology in the Amazon.Alessandro Gonçalves Campolina - 2022 - Process Studies 51 (2):169-184.
Alfred North Whitehead famously compares the philosophical method of knowledge acquisition with the process of flying an airplane. Likewise, “shamanic flight” marks stages of cognitive processing in navigation through perceptible and imperceptible worlds. This article focuses on the cosmovision of the Amazon people Huni Kuin, the Whiteheadian method of imaginative rationalization, and the concept of Amerindian perspectivism. This study also investigates shamanism as an experience of knowledge generation. Furthermore, “shamanic flight,” as an ecstatic technique experienced in many diverse Amerindian rituals, (...)

Whiteheadian concepts of life, food, "empty" and "occupied space" provide a theoretical basis to unpack an ontogenetic perspective on aging. Focusing on the so-called "Selective Optimization with Compensation " strategy, this work will explore this concept in relation to some scientific evidence in the fields of "epigenetics " and molecular nutrition. Further, the role of caloric restriction in health and longevity will be discussed as a SOC strategy, based on the metabolic theory of aging. SOC strategy applied to the processes (...)

  15. LTL model checking for security protocols.Alessandro Armando, Roberto Carbone & Luca Compagna - 2009 - Journal of Applied Non-Classical Logics 19 (4):403-429.
Most model checking techniques for security protocols make a number of simplifying assumptions on the protocol and/or on its execution environment that greatly complicate or even prevent their applicability in some important cases. For instance, most techniques assume that communication between honest principals is controlled by a Dolev-Yao intruder, i.e. a malicious agent capable to overhear, divert, and fake messages. Yet we might be interested in establishing the security of a protocol that relies on a less unsecure channel (e.g. a (...)

    The genesis of the creative experience in C. S. Peirce.Alessandro Ballabio - 2019 - Cognitio 19 (2):220-226.
Nesse sentido, a abdução é o hábito lógico (...)

Wittgenstein and Aesthetics: Perspectives and Debates.Alessandro Arbo, Michel LeDu & Sabine Plaud (eds.) - 2012 - De Gruyter.
Wittgenstein has written a great number of remarks relevant to aesthetical issues: he has questioned the relation between aesthetics and psychology as well as the status of our norms of judgment; he has drawn philosophers attention to such topics as aspect-seeing and aspect-dawning, and has brought insights into the nature of our aesthetic reactions. The examination of this wide range of topics is far from being completed, and the purpose of this book is to contribute to such completion. It gathers (...)

Sulle tracce di un’ontologia del “noi”. Il contributo di Heribert Mühlen.Alessandro Clemenzia - 2020 - Isidorianum 28 (56):187-218.

Does Imply, Uniformly?Alessandro Andretta & Lorenzo Notaro - forthcoming - Journal of Symbolic Logic:1-25.
The axiom of dependent choice ( $\mathsf {DC}$ ) and the axiom of countable choice ( ${\mathsf {AC}}_\omega $ ) are two weak forms of the axiom of choice that can be stated for a specific set: $\mathsf {DC} ( X )$ asserts that any total binary relation on X has an infinite chain, while ${\mathsf {AC}}_\omega ( X )$ asserts that any countable collection of nonempty subsets of X has a choice function. It is well-known that $\mathsf {DC} \Rightarrow (...)

Phenomenal Consciousness and the Sensorimotor Approach. A Critical Account.Dell’Anna Alessandro & Paternoster Alfredo - 2013 - Open Journal of Philosophy 3 (4):435.
The paper discusses some recent suggestions offered by the so-called sensorimotor (or enactivist) theorists as to the problem of the explanatory gap, that is, the alleged impossibility of accounting for phenomenal consciousness in any scientific theory. We argue in the paper that, although some enactivist theorists’ suggestions appear fresh and eye-opening, the claim that the explanatory gap is (dis)solved is much overstated.

Minimalismo e Rave music attraverso Adorno.

How to win some simple iteration games.Alessandro Andretta & John Steel - 1997 - Annals of Pure and Applied Logic 83 (2):103-164.
We introduce two new iteration games: the game , which is a strengthening of the weak iteration game, and the game , which is somewhat stronger than but weaker than the full iteration game of length ω1. For a countable M elementarily embeddable in some Vη, with two players I and II, we can show that II wins and that I does not win.

Classes or Individuals? The Paradox of Systematics Revisited.Alessandro Rapini - 2004 - Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part C: Studies in History and Philosophy of Biological and Biomedical Sciences 35 (4):675-695.
The circumscription of taxa and classification of organisms are fundamental tasks in the systematization of biological diversity. Their success depends on a unified idea concerning the species concept, evolution, and taxonomy; paradoxically, however, it requires a complete distinction between taxa and evolutionary units. To justify this view, I discuss these three topics of systematics. Species concepts are examined, and I propose a redefinition for the Taxonomic Species Concept based on nomenclatural properties, in which species are classes conventionally represented by a (...)

The discussion about the uses of the concept “musical object” highlights the difficulties of the project – put forward by Pierre Schaeffer (1966) – of basing its definition on the idea of “objet sonore”. Moreover, the proposal to assimilate the functions of the “objet sonore” to those fulfilled by a “musical work” turns out to be no less problematic. A new definition is proposed: a musical object is a social object resulting from the inscription of perceived sound(s), or of the (...)

Some remarks on “hearing-as” and its role in the aesthetics of music.Alessandro Arbo - 2009 - Topoi 28 (2):97-107.
Starting from the context in which Wittgenstein thinks of the concepts of “seeing-as” and “hearing-as”, the basic relation is clarified between the question of representation, musical understanding, and the theory of musical expressiveness. The points of views of Wollheim, Scruton, Levinson, and Ridley are discussed, in a re-consideration of the notions of hearing and understanding within Wittgenstein’s “last philosophy”.

The musical work in cyberspace: some ontological and aesthetic implications.Alessandro Arbo - 2016 - Aisthesis: Pratiche, Linguaggi E Saperi Dell’Estetico 9 (1):5-27.
The article examines some of the consequences of the migration of musical works in cyberspace, particularly with regard to their ways of being and the ways in which we listen to them. Streaming is interpreted as the last stage in the expansion of a phenomenon that arose with the advent of phonography, namely, the ubiquity and availability of the works. A new development consists in the production of musical units in modular terms: works can consist of independent parts, which can (...)

The political debate surrounding the English revolution shows how rich and complex is the scenery of the English liberties before “modern Liberty”. The ancient libertates of the Realm, the religious and commercial liberties, the liberty of the free states, and lastly the just freedom of Levellers and Diggers: all these perspectives intersect and conflict without finding any political or juridical synthesis. On the contrary, the gradual affirmation of the liberty of the moderns is accompanied by instances of political and social (...)

The multiplication of actors on the global scene displays how economics and political interdependences are plural and rooted, and how far are the States bonded to new political and economics subjects. The national space has no longer the centrality it acquired during modernity. This loss is due to the emergence of plural spaces in which the State – globalized and discontent – is forced to operate. However, the external bonds represented by this new economics of interdependences, are sided by the (...)

In this paper, we investigate the relationship between two decidable interval-based temporal description logics that have been proposed in the literature, T L-ALCF and ALCF. Although many aspects of these two logics are quite similar, the two logics suggest two rather different paradigms for representing temporal conceptual knowledge. In this paper, we exhibit a reduction from T L-ALCF concepts to ALCF concepts that serves two purposes: first, it nicely illustrates the relationship between the two knowledge representation paradigms; and second, it (...)
