    Biological progress and dominance: A reply to Janet L. Travis.Maurice J. A. Glickman - 1972 - Philosophy of Science 39 (3):383-387.
In a recent article in Philosophy of Science Janet Travis [13] seeks to refute the argument for evolutionary progressivism which is based on a series of dominant life forms on the grounds that there is no rigorous definition of that concept. In particular she claims that the definitions formulated by Sir Julian Huxley and George Gaylord Simpson fail adequately to exclude any group of organisms. The concept of dominance is therefore alleged to be meaningless and the argument for progress invalid.

Effect of the Number of Patches in a Multi-patch SIRS Model with Fast Migration on the Basic Reproduction Rate.Etienne Kouokam, Pierre Auger, Hassan Hbid & Maurice Tchuente - 2008 - Acta Biotheoretica 56 (1-2):75-86.
We consider a two-patch epidemiological system where individuals can move from one patch to another, and local interactions between the individuals within a patch are governed by the classical SIRS model. When the time-scale associated with migration is much smaller than the time-scale associated with infection, aggregation methods can be used to simplify the initial complete model formulated as a system of ordinary differential equations. Analysis of the aggregated model then shows that the two-patch basic reproduction rate is smaller than (...)

Edmund Husserl; Philosopher of Infinite Tasks.Maurice Alexander Natanson - 1973 - Evanston [Ill.]: Northwestern University Press.
Winner of the 1974 National Book Award The product of many years of reflection on phenomenology, this book is a comprehensive and creative introduction to the philosophy of Edmund Husserl. Natanson uses Husserl's later work as a clue to the meaning of his entire intellectual career, showing how his earlier methodological work evolved into the search for transcendental roots and developed into a philosophy of the life-world. Phenomenology, for Natanson, emerges as a philosophy of origin, a transcendental discipline concerned with (...)

On Immigration and Refugees.Sir Michael Dummett - 2001 - Routledge.
Michael Dummett, philosopher and social critic, is also one of the sharpest and most prominent commentators and campaigners for the fair treatment of immigrants and refugees in Britain and Europe. This book insightfully draws together his thoughts on this major issue for the first time. Exploring the confused and often highly unjust thinking about immigration, Dummett then carefully questions the principles and justifications governing state policies, pointing out that they often conflict with the rights of refugees as laid down by (...)

Fairness, Feelings, and Ethical Decision- Making: Consequences of Violating Community Standards of Fairness.Maurice E. Schweitzer & Donald E. Gibson - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 77 (3):287-301.
In this article, we describe the influence of violations of community standards of fairness on subsequent ethical decision-making and emotions. Across two studies, we manipulated explanations for a common action, and we find that explanations that violate community standards of fairness lead to greater intentions to behave unethically than explanations that are consistent with community standards of fairness. We find that perceptions of justifiability mediate this relationship. We also find that individuals derive significant psychological benefits from engaging in unethical behavior (...)
