Psychosocial Support in Liver Transplantation: A Dyadic Study With Patients and Their Family Caregivers.Sabrina Cipolletta, Lorenza Entilli, Massimo Nucci, Alessandra Feltrin, Giacomo Germani, Umberto Cillo & Biancarosa Volpe - 2019 - Frontiers in Psychology 10:461481.
Background and aims: Liver transplantation provides an opportunity of survival for patients with liver failure, however, this procedure is known to be psychologically and physically fatiguing for patients and their informal caregivers. The aim of this study was to investigate how perceived social support and the distribution of dependency were associated with the psychological wellbeing of patients waiting for liver transplantation and their caregivers, as a dyad. Methods: The present was a cross sectional study. 95 participants were recruited at a (...)

Macchine per analogie. Note sul trattamento automatico dell’analogia.Alfio Ferrara, Massimo Parodi & Amalia Salvestrini - 2023 - Doctor Virtualis 18:51-76.

The Democratic Governance of Information Societies. A Critique to the Theory of Stakeholders.Massimo Durante - 2015 - Philosophy and Technology 28 (1):11-32.
This paper criticizes the tendency to view the extension of the class of social actors, which stems from the process of democratization of data, as also implying the extension of the class of the political actors involved in the process of governance of the Information Society. The paper argues that social actors can upgrade to political actors once they become real interlocutors, namely political actors that can participate in the formation of the political discourse and that this can happen only (...)

Sustainability reporting and corporate identity: action research evidence in an Italian retailing cooperative.Massimo Battaglia, Lara Bianchi, Marco Frey & Emilio Passetti - 2014 - Business Ethics: A European Review 24 (1):52-72.
Cooperatives are facing the challenge to be competitive in the market, without losing their traditional values of mutuality and democracy. To do that, they need to re-construct open and participative dialogue with their employees and members based on more democratic forms of communication and engagement. From this point of view, the measurement and communication of sustainability aspects may allow a dialogue to be mobilized with shareholders and stakeholders without losing the attention on competitive factors. Based on these premises, the article (...)

About the Measure of the Bare Cosmological Constant.Massimo Cerdonio - 2019 - Foundations of Physics 49 (8):830-836.
I try to revive, and possibly reconcile, a debate started a few years ago, about the relative roles of a bare cosmological constant and of a vacuum energy, by taking the attitude to try to get the most from the physics now available as established. I notice that the bare cosmological constant of the Einstein equations, which is there ever since GR emerged, is actually constrained (if not measured) indirectly combining the effective cosmological constant observed now, as given by ΛCDM (...)

Theoretical Foundations and Numerical Methods for Sparse Recovery.Massimo Fornasier (ed.) - 2010 - De Gruyter.
The present collection is the very first contribution of this type in the field of sparse recovery. Compressed sensing is one of the important facets of the broader concept presented in the book, which by now has made connections with other branches such as mathematical imaging, inverse problems, numerical analysis and simulation. The book consists of four lecture notes of courses given at the Summer School on "Theoretical Foundations and Numerical Methods for Sparse Recovery" held at the Johann Radon Institute (...)

    Leibniz and ‘Bradley’s Regress’.Massimo Mugnai - 2010 - The Leibniz Review 20:1-12.
In a text written during his stay in Paris, Leibniz, to deny ontological reality to relations, employs an argument well known to the medieval thinkers and which later would be revived by Francis H. Bradley. If one assumes that relations are real and that a relation links any property to a subject – so runs the argument – then one falls prey to an infinite regress. Leibniz seems to be well aware of the consequences that this argument has for his (...)

  11. The Hierarchical Model and H. L. A. Hart's Concept of Law.Massimo La Torre - 2013 - Revus 21:141-161.
Law is traditionally related to the practice of command and hierarchy. It seems that a legal rule should immediately establish a relation between a superior and an inferior. This hierarchical and authoritharian view might however be challenged once the phenomenology of the rule is considered from the internal point of view, that is, from the stance of those that can be said to “use” rather than to “suffer” the rules themselves. A practice oriented approach could in this way open up (...)

Can happiness be achieved by means of human will and reason or does it depend on natural conditions which escape the control of man? Is it an expression of autonomy or of heteronomy? The Enlightenment gives manifold answers to this question. Sometimes -above all in England and France -happiness is defined in terms opf pleasure and thus heteronomy is stressed; in other cases -above all in Germany -happiness is conceived as perfection, hence it is rather autonomy that is emphasized. For (...)

    La fine dell’epoca del libro. A partire da Jacques Derrida.Massimo Adinolfi - 2011 - Quaestio 11:405-427.
This contribution aims at discussing the presentation of the philosophical idea of book in Jacques Derrida, the opposition that Derrida draws between the philosophical idea of book on the one hand and writing on the other, and, above all, the ambiguous placing of Hegel in this opposition. Hegelian philosophical writing is for Derrida (and not only for him) a threshold beyond which the philosophy of the Book in its ‘total’ form is no longer possible. The aim, however, is to suggest (...)

New Advances in Causation, Agency, and Moral Responsibility.Fabio Bacchini Massimo Dell'Utri & Stefano Caputo (eds.) - 2014 - Cambridge Scholars Press.
This volume brings together a number of previously unpublished essays that will advance the reader's philosophical understanding of specific aspects of causation, agency and moral responsibility. These are deeply intertwined notions, and a large proportion of the volume is taken up by papers that shed light on their mutual connections or defend certain claims concerning them. The volume investigates several important questions, including: Can causation be perceived? If it can, can it be perceived in any way other than visually? Can (...)

    A muddled defense of New Atheism: on Stenger's response.Massimo Pigliucci - 2014 - Science, Religion and Culture 1 (1):10-14.
Victor Stenger (this issue) has responded to my recent criticism of the so-called New Athe- ism movement (2013). Here I endeavor to counter Stenger’s note and highlight several of the ways in which it goes astray. To begin with, however, let me summarize the main points of my earlier paper.

Evolution, Schmevolution.Jason Holt & Massimo Pigliucci - 2013 - In The Ultimate Daily Show and Philosophy. Oxford: Wiley. pp. 247–264.
This chapter examines the real status of the scientific theory of evolution and what people mean by intelligent design. More generally, it explores the proper relationship between science and religion, not to mention politics, in early 21st century America. These concepts are examined through the inquiring minds and sharp tongues of Jon Stewart, Lewis Black of the “Evolution, Schmevolution” series, and former Daily Show “correspondent” Ed Helms.

Giudizio e soggettività in Emil Lask.
