Innovative Stakeholder Relations: When “Ethics Pays” (and When it Doesn’t).Troy R. Harting, Susan S. Harmeling & S. Venkataraman - 2006 - Business Ethics Quarterly 16 (1):43-68.
Abstract:Business ethicists are eager to connect the ethical treatment of stakeholders with financial rewards. However, little attention has been paid to the cultural and industry context that influences how stakeholders are regarded by the firm, and how innovative strategies for engaging stakeholders can help a firm outperform its competitors. By reconnecting stakeholder theory to its roots in the field of strategy, we provide a framework for understanding the dynamic interplay between stakeholder relationships, innovation, and competitive advantage. The result is a (...)

Philosophy in experience: American philosophy in transition.Richard E. Hart & Douglas R. Anderson (eds.) - 1997 - New York: Fordham University Press.
This collection of essays aims to mark a place for American philosophy as it moves into the twenty-first century. Taking their cue from the work of Peirce, James, Santayana, Dewey, Mead, Buchler, and others, the contributors assess and employ philosophy as an activity taking place within experience and culture. Within the broad background of the American tradition, the essays reveal a variety of approaches to the transition in which American philosophy is currently engaged. Some of the pieces argue from an (...)

Annie Proulx’s Imaginative Leap: Constructing Gay Masculinity in “Brokeback Mountain”.Kylo-Patrick R. Hart - 2012 - Text Matters - a Journal of Literature, Theory and Culture 2 (2):209-220.
Non-heterosexual men have long existed on the social and cultural margins. Gay and bisexual male characters in literature, too, have done so for many generations. This essay explores the construction of gay masculinity in the short story “Brokeback Mountain” in relation to the “imaginative leap” that its author, Annie Proulx, undertook in order to conceptualize and represent this noteworthy form of marginalized otherness. It demonstrates that, despite the story’s various refreshing elements, “Brokeback Mountain” ultimately relies far too extensively on the (...)

Autobiographical Memory and Future Thinking Specificity and Content in Chronic Pain.Stella R. Quenstedt, Jillian N. Sucher, Kendall A. Pfeffer, Roland Hart & Adam D. Brown - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Chronic pain is associated with high levels of mental health issues and alterations in cognitive processing. Cognitive-behavioral models illustrate the role of memory alterations in the development and maintenance of chronic pain as well as in mental health disorders which frequently co-occur with chronic pain. This study aims to expand our understanding of specific cognitive mechanisms underlying chronic pain which may in turn shed light on cognitive processes underlying pain-related psychological distress. Individuals who reported a history of chronic pain and (...)

Educating From the Heart: Theoretical and Practical Approaches to Transforming Education.Sara Caldwell, Auriel Gray, Tobin Hart, Deb Higgins, Paul D. Houston, Joyce Kemp, Rachael Kessler, Madelyn Nash, Peter Perkins, Anthony R. Quintiliani, Donald Tinney, Deborah Thomsen-Taylor, Jessica Toulis, Ann Trousdale & Laura Weaver (eds.) - 2011 - R&L Education.
This book offers both theoretical overviews and practical approaches for educators, academics, education students and parents who are interested in transforming schools. It encourages reinvigorating approaches to learning and teaching that can easily be integrated into both public and private K-12 school classrooms, with many ideas also applicable to higher education. It supports an educational system based on the beliefs that heart and spirit are intertwined with mind and intellect, and that inner peace, wisdom, compassion, and conscience can be developed (...)

Subjective norms and social media: predicting ethical perception and consumer intentions during a secondary crisis.Meagan E. Brock Baskin, Timothy A. Hart, Akhilesh Bajaj, R. Nicholas Gerlich, Kristina D. Drumheller & Emily S. Kinsky - 2023 - Ethics and Behavior 33 (1):70-88.
When firms face crisis, the instant and open channels of social media communication create a double-edged sword. While corporations can more quickly communicate with stakeholders, any missteps will have drastic and nearly immediate repercussions. What are the relationships among social media, subjective norms, attitudes, and intentions during corporate crisis? We explore this phenomenon via a study of a crisis faced by Lowe’s, an international home improvement store, and how current and potential customers reacted. By utilizing a structural equations model to (...)

Teaching for adaptive expertise in biomedical engineering ethics.Taylor Martin, Karen Rayne, Nate J. Kemp, Jack Hart & Kenneth R. Diller - 2005 - Science and Engineering Ethics 11 (2):257-276.
This paper considers an approach to teaching ethics in bioengineering based on the How People Learn (HPL) framework. Curricula based on this framework have been effective in mathematics and science instruction from the kindergarten to the college levels. This framework is well suited to teaching bioengineering ethics because it helps learners develop “adaptive expertise”. Adaptive expertise refers to the ability to use knowledge and experience in a domain to learn in unanticipated situations. It differs from routine expertise, which requires using (...)

Slings, Donald Morrison, Terence Irwin, M. F. Burnyeat, Thomas C. Brickhouse, Nicholas D. Smith, Richard Kraut, David Bostock & Verity Harte - 2004 - Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
Plato's Euthyrphro, Apology, andCrito portray Socrates' words and deeds during his trial for disbelieving in the Gods of Athens and corrupting the Athenian youth, and constitute a defense of the man Socrates and of his way of life, the philosophic life. The twelve essays in the volume, written by leading classical philosophers, investigate various aspects of these works of Plato, including the significance of Plato's characters, Socrates's revolutionary religious ideas, and the relationship between historical events and Plato's texts.

On Being Reformed: Debates Over a Theological Identity.Matthew C. Bingham, Chris Caughey, R. Scott Clark, Crawford Gribben & D. G. Hart - 2018 - Springer Verlag.
This book provides a focus for future discussion in one of the most important debates within historical theology within the protestant tradition - the debate about the definition of a category of analysis that operates over five centuries of religious faith and practice and in a globalising religion. In March 2009, TIME magazine listed ‘the new Calvinism’ as being among the ‘ten ideas shaping the world.’ In response to this revitalisation of reformation thought, R. Scott Clark and D. G. Hart (...)
