    CEO Hubris and Firm Pollution: A Tricky Relationship.Maximilian H. Theissen & Hubertus H. Theissen - 2020 - Journal of Business Ethics 164 (2):411-416.
This article comments on the recent study “CEO hubris and firm pollution: state and market contingencies in a transitional economy” of Zhang et al. :459–478, 2020) in this journal. We very much appreciate the valuable initiative of Zhang et al. to study the potential effect of CEO characteristics on corporate pollution. At the same time, we are concerned with the authors’ interpretation of the regression results and their operationalization of CEO hubris. We hope to contribute to the literature on managerial (...)

The Judicial Protection of Religious Symbols in Europe's Public Educational Institutions: Thank God for Canada and South Africa.Florian H. K. Theissen & Hans-Martien ThD ten Napel - 2011 - Muslim World Journal of Human Rights 8 (1).
How should judges deal with the manifestation of religious symbols in public educational institutions? In light of the important role of human rights in our legal and political system, courts should grant maximum protection under the freedom of religion or belief. The central thesis of this article is that the European Court of Human Rights fails to live up to this standard. In order to reach this conclusion, the article analyzes relevant case law of the European Court and compares its (...)

Transkulturelle Wertekonflikte: Theorie und wirtschaftsethische Praxis.Kurt Röttgers, Peter Koslowski & Hubertus Busche (eds.) - 2002 - Heidelberg: Physica-Verlag.

Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz: Monadologie.Hubertus Busche (ed.) - 2009 - Berlin: Akademie Verlag.

The following reconstruction and critical evaluation of Georg Simmel's »Philosophy of Fashion« intends to show that until today this theory offers one of the clearest and most fruitful explanations of the modern periodical change of fashion. The close meshed knitted web of psychological, social, historical und economic factors of explanation used by Simmel allows – regardless of some lacking elements – a very instructive answer to the question, as to why fashion forms such a popular cosmos, and can easily be (...)

An analysis is presented of published methods that have been used by experimenters to justify the reliability of the theory of invasion of microorganisms into cultured cells. The results show that, to demonstrate this invasion, many experimenters used two or more methods that were based on independent technical and theoretical principles, and by doing so improved the reliability of the theory. Subsequently I compare this strategy of 'multiple derivability' with other strategies, discussed in the literature in relation to the mesosome, (...)

Cells that Count: Networks of a Diagnostic Test for Bovine Mastitis.Hubertus Nederbragt - 2015 - Social Epistemology 29 (2):234-247.
Somatic cell count is a diagnostic test of milk for mastitis in cows. Its specificity and sensitivity are less than 1.0, making test results uncertain. I discuss epistemological problems of the test such as underdetermination, undercalibration and underdiscrimination, in the solution of which biomedical and economic factors may play a role. Diagnostics of the SCC should be considered as an epistemological network, functioning in a network in which farmers, veterinarians, epidemiologists and milk industry shift their position following biomedical, technological and (...)

Protocol, pattern and paper: interactive stabilization of immunohistochemical knowledge.Hubertus Nederbragt - 2010 - Studies in History and Philosophy of Science Part C: Studies in History and Philosophy of Biological and Biomedical Sciences 41 (4):386-395.
This paper analyzes the investigation of the distribution of the protein tenascin-C in canine mammary tumors. The method involved immunohistochemistry of tissue slices, performed by the application of an antibody to tenascin-C that specifically can be made visible for microscopic inspection. The first phase of the project is the making of the protocol, the second the deduction of a pattern of tenascin-C distribution in tumors and the third the writing of a paper. Each of the phases is analyzed separately, using (...)

    Lottocracy and deliberative accountability.Hubertus Buchstein - 2021 - Philosophy and Social Criticism 47 (1):40-44.
The comment on Cristina Lafont’s book includes two main points. Minipublics do not necessarily stand in opposition to political theories that justify electoral democracy and participatory conceptions of deliberative democracy. In contrast to such a view, I argue that minipublics should be combined with electoral and participatory forms of democracy. A deliberative concept of accountability may overcome some of the shortcomings of the traditional, voluntaristic concepts of democratic accountability.

    Spinoza's methodology.Hubertus Gezinus Hubbeling - 1964 - Assen,: Van Gorcum & Comp..
We have given a certain interpretation of Spinoza on the basis of an analysis of his methodology. In this study the present writer tried to restrict himself totally to this subject: viz. to give an exposition of Spinoza's methodology in its totality. He tried to give a modern approach in that he was primarily not concerned with the historical roots of Spinoza's ideas, but with the way in which these ideas function in his philosophy......
