Se trata de un libro de terror, pero no tanto por contener toda una galería espectral, con asedios de las fantasías, de fantasmas que vagan por nuestra realidad o de fantasmas que lo son y no lo saben, sino porque ningún yo está a salvo de la espectralización. En este artículo se aborda el problema de lo irreal en el filósofo español Xavier Zubiri y, más específicamente, el problema de la ficción y del arte. Se realiza una breve conceptuación de lo que el filósofo entiende por realidad, y de cómo se inserta en ella lo irreal. Se propone sucintamente que lo irreal es “realmente” irreal y que el hombre está forzado a habérselas con lo irreal y con la ficción para poder estar verdaderamente en las cosas. In Fortführung einer postmodernen Geschichtsschreibung haben sich in den letzten zwei Jahrzehnten deutsche und angelsächsische Historiker verstärkt darum bemüht, eine virtuelle oder konjekturale Geschichtsforschung als den Königsweg zur Überwindung der Krise der Geschichtswissenschaft zu etablieren. Die Was wäre geschehen, wenn...?-Geschichtsschreibung wird vor allem von dem Althistoriker Alexander Demandt als eine erkenntnistheoretische Wunderwaffe, als ein Novum Organon der Geschichtswissenschaft, angepriesen. In diesem Buch wird gezeigt, daß die irreale oder virtuelle Geschichte sich nicht nur in logische und methodologische Widersprüche verstrickt, sondern geschichtstheoretisch (...) einen erheblichen Rückschritt darstellt. Neben der Kritik an dieser erkenntnisvermindernden Strategie in der Geschichtsforschung wird anhand von unterschiedlichen Interpretationen historischer Ereignisse und Entwicklungen gezeigt, daß von der Antike bis heute alternative Geschichtsinterpretationen das eigentliche Bemühen um größere Erklärungskraft der historischen Forschung darstellten. Auf dieser Grundlage werden Ansätze zu einer Methodologie der Geschichtswissenschaft erarbeitet, die die Erkenntnisse der modernen Wissenschaftstheorie dazu nutzen, um ein größeres Erklärungspotential für historische Interpretationen zu ermöglichen. Geschichtsforschung wird in diesem Sinne zu einer Sozialwissenschaft menschlichen Handelns und muß sich deshalb darum bemühen, die theoretischen Fortschritte anderer sozialwissenschaftlicher Fächer zu integrieren und zu verarbeiten. Dieses Buch ist deshalb ein Plädoyer für interdisziplinäre Zusammenarbeit, damit die Geschichtswissenschaft Anschluß findet an die methodisch fortgeschrittenen Wissenschaften. Deshalb müssen sich Historiker, Soziologen, Philosophen oder Politikwissenschaftler gleichermaßen mit diesen Problemen befassen. (shrink)

Nicholas Rescher surveys and analyzes the different kinds of unreal possibilities and nonexistent objects, tying together all the diverse ways in which this area has been approached by philosophers. As he surveys the field and clarifies the kinds of unreality, he also makes a sustained argument against the philosophical fashion for dealing with nonexistent possible world as though they were authentic objects. The author holds that, while we may discuss possibilities, we ought not to accord them ontological status. The possibility (...) of existence of a certain sort of world is not the existence of possible world of a certain sort. While we may reasonable discuss possibilities at the generic level, such as a world where dogs have horns, this does not require a commitment to a possible world where they do. The work that theorists of logic and language want to accomplish with possible worlds and individuals can be managed with propositional manifolds, stories or scenarios, while the modalities of necessity and possibility that modal logicians want to analyze in terms of realization in possible worlds can be handled by turning instead to figuring in stories or scenarios. Starting from the rejection of Husserl.s theory of intentionality, both Ortega and Zubiri elaborate two unlike concepts of experience. Life and Reality are the capital themes of two different metaphysics which not only cannot avoid the concept of unreality, but, in some way, are based on it. For this reason, experience becomes a conquest: in one case (Ortega), after the struggle with and against the circumstances which is the I, in the other (Zubiri) by the encounter and the fulfillment of (...) Reality. The different ways in which these philosophers conceive Unreality, reason and intelligence, determine their nearness and farness from Historicism. (shrink)

