Three different formalisations of einstein’s relativity principle.Judit X. Madarász, Gergely Székely & Mike Stannett - 2017 - Review of Symbolic Logic 10 (3):530-548.
We present three natural but distinct formalisations of Einstein’s special principle of relativity, and demonstrate the relationships between them. In particular, we prove that they are logically distinct, but that they can be made equivalent by introducing a small number of additional, intuitively acceptable axioms.

Neat reducts and amalgamation in retrospect, a survey of results and some methods Part II: Results on amalgamation.Judit Madarász & Tarek Ahmed - 2009 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 17 (6):755-802.
Introduced by Leon Henkin back in the fifties, the notion of neat reducts is an old venerable notion in algebraic logic. But it is often the case that an unexpected viewpoint yields new insights. Indeed, the repercussions of the fact that the class of neat reducts is not closed under forming subalgebras turn out to be enormous. In this paper we review and, in the process, discuss, some of these repercussions in connection with the algebraic notion of amalgamation. Some new (...)

Can War Be Just? A Case Analysis Attempt on the Russia–Ukraine War Sine Ira Et Studio.Gábor Dániel Nagy - 2023 - Open Journal of Philosophy 13 (2):407-417.
The current confrontation between Russia and Ukraine raises essential problems regarding ethics and laws of war. It also presents an opportunity to compose an ethics case study to analyze the idea of a just war. The present-day war of Russia’s aggression toward Ukraine can hardly be analyzed ethically. We lean back to the seminal ideas of just war theorists to argue that war must be waged in a manner that is consistent with moral and ethical principles, such as proportionality, discrimination, (...)

Establishing a Dignity Scale - Measuring Intrinsic Value within Social Contexts.Michael Pirson, Ralph L. Piedmont, Noemi Nagy & Donna Hicks - 2023 - Humanistic Management Journal 8 (1):97-112.
In this paper we describe the basics of the measurement of human dignity at the individual level, as well as within social contexts such as teams and organizations. In accordance with the prevailing literature, we define human dignity as the unconditional belief in the intrinsic value of life. Based on this, we established a model that understands dignity as a latent construct by evaluating personal sense of worth as well as behaviors that either violate or honor such an intrinsic value (...)

    Plac miejski – ewolucja przestrzeni publicznych na przykładzie miasta Częstochowy.Nina Sołkiewicz-Kos - 2023 - Rocznik Filozoficzny Ignatianum 29 (3):93-112.
Częstochowa to miasto o bogatej historii i czytelnej strukturze przestrzennej. Istotne miejsce zajmują w nim tereny śródmiejskie. Stanowią przestrzeń o szczególnych walorach estetycznych i funkcjonalnych. Architektura tych miejsc i kontekst urbanistyczny o szczególnej wartości historycznej, kulturowej i społecznej zobowiązują do rzetelnej analizy działań (...)

The authenticity of the Additamentum Aldinum (Sil. Pun. 8.144–223) has long been a matter of debate. While many scholars have expressed doubts that it is by Silius and suggest rather that it is from the hands of a skilful humanist, it has not, up to this time, been possible to provide solid evidence to support their intuition. This paper not only re-examines the standard arguments for and against authenticity but brings the latest computational stylometric techniques to bear on the question. (...)

The Hill equation and the origin of quantitative pharmacology.Arpad Tosaki, Bela Juhasz, Balazs Varga, Adam Kemeny-Beke, Judit Zsuga & Rudolf Gesztelyi - 2012 - Archive for History of Exact Sciences 66 (4):427-438.
This review addresses the 100-year-old Hill equation (published in January 22, 1910), the first formula relating the result of a reversible association (e.g., concentration of a complex, magnitude of an effect) to the variable concentration of one of the associating substances (the other being present in a constant and relatively low concentration). In addition, the Hill equation was the first (and is the simplest) quantitative receptor model in pharmacology. Although the Hill equation is an empirical receptor model (its parameters have (...)

