Culture shock: a biblical response to today's most divisive issues.Chip Ingram - 2014 - Grand Rapids, Michigan: Baker Books, a division of Baker Publishing Group.
We live in a reactionary culture where divisive issues arise, people on either side throw stones, and everyone ends up more entrenched in their opinions than in reaching common ground--or even exhibiting common courtesy! If there ever was a time for Christians to understand and communicate God's truth about controversial and polarizing issues, it is now. Believers must develop convictions based on research, reason, and biblical truth--and be able (and willing) to communicate these convictions with a love and respect that (...)

Old Havana / la Habana Vieja: Spirit of the Living City / El Espiritu de la Ciudad Viva.Chip Cooper, Nestor Marti, Eusebio Leal Spengler, Robert Olin, Philip D. Beidler & Magda Resik Aguirre - 2012 - University Alabama Press.
Old Havana: Spirit of the Living City artistically captures the architecture, people, and daily life of La Habana Vieja through the lenses of two visionary photographers and colleagues, one American and the other Cuban. Chip Cooper and Néstor Martí began collaborating in 2008, documenting the picturesque features of the oldest and most historically rich quarter in Cuba's capital city at the behest of Eusebio Leal Spengler, the historian of the city of Havana and the director of the Habana Vieja (...)

Aristotle on the Many Senses of Priority.John J. Cleary - 1988 - Southern Illinois University.
Cleary discusses the origin, development, and use of the many senses of priority as a central thesis in Aristotle’s metaphysics. Cleary contends that one of the most revealing problems for the ambiguity of Aristotle’s relationship to Platonism is that of the ontological status of mathematical objects. In support of his claim, Cleary analyzes a curious passage from Aristotle’s _Topics, _where he appears to accept a schema of priorities that makes mathematical entities more substantial than sensible things. How (...)

The power of moments: why certain experiences have extraordinary impact.Chip Heath - 2017 - New York: Simon & Schuster. Edited by Dan Heath.
While human lives are endlessly variable, our most memorable positive moments are dominated by four elements: elevation, insight, pride, and connection. If we embrace these elements, we can conjure more moments that matter. What if a teacher could design a lesson that he knew his students would remember twenty years later? What if a manager knew how to create an experience that would delight customers? What if you had a better sense of how to create memories that matter for your (...)

Nursing expertise: a course of ambiguity and evolution in a concept.Marie Hutchinson, Mary Higson, Michelle Cleary & Debra Jackson - 2016 - Nursing Inquiry 23 (4):290-304.
In this article, we clarify and describe the nature of nursing expertise and provide a framework to guide its identification and further development. To have utility and rigour, concept‐driven research and theories of practice require underlying concepts that are robust, valid and reliable. Advancing understanding of a concept requires careful attention to explicating its knowledge, metaphors and conceptual meaning. Examining the concepts and metaphors of nursing expertise, and how they have been interpreted into the nursing discourse, we aimed to synthesise (...)

Corporate Legitimacy and Investment–Cash Flow Sensitivity.Najah Attig, Sean W. Cleary, Sadok Ghoul & Omrane Guedhami - 2014 - Journal of Business Ethics 121 (2):297-314.
This study provides novel evidence of the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on investment sensitivity to cash flows. We posit that CSR affects investment–cash flow sensitivity (ICFS) through information asymmetry and agency costs, commonly viewed as the two channels through which investment responds to the availability of internal cash flows. We find that CSR performance leads to a decrease in ICFS. We further find that ICFS decreases (increases) when CSR strengths (concerns) increase. Finally, we find that the effect of (...)

A unique dataset is exploited to provide insight into the impact of management quality practices on corporate social responsibility for a sample of US manufacturing firms. Our results suggest that MQPs are positively and significantly related to a firm’s CSR rating. This confirms that intangible assets affect corporate outcomes. We also show that superior MQPs matter more in explaining the CSR dimensions that are related directly to the firm’s primary stakeholders.

Anthropology as an Aid to Moral Science.Antonio Rosmini, Denis Cleary & Terry Watson - 1991
We cannot apply the principles of morla law and obligation without intimate knowledge of the subject - the human being, who has to act morally. This text argues that an anthropology is required to provide accurate information of human nature in its relationship to moral science if the universal principals are to be located in their total human context.

Idea Habitats: How the Prevalence of Environmental Cues Influences the Success of Ideas.Jonah A. Berger & Chip Heath - 2005 - Cognitive Science 29 (2):195-221.
We investigate 1 factor that influences the success of ideas or cultural representations by proposing that they have a habitat, that is, a set of environmental cues that encourages people to recall and transmit them. We test 2 hypotheses: (a) fluctuation: the success of an idea will vary over time with fluctuations in its habitat, and (b) competition: ideas with more prevalent habitats will be more successful. Four studies use subject ratings and data from newspapers to provide correlational support for (...)

Thomas Cleary has translated these sayings and aphorisms from the Arabic sources that preserved Greek thought throughout the Middle Ages. Many of the texts no longer exist in the original Greek.