The symbolic paraphrase of 'because' sentences suggested by Frege, which is still widely accepted, will be gradually developed into a more adequate, though much more complicated, form. Out of the different types of such sentences, the 'for the only reason that' type will be given especial consideration. Furthermore, it will be expounded that contrary-to-fact conditionals may function either as 'for the only reason that' explanations, or as 'for at least the reason that' explanations, or as arguments, the difference being dependent (...) partly on certain temporal characteristics of their constituents and partly on the pragmatic features of the speech act situation. Consequently, counterfactuals have no definite logical structure, which is a reason, hitherto unnoticed, why they cannot be used in defining dispositional predicates. It will be shown, however, that 'for the only reason that' explanations can serve this purpose quite properly. (shrink)

“Irrealis” grammatical moods, such as the subjunctive, provoke linguistic, literary, and phenomenological questions. What is the ontological status of the domain revealed by irrealis moods? How does it solicit signification? Is it a mere illusion or a distraction from the real? I propose not only that our ventures into the irreal are indispensable ways of making sense of things, but that the irreal is necessary to the being of language and to our own being.

Context: Linguists and philosophers, as well as psychologists, have not yet offered a coherent explanation of the logic behind the intricate grammar of counterfactuals, the meaning of irreality and….

I propose constructive alternatives to selected statements made by Druzhinin in his description of the irreal, and I remind ourselves that the words we use are not the experiences we are attempting….

In her article “Die Irrealität des Kunstwerkes,” first published in 1938, Hedwig Conrad-Martius delves into the question of the artistic representation of the real reality of the world, which basically concerns the classical distinction between art and nature. It is in this context that Conrad-Martius rejects idealism and the concomitant assumption that an artwork imitates the “living reality” of Nature. She clearly distinguishes between the task of phenomenology and that of art: while phenomenology should surpass the sphere of mere sensuous (...) appearances and inquire into the “real reality” (wirkliche Wirklichkeit) of the world, phenomenological aesthetics should conversely deal with the expressive character of appearances and assume their inherent “irreality” (Irrealität), such that phenomenological ontology and aesthetics involve distinctive ontological realms that vary according to the subject-matter. However, while she clearly distances herself from Husserl’s phenomenology in her search for the consciousness-independent facticity of the world, she concurs with him in her eidetic enquiries and in the assertion of the creative potential of art, which lies in the creation of a new, even “irreal,” world. For this purpose, I will explore confluences and divergences between their respective conceptions. (shrink)

Il est tout à fait possible de soutenir que l’espace de Newton manque d’objectivité physique (ce qui est un corollaire de la théorie einsténienne) et néanmoins prendre tout à fait au sérieux la thèse de l’espace euclidien comme condition de possibilité de l’expérience. Condition de possibilité de l’émergence d’un sujet qui configure son monde en remettant tout point de son environnement à une métrique. Cette métrique ne serait autre que celle qui donne sens à la géométrie que l’on a appris (...) à l´école, c’est à dire, la métrique euclidienne. Tout en manquant de réalité physique, tout en n`étant pas fertile à l’heure de rendre compte de la forme de l’univers, la métrique euclidienne serait la seule modalité sous laquelle il y aurait pour l’homme une prise sur le monde. Qu’on l’appelle ou pas transcendantale, la reconnaissance de la métrique euclidienne comme condition de possibilité de l’expérience nous rapprocherait de Kant sans pour autant répudier Einstein ou Poincaré. Estruturando psicofenomenologicamente a atividade da consciência imaginante, será possível ver que a imagem difere radicalmente da percepção, mas ambas permanecem, contudo, consciência intencional. Nessa toada, cabe a indagação: se toda consciência imaginante é consciência intencional, como enquadrar as experiências alucinatórias?: The aim of the present article is to investigate how (...) the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre understood, in his phenomenological psychology of the imagination, the problematic of the "normal unreal" and the "pathological unreal". By psycho-phenomenologically structuring the activity of the imaginative consciousness, we can see that the image differs radically from perception, but both remain intentional consciousness. In this context, it is necessary to ask the following question: if all imaginative consciousness is intentional consciousness, how can we frame hallucinatory experiences? (shrink)

