Paths to Reducing Medical Injury: Professional Liability and Discipline vs. Patient Safety ? and the Need for a Third Way.Randall R. Bovbjerg, Robert H. Miller & David W. Shapiro - 2001 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 29 (3-4):369-380.
Too many patients are injured in the course of care. Clinicians may mistakenly cause new harm to a patient or fail to take established steps to improve the presenting condition. Medical institutions within which they work may lack mechanisms to reduce errors or prevent them from harming patients. Many, perhaps even most, injuries are preventable, probably numbering in the hundreds of thousands a year for hospital care alone. Long ignored by medical practitioners and health-care payers and little appreciated by the (...)

    Regulation of messenger RNA stability in eukaryotic cells.David J. Shapiro, John E. Blume & David A. Nielsen - 1987 - Bioessays 6 (5):221-226.
Regulation of the cytoplasmic stability of mRNAs has recetly been identified as a major control mechanism which governs mRNA levels in a variety of eukaryotic systems. It describes several games and exercises that allow children to explore various moral principles in their behavior toward others. Participating in activities that give children practice in making moral decisions helps them to appreciate the role of principles in moral reasoning. The author contends that it is important for young people to (...)

    Research in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis.David A. Shapiro - 1986 - Journal of Medical Ethics 12 (2):91-92.
Wilkinson's (1) critique of psychoanalysis and psychoanalytically oriented psychotherapy is weakened by inconsistent use of crucial terms, a systematically biased selectivity in reviewing empirical evidence and prior debates, and a failure to address issues crucial for a scientific understanding of psychotherapy.
