    Eleven Necessary Conditions for Sustainability: A Cross-Cultural Comparison.Lowell L. Klessig & John G. Hagengruber - 1999 - Journal of Human Values 5 (1):33-52.
Eleven primary social needs are defined, which if attained, fulfil the generic needs of all societies. Balanced attention to all these needs is the key to sustainability. Based on an analysis of constitutions, media content, citizen surveys, and participant observation, such balance is compared in 28 countries. The dangers of prioritization in China, Japan, the former Soviet Union, and the United States are explored in great detail. Finally, homeostatic social mechanisms designed to allocate attention to the full range of needs (...)

Everyone interested in modern literature and the western cultural heritage should read it. Lowell lectures of 1903 by Charles Sanders Peirce: a study edition.Charles Sanders Peirce - 2024 - New York: Peter Lang. Edited by Kenneth Laine Ketner.
This volume presents a study edition of the lectures delivered by Charles Peirce to the Lowell Institute in Boston in the Fall of 1903. These previously unpublished lectures present a comprehensive and revised statement of his work on the methods of science. Offering mature reflection on a lifetime's thought and work, they represent the culmination of Peirce's research on scientific objectivity. Alongside the Cambridge Conferences Lectures (1898, edited by K. L. Ketner), the Harvard Lectures on Pragmatism (1903, edited by (...)

    Contemporary Poetry, Alternate Routes.Jerome J. McGann - 1987 - Critical Inquiry 13 (3):624-647.
What is the significance of that loose collective enterprise, sprung up in the aftermath of the sixties, known as L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E Writing? To answer this question I will be taking, initially, a somewhat oblique route. And I shall assume an agreement on several important social and political matters: first, that the United States, following the Second World War, assumed definitive leadership of a capitalist empire; second, that its position of leadership generated a network of internal social contradictions which persist to this (...)

Teleological Language in the Life Sciences: Lowell Nissen.Lowell A. Nissen - 1997 - Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
In this groundbreaking new study, Lowell Nissen explores the use of teleological language in the study of subjects such as behaviorism, negative feedback, and natural selection. He argues that all existing analyses fail to explain how teleological language can be used legitimately, and provides his own analysis in terms of intentionality.

    Response to Tucker on hiddenness: J. L. SCHELLENBERG.J. L. Schellenberg - 2008 - Religious Studies 44 (3):289-293.
Chris Tucker's paper on the hiddenness argument seeks to turn aside a way of defending the latter which he calls the value argument. But the value argument can withstand Tucker's criticisms. In any case, an alternative argument capable of doing the same job is suggested by his own emphasis on free will.