In Extragalactic Reality: The Case of Gravitational Lensing Hacking resumes the discussion of scientific realism from the last chapter of Representing and Intervening. Since the criterion of manipulability cannot be applied to astronomical objects, experimental entity realism seems to be restricted to terrestrial entities. In fact, Hacking explicitly argues against astronomical realism. The case at issue is the existence of gravitational lenses. In this paper, I question Hacking 's chief witness for astronomical antirealism: the gravitational lens system “0957+ 561”. It (...) will be shown that Hacking 's argumentation is misleading. Discussing astronomical realism as theory realism, Hacking focuses on the question of how to infer the existence of gravitational lenses from the truth of gravitational lens theory. But neither the reconstruction of gravitational lensing in terms of inference to the best explanation nor the argument of underdetermination are tenable under closer inspection. My thesis is that a realist account of gravitational lensing can be given by relying on observation, causal capacities and home truths. (shrink)

Ele tenta mostrar que a posição de Rorty está fora do campo “realismo versus anti-realismo” e o “irracionalismo” não é um bom adjetivo. Searle estaria sobre uma linha incorreta em sua abordagem do tema da verdade em Rorty.

_ Source: _Volume 46, Issue 2, pp 205 - 220 I investigate the phenomenological significance of Husserl’s appeal to the “numerical identity” of _irreality_ as it appears in recollected manifolds of lived-experience in his mature account of the transcendental constitution of transcendence and find it wanting. I show that what is at stake for Husserl in this appeal is the descriptive mark that exhibits the distinction between a unit of meaning as it is constituted in psychologically determined lived-experience and as (...) it is constituted in lived-experience that is determined transcendentally. In other words, I show that numerical identity functions for Husserl as the criterion that signals transcendental psychologism has been overcome. I then present the argument that it has not been overcome in Husserl’s investigations, because the collective unity characteristic of numerical unity is presupposed by those investigations rather than made evidentially manifest and articulated. Este artigo tem como objetivo investigar o papel da música no interior das considerações de Sartre sobre a obra de arte, com base no período de publicação dos primeiros escritos do autor. Sabe-se que Sartre, em suas poucas investidas sobre estética, conferiu maior densidade ao caso pictórico. No entanto, isso não significa que a música não possua notáveis peculiaridades frente às demais manifestações artísticas. Em especial, quando consideramos as análises do autor sobre o contraste entre a irrealidade e o real, (...) o exame sobre a música nos oferece importantes nuances para a compreensão do problema. Em vista disso, buscaremos examinar o papel desempenhado pela música em A náusea, romance de 1938, segundo o pano de fundo teórico exposto em O imaginário, obra de 1940. (shrink)

ABSTRACT This article analyzes the figure of the end of the world in the final lecture of Derrida’s The Beast and the Sovereign seminar series (the last seminar series he gives). The author argues that Derrida uses the final line of a Paul Celan poem (“The world is gone. I must carry you.”) as a valedictory refrain in order to show the political and existential stakes of his ontological investigations. The article situates these stakes within Derrida’s fictionalism, his belief that (...) (1) ideal entities are irreal but also (2) the way in which the meanings of ideal entities work is like the way that the meaning of fictional discourse works. Using Derrida’s own example of Celan, as well as examples from Benjamin Britten and Skeeter Davis, the author argues for the importance of aesthetic experience in tying together these political, existential, and ontological themes. In this article, there is a suggestion that the application of certain key concepts or procedures of Husserlian phenomenology can be helpful in the practice of therapy. It is well known that how a therapist is present to a client and his or her story is critical for the success of therapy. What is less clear, however, is how to address this "way of being" in therapy and what kinds of interventions are helpful to clients. In addressing some of these (...) difficult issues, the Husserlian concepts found to be helpful are Husserl's chief directive to go "back to the matters themselves," the distinction among real and irreal objects, presence to the order of phenomena, the phenomenal realm, the intentional-fulfilling-identifying nature of conscious acts, the phenomenological-psychological reduction, and the discovery and description of eidetic structures of experience. These fundamental philosophical distinctions are taken up within a psychological perspective and elaborated and used within a phenomenological psychological perspective. (shrink)

