    Koncepcja wzniosłości Pseudo-Longinosa.Specht Roman - 2013 - Studia Z Historii Filozofii 4 (1):93-106.
The following article is an addendum to Reinhardt Brandt’s article included above, written for the needs of Polish readers. Brandt discusses the famous Longinus’ treatise while including its entire historic context. The substantial threads including the specifics Longinus’ piece as a treatise on the field of aesthetics that were contained in Brandt’s work have been, on the other hand, reminded in this article.

    Pojęcie wzniosłości w filozofii Kanta.Roman Specht - 2013 - Studia Z Historii Filozofii 4 (2):165-182.
The article is an attempt not only to refer again, but also interpret some pivotal elements of the concept of sublimity presented in Kant’s Critique of Judgment. Kant presented a source interpretation of the category referring to sublime phenomena of nature or simple works of art, but such delineating of the field of interest was caused by the epistemological aims of the third Critique. In this presentation I would like to widen Kant’s interpretation of the conception and add some references (...)

  3. Safety Engineering for Artificial General Intelligence.Roman Yampolskiy & Joshua Fox - 2012 - Topoi 32 (2):217-226.
Machine ethics and robot rights are quickly becoming hot topics in artificial intelligence and robotics communities. We will argue that attempts to attribute moral agency and assign rights to all intelligent machines are misguided, whether applied to infrahuman or superhuman AIs, as are proposals to limit the negative effects of AIs by constraining their behavior. As an alternative, we propose a new science of safety engineering for intelligent artificial agents based on maximizing for what humans value. In particular, we challenge (...)

  4. Die Empfindungen des Anderen. Ein Disput zwischen Cartesianer und Wittgensteinianer.E. Specht, N. Erichsen & K. Schüttauf - 1989 - Grazer Philosophische Studien 33:305-334.

Exploring solutions to the privacy paradox in the context of e-assessment: informed consent revisited.Ekaterina Muravyeva, José Janssen, Marcus Specht & Bart Custers - 2020 - Ethics and Information Technology 22 (3):223-238.
Personal data use is increasingly permeating our everyday life. Informed consent for personal data use is a central instrument for ensuring the protection of personal data. However, current informed consent practices often fail to actually inform data subjects about the use of personal data. This article presents the results of a requirements analysis for informed consent from both a legal and usability perspective, considering the application context of educational assessment. The requirements analysis is based on European Union law and a (...)

Harvesting connections: the role of stakeholders’ network structure, dynamics and actors’ influence in shaping farmers’ markets.Francesca Monticone, Antonella Samoggia, Kathrin Specht, Barbara Schröter, Giulia Rossi, Anna Wissman & Aldo Bertazzoli - forthcoming - Agriculture and Human Values:1-18.
Farmers’ markets (FMs) represent a crucial player in urban food systems, being the interconnection of local agricultural production and consumption, and serving as spaces for both economic exchange and community building. Despite their transformative potential, there is a scarcity of research that comprehensively investigates the dynamics of FMs network structure and the influence of the actors shaping FMs. The present article delves into the network of relationships within FMs in the Italian city of Bologna. This study adopts the Social Network (...)

  10. F. A. Trendelenburg and the Neglected Alternative.Andrew Specht - 2014 - British Journal for the History of Philosophy 22 (3):514-534.
Despite his impressive influence on nineteenth-century philosophy, F. A. Trendelenburg's own philosophy has been largely ignored. However, among Kant scholars, Trendelenburg has always been remembered for his feud with Kuno Fischer over the subjectivity of space and time in Kant's philosophy. The topic of the dispute, now frequently referred to as the ?Neglected Alternative? objection, has become a prominent issue in contemporary discussions and interpretations of Kant's view of space and time. The Neglected Alternative contends that Kant unjustifiably moves from (...)

  17. Models in Science (2nd edition).Roman Frigg & Stephan Hartmann - 2021 - The Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy.
Models are of central importance in many scientific contexts. The centrality of models such as inflationary models in cosmology, general-circulation models of the global climate, the double-helix model of DNA, evolutionary models in biology, agent-based models in the social sciences, and general-equilibrium models of markets in their respective domains is a case in point (the Other Internet Resources section at the end of this entry contains links to online resources that discuss these models). Scientists spend significant amounts of time building, (...)

Perception and acceptance of agricultural production in and on urban buildings : a qualitative study from Berlin, Germany.Kathrin Specht, Rosemarie Siebert & Susanne Thomaier - 2016 - Agriculture and Human Values 33 (4):753-769.
Rooftop gardens, rooftop greenhouses and indoor farms have been established or planned by activists and private companies in Berlin. These projects promise to produce a range of goods that could have positive impacts on the urban setting but also carry a number of risks and uncertainties. In this early innovation phase, the relevant stakeholders’ perceptions and social acceptance of ZFarming represent important preconditions for success or failure of the further diffusion of this practice. We used the framework of acceptance to (...)

Most scientific models are not physical objects, and this raises important questions. What sort of entity are models, what is truth in a model, and how do we learn about models? In this paper I argue that models share important aspects in common with literary fiction, and that therefore theories of fiction can be brought to bear on these questions. In particular, I argue that the pretence theory as developed by Walton (1990, Mimesis as make-believe: on the foundations of the (...)

Unintended negative outcomes on child behavior due to lockdown and home confinement following the corona virus disease pandemic needs highlighting to effectively address these issues in the current and future health crises. In this sub-study of the ODIN-study, the objectives were to determine whether the Danish lockdown and home confinement following the COVID-19 pandemic affected changes in emotional-behavioral functioning of pre-school-aged children using the validated Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire answered by parents shortly before lockdown and 3 weeks into lockdown, and (...)

Das Allgemeine Bei Locke: Konstruktion Und Umfeld.Rainer Specht - 2011 - De Gruyter.

Epoche Und Metapher: Systematik Und Geschichte Kultureller Bildlichkeit.Benjamin Specht (ed.) - 2014 - De Gruyter.
Epochs are constituted by their differentiated repertoires of knowledge and concepts, and also by distinctive metaphors. Metaphors shape the sensibility of an era and define its core ideas and style of thinking. This volume compiles essays from linguistics, literary studies, and philosophy in order to understand the genesis, structure, and function of metaphors typical of an epoch.
