    Value, Welfare, and Morality.R. G. Frey & Christopher W. Morris (eds.) - 1993 - Cambridge University Press.
This book addresses critical issues in normative ethical theory. Every such theory must contain not only a theory of motivation but also a theory of value, and the link that is often forged between what is valuable and what would be right is human welfare or well-being. This topic is a subject of considerable controversy in contemporary ethics, not least because of the current reconsideration of utilitarianism. Indeed, there is as much disagreement about the nature of value and its relationship (...)

    Value, Welfare, and Morality.Connie S. Rosati, R. G. Frey & Christopher W. Morris - 1995 - Philosophical Review 104 (4):603.
This volume contains thirteen new essays covering various issues in value theory. Eight of the essays were presented at a conference by the same name at Bowling Green State University, five others were commissioned. The essays vary in quality, and some of them cover themes developed in previously published work. But overall, each essay provides a carefully argued point of view on an important issue.

  41. One World and Our Knowledge of It: The Problematic of Realism in Post Kantian Perspective. [REVIEW]G. W. R. - 1982 - Review of Metaphysics 35 (3):629-630.
In this book the author presents an original argument for constitutive and ontological realism, developed against the backdrop of a reconstruction of Kantian philosophy. The first chapter argues that Kant does not primarily reject the epistemological principles of classical empiricism--that there are only two species of epistemic warrant possible for any judgment: logical warrants as analytic entailments and evidential warrants. Rather, Kant rejects its tacit commitment to an epistemological atomism, substituting for this a species of representational holism. The primary question (...)

    The Logic of Inconsistency. A Study in Non-Standard Possible-World Semantics and Ontology. [REVIEW]G. W. R. - 1982 - Review of Metaphysics 35 (3):627-629.
This work is a study in the new field of paraconsistent logics. The authors attempt to give a formal characterization of the notions of indeterminate possible worlds and inconsistent possible worlds. The characterization works by constructing the non-standard worlds out of combinations of standard possible worlds either by taking those statements as true in a non-standard world which are true in both of two standard worlds, which generates indeterminate worlds, or by taking those statements as true in a non-standard world (...)

    Reflection machines: increasing meaningful human control over Decision Support Systems.W. F. G. Haselager, H. K. Schraffenberger, R. J. M. van Eerdt & N. A. J. Cornelissen - 2022 - Ethics and Information Technology 24 (2).
Rapid developments in Artificial Intelligence are leading to an increasing human reliance on machine decision making. Even in collaborative efforts with Decision Support Systems (DSSs), where a human expert is expected to make the final decisions, it can be hard to keep the expert actively involved throughout the decision process. DSSs suggest their own solutions and thus invite passive decision making. To keep humans actively ‘on’ the decision-making loop and counter overreliance on machines, we propose a ‘reflection machine’ (RM). This (...)