Tanto Tomás de Aquino como Husserl coinciden, respecto a la teoría sobre la verdad, en pensar que (debido a la adecuación) el intelecto hace una copia exacta (absoluta) de una cosa siempre idéntica (igualmente absoluta), y que gracias a ello refutan el relativismo. Pero Julián Marías, entusiasta de la verdad, critica al absolutismo y al relativismo, y piensa que ambos están basados en la verdad como adecuación. La visión que sobre la verdad tiene Marías es consecuencia de su respeto a (...) la realidad, organizada en perspectiva: esta es de la realidad, no del hombre que la mira. Por ello ninguna verdad agota la realidad. Los partidarios de la adecuación suelen aplicar su esquema mental a los objetos irreales o ideales, suponiendo que la realidad como tal, caótica para ellos por la multitud de puntos de vista diferentes, está desorganizada y es fuente de relativismo. A teoria da evidência faz-nos pensar o conhecimento a partir da sua face mais obscura, ainda que, paradoxalmente, a estranheza surja aqui do lado da luz: arquétipo cognitivo, diz-nos Fernando Gil, a luz é universalmente “a matéria natural do verdadeiro”. As condições perceptivas de produção da evidência apelam inevitavelmente para a visão e suas metáforas; os sentimentos de satisfação que o sujeito experimenta perante a descoberta da verdade são a consequência de um desejo em direcção ao verdadeiro, que eclode como (...) um brilho, uma iluminação, até mesmo uma vibração. Temos na evidência uma presença misteriosa, a partir do olhar giliano; ela exprime-se pelo conceito freudiano de unheimlich – a “inquietante estranheza”. Trata-se de um dos factores de eficácia da própria evidência, já que esta liga o sujeito ao mundo externo, de maneira apodíctica e plena, para além de que é típica das situações em que o real e o irreal se confundem, segundo Freud: esta “estranheza familiar”, como também se pode dizer, abre caminho a um excesso cognitivo no vislumbre certeiro de um possível real e verdadeiro. In this paper I debate a range of unnoticed presuppositions which are used by a selection of influential thinkers in organisation studies to adapt a theory of the irreal to the social realm. I first examine a selection of ‘Postmodern’ authors and focus on the ‘Process Metaphysics’ theories (especially those influenced by Bergson) present in excerpts of contemporary OS ‘Postmodernism’. I argue that ‘Process-Metaphysics’ is the theoretical movement which underpins these aspects of Postmodernism in organisation studies. This is evinced in (...) the writings of Chia, and Cooper which adopt a dualist view of language deployment and link this with both an anti-rationalist and anti-individualist perspective. I also examine this Postmodern thesis of Process Metaphysics in relation to its adoption of the device of the Identity Metaphor, which fastens its theories to the ‘real.’. (shrink)

Die konzentrierte innere Erfahrung der deutschen Mystik war eine wichtige Quelle der deutschen Philosophie. Nicht nur innerhalb der philosophischen Tradition, sondern auch in den Bauernkriegen des 16. Jahrhunderts und auch in der Reformation spielten mystische Motive eine beachtliche Rolle und übten in der Folgezeit Einfluß auf die Medizin (Paracelsus), aber auch auf die Dichtung und die Musik aus. Daß der Nationalsozialismus die Mystik jedoch für die eigene Ideologie mißbrauchte, hatte zur Folge, daß seit dem Zweiten Weltkrieg der Einfluß der deutschen (...) Mystik auf die Entwicklung der ganzen deutschen Philosophie nahezu nicht thematisiert, eher tabuisiert wurde. Mystik selbst ist in erster Linie ein Wissen um die innere Erfahrung des Menschen, um das, was der Introspektion zugänglich ist. Aus ihr entsprangen nicht nur bedeutsame Impulse für das religiöse Bewußtsein, sondern auch für die ethische und ästhetische Sensibilität der Kultur insgesamt. Die Gegenwartsprobleme fordern zu einer Belebung der mystischen Traditionslinie heraus. Wenn wir nicht an die Äußerlichkeit der von Wissenschaft, Technik und Ökonomie dominierten Lebenswelt verfallen wollen, ist es unumgänglich, an diese eigenen Wurzeln zu erinnern. In dieser hier vorlegten Reihe von Beiträgen, die erstmalig diese Traditionslinie als systematischen und historischen Zusammenhang vorstellt, geht es um die Aneignung der eigenen Geschichte als der Verbindung der zwei Seiten unserer Kultur, des Äußeren und des Inneren. Das Innere ist durchaus nicht das Irreale, das Unwirkliche, auch wenn es nicht experimentell zu erschließen ist wie das in Raum und Zeit Gegebene. Das Innere ist nicht nur eine eigene Dimension, die Wirklichkeitscharakter besitzt, sondern darüberhinaus eine strukturbildende Kraft, die die Form unserer Außenwelt prägt. (shrink)

