Dostoevsky and Nietzsche: Toward a New Metaphysics of Man.I. I. Evlampiev - 2002 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 41 (3):7-32.
The theme "Dostoevsky and Nietzsche" is one of the most important for understanding the meaning of the abrupt changes that took place in European philosophy and culture at the turn of the nineteenth century. This epoch is still a puzzle: it was a flourishing period for the creative powers of European humanity and at the same time the beginning of the tragic "breakdown" of history that gave birth to two world wars and unprecedented calamities, the consequences of which Europe has (...)

    Kirillov and Christ.I. I. Evlampiev - 1999 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 38 (2):25-51.
The problem of death and immortality is one of the most intriguing and poignant themes in Russian culture. It is worth looking through this problem at the essence of "the Russian idea," which expresses the distinctive metaphysical foundations of our life and worldview rather than Russia's unique historical path. All Russian thinkers in one way or another touched upon this problem, but the deepest treatment of the conception of death and immortality, which became one of the main accomplishments of Russian (...)

Leo Tolstoy and the Search for True Christianity in Russian Philosophy.I. I. Evlampiev - 2018 - Russian Journal of Philosophical Sciences 8:90-107.
In the article the basic principles of L. Tolstoy’s teaching are singled out, which according to his critics testify to its “non-Christian” character. Among these principles, there are emphasis on personal religious experience; emphasis on the importance of reason as the main ability of man in his relationship with God; the understanding of God as an impersonal absolute embracing all that exists. The main principle of Tolstoy’s teaching is the possibility of a person’s merging with God, this leads to the (...)

L.N. Tolstoy's Principle of “Non-Resistance to Evil by Violence” in the Context of Russian Religious Philosophy of the Late XIX - Early XX Century.I. I. Evlampiev & I. Yu Matveeva - 2020 - RUDN Journal of Philosophy 24 (2):165-180.
The article discusses how the meaning of the principle of “non-resistance to evil by violence” was changing in L.N. Tolstoy's religious and philosophical teachings and how this principle was evaluated in Russian religious philosophy of the late XIX - early XX century. In the first version of Tolstoy’s teachings, set forth in the book “What is my faith?”, the principle of non-resistance was understood in a moral sense, as the norm for all people; its execution should lead to the perfection (...)

The Metaphysical Premises of the Ideology of Liberalism and Its Types.I. I. Evlampiev - 1996 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 35 (2):21-31.
The contemporary epoch has confronted our country with the problem of choosing its path of development and at the same time has placed the problem of liberalism at the center of political discussions. But at first glance there would not seem to be a problem here: since liberal principles played a decisive role in the genesis of Western society and form the basis of the modern world order, it would seem that we should accept these principles, which have passed the (...)

The Neurostructure of Morality and the Hubris of Memory Manipulation.I. I. Peter A. DePergola - 2018 - The New Bioethics 24 (3):199-227.
Neurotechnologies that promise to dampen (via pharmacologicals), disassociate (via electro-convulsive therapy), erase (via deep brain stimulation), and replace (via false memory creation) unsavory episodic memories are no longer the subject of science fiction. They have already arrived, and their funding suggests that they will not disappear anytime soon. In light of their emergence, this essay examines the neurostructure of normative morality to clarify that memory manipulation, which promises to take away that which is bad in human experience, also removes that (...)

  22. The Emergence of Authentic Human Person in Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche's Philosophy of the Superman: An Hermeneutics Approach to Literary Criticism.I. I. I. Abonado - 2014 - Iamure International Journal of Literature, Philosophy and Religion 5 (1).
The paper interprets Nietzsche’s description of authentic human person.Based on the works of Nietzsche, commentaries and philosophical interpretationsof various authors, authentic human person evolves into a superman by usingthe principles of discipline and mastery of oneself. His authenticity, however, requires persistence, courage and strength to endure many forms of sufferingsand to overcome alienation brought about by his environment. Otherwise, man would become slave of his desires or alien to his own powers, talents andcapacities. Thus, Nietzsche’s thought of superman is an invitation to (...)

    Time Deposits, Dimensions, and Fraud.I. I. Barnett & Walter E. Block - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 88 (4):711-716.
We stipulate, arguendo, that fractional-reserve-demand deposit banking is per se fraudulent. We ask whether or not time deposit banking can also be illicit, and answer in the positive, if there is a mismatch between the time dimensions of deposits and loans. To wit, if an intermediary borrows short and lends long.

Rejoinder to Bagus and Howden on Borrowing Short and Lending Long.I. I. Barnett & Walter E. Block - 2011 - Journal of Business Ethics 100 (2):229-238.
In Barnett and Block (J Bus Ethics 88(4):711–716, 2009a), the present authors claim that borrowing short and lending long is fraudulent, and thus ought to be prohibited on legal grounds. Bagus and Howden (J Bus Ethics 90(3):399, 2009) take issue with our ethical analysis. The present paper is our response to these authors; it is an attempt to defend Barnett and Block (J Bus Ethics 88(4):711–716, 2009a) against the very interesting and important, although we believe, erroneous, criticisms of Bagus and (...)

The Development of the Concept "Structure of Language".I. I. Revzin - 1969 - Russian Studies in Philosophy 8 (3):273-294.
A necessary prerequisite for application, to the humanities, of the techniques of contemporary logic, which have proven so effective in the formalization of the natural sciences, is explication of concepts, i.e., the setting up of unambiguous analogs permitting subsequent formal operations with these concepts within the confines of a clearly defined model. Today, the need for and the fruitfulness of modeling are obvious, and any explication meeting the requirements of unambiguity is therefore regarded as unquestionably a step forward. This is (...)

    Values gone wild.I. I. I. Rolston - 1983 - Inquiry: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Philosophy 26 (2):181 – 207.
Wilderness valued as mere resource for human?interest satisfaction is challenged in favor of wilderness as a productive source, in which humans have roots, but which also yields wild neighbors and aliens with intrinsic value. Wild value is storied achievement in an evolutionary ecosystem, with instrumental and intrinsic, organismic and systemic values intermeshed. Survival value is reconsidered in this light. Changing cultural appreciations of values in wilderness can transform and relativize our judgments about appropriate conduct there. A final valued element in (...)

    The politics of persons: Individual autonomy and socio-historical selves (review).I. I. I. Dunson - 2010 - Journal of Speculative Philosophy 24 (2):195-197.
After so much scholarship has been devoted to the dispute between the defenders and critics of liberalism, it is reasonable to ask whether the topic has been exhausted or, at the very least, if the rival and incommensurable options have been so thoroughly defined that one simply has to pick a side. John Christman's new book, The Politics of Persons, demonstrates that this intuition is flawed. The central concern of this compelling work is to outline an alternative conception of autonomy (...)

On the theory of measurement in quantum mechanical systems.I. I. I. Durand - 1960 - Philosophy of Science 27 (2):115-133.
This paper is concerned with the description of the process of measurement within the context of a quantum theory of the physical world. It is noted that quantum mechanics permits a quasi-classical description (classical in the limited sense implied by the correspondence principle of Bohr) of those macroscopic phenomena in terms of which the observer forms his perceptions. Thus, the process of measurement in quantum mechanics can be understood on the quasi-classical level by transcribing from the strictly classical observables of (...)

This study examines the use of a video news release in a specific story. Press coverage and editorial criticism in the case showed that journalists do not articulate sufficiently how the news owners' sway, through institutional controls, can lead to a hegemony of expedient action in the newsroom. Critical self-reflection by news workers will better enable journalists to ethically deliberate news choices that balance their responsibilities to owners, peers, and the public.