The Role of Moral Foundations, Anticipated Guilt and Personal Responsibility in Predicting Anti-consumption for Environmental Reasons.Barbara Culiberg, Hichang Cho, Mateja Kos Koklic & Vesna Zabkar - 2022 - Journal of Business Ethics 182 (2):465-481.
In response to the growing importance of environmental issues, more and more consumers are turning to anti-consumption by reducing, rejecting, or avoiding consumption. Covering the intersection of sustainable consumption and anti-consumption, previous studies relied on socio-cognitive models to explain this decision. In order to extend their findings, we consider the moral and emotional perspectives to examine reducing consumption for environmental reasons in a particular context, i.e. air travel. It is against this backdrop that we propose a conceptual model that includes (...)

Four Puzzles of Reputation-Based Cooperation.Francesca Giardini, Daniel Balliet, Eleanor A. Power, Szabolcs Számadó & Károly Takács - 2022 - Human Nature 33 (1):43-61.
Research in various disciplines has highlighted that humans are uniquely able to solve the problem of cooperation through the informal mechanisms of reputation and gossip. Reputation coordinates the evaluative judgments of individuals about one another. Direct observation of actions and communication are the essential routes that are used to establish and update reputations. In large groups, where opportunities for direct observation are limited, gossip becomes an important channel to share individual perceptions and evaluations of others that can be used to (...)

    Gaia Infiltrata: The Anthroposphere as a Complex Autoparasitic System.Károly Henrich - 2002 - Environmental Values 11 (4):489-507.
This paper compares the heuristic potential of three metaphorical paired concepts used in the relevant literature to characterise global relationships between the anthroposphere and the ecosphere. Methodologically, the guiding question is whether and to what extent metaphorical theses can support an arrival at hypotheses which accurately reflect reality and possess explanatory force. The predator-prey model implies that the populations of two species in such a relationship in principle exhibit coupled oscillations, giving prey populations the possibility of periodic regeneration. For some (...)

Testing the METUX Model in Higher Education: Interface and Task Need–Satisfaction Predict Engagement, Learning, and Well-Being.Lucas M. Jeno, Åge Diseth & John-Arvid Grytnes - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 12.
The main aim of this study is to test the validity of the Motivation, Engagement, and Thriving in User Experience model in higher education. We propose a process model in which we investigate how the need-satisfaction of digital learning tools within the interface sphere and task sphere accounts for engagement, learning, and well-being. A total of 426 higher education students drawn from two subsamples participated in this cross-sectional study. A structural equation model shows that interface autonomy and competence satisfaction positively (...)

Introducing the Ko Corpus of Korean Mother–Child Interaction.Eon-Suk Ko, Jinyoung Jo, Kyung-Woon On & Byoung-Tak Zhang - 2020 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
We describe a corpus of speech taking place between 30 Korean mother–child pairs, divided in three groups of Prelexical, Early-Lexical, and Advanced-Lexical. In addition to the child-directed speech, this corpus includes two different formalities of adult-directed speech, i.e., family-directed ADS and experimenter-directed ADS. Our analysis of the MLU in CDS, family-, and experimenter-directed ADS found significant differences between CDS and ADS_Fam, and between ADS_Fam and ADS_Exp, but not between CDS and ADS_Exp. Our finding suggests that researchers should pay more attention (...)

Sin And The Experience Of Finiteness.Veress Károly - 2006 - Journal for the Study of Religions and Ideologies 5 (13):39-46.
Today’s philosophical thinking mostly deals with the problem of sin from a religious, phenomenological or ethical point of view. This paper is an attempt to find hermeneutical points of view for the possibility of an interpretation of sin which can be opened by philosophical hermeneutics with reference to our historical being, the linguistic form of experience and the experience of finitude. The train of thoughts takes us from the analysis of the concept “original sin” to the disclosure of the speculative (...)