This piece explicates some chief modes of consciousness in phenomenology in order to show that a very significant challenge of virtuality surfaces both within, as well as outside of, the discipline. This issue is of no small importance today, where the difference between perception and imagination, real and irreal, as well as presence and absence, are all becoming increasingly vague because of new technologies and the intrinsic virtualities involved therein. In this context, the question is: Where does virtuality fit in (...) such a picture? I will argue that phenomenology can start to account for such developments, although much more explicative work will be required in the future. With this in mind, sections two to four will articulate an initial phenomenology of perception, phantasy, and image-consciousness, as found chiefly in works by Husserl and Sartre. Then, section five will question the preceding phenomenological theory through some phenomenological and non-phenomenological thinkers, who all seem to have a concept of virtuality at the heart of their work. Lastly, in the final two sections I will suggest a difference between real and irreal virtualities, and briefly mention some current virtual technologies in order to show that there is a constant and complex interplay between the real, irreal, and the virtual in many of our everyday experiences—an interplay that needs to be investigated much further if we are to make sense of how it is changing how we think and behave. Beide Theorien der Intentionalität werden im Detail analysiert und mit Freges Theorie von Sinn und Bedeutung verglichen. Die frühe Lehre, wie sie Brentano in seiner Psychologie vom empirischen Standpunkt einführt, ist eine Objekt-Theorie, bei der gewisse irreale Entitäten als Objekte der Intention fungieren, mit den bekannten kontraintuitiven Aspekten und logischen Anomalien als Folge, die von Brentano durch eine Umformulierung des Begriffs des Objektes der Intention gelöst werden. Diese Theorie (...) kritisiert Brentano später vehement und ersetzt sie durch eine Theorie der Relationen, die unvollständige intentionale Objekte vermeidet, allerdings um den Preis einer deutlich komplizierterenUrteils-, Wahrheits- und Evidenzlehre. Los posthumanistas intentan lograr un cuerpo más autónomo y con eficiencia energética, desarrollando la interacción del cuerpo-tecnología y la conciencia- digitalidad, la biotecnología o la bioinformática. A través de la interferencia mutua del cuerpo, la conciencia y la realidad, se crea un nuevo espacio de “Realidad Virtual”. El posthumanismo crítico intenta desenredar las características comunes de la (...) realidad humana y la Realidad Virtual posthumana y establece vínculos comunicativos entre ambos, adhieriendose a la convicción de que la simulación nunca debe ganarse a la realidad. El posthumanismo crítico intenta ubicar al ser humano en el posthumano. Este artículo analiza los puntos comunes de la Realidad Virtual, la biotecnología y la globalización mediante una reflexión sobre la noción de la narración. La existencia de la Realidad Virtual, el códigogenético, y la globalización se debe al deseo de eludir cualquier narrativa y expresar la realidad “directamente”. La tecnología de los genes no trata de entender alguna estapa - temporalmente definible - de todo el proceso de generación, sino el gen en sí mismo, como la cantidad esencial de generación que no tiene lugar real en la generación en sí. La globalización “globaliza” el mundo y lo representa como algo que no es ni el “mundo real” ni su narración, sino más bien una esfera nueva que tenemos que aceptar como tal. El posthumanismo crítico define las diferencias sutiles entre una Realidad Virtual, en el sentido de una narrativa tecnológica, y una Irrealidad Virtual existencial que interpreta lo virtual en una forma más “humana”. In this article some intriguing aspects of electromagnetic theory and its relation to mathematics and reality are discussed, in particular those related to the suppositions needed to obtain the wave equations from Maxwell equations and from there Helmholtz equation. The following questions are discussed. How is that equations obtained with so many irreal or fictitious assumptions may provide a description that is in a high degree verifiable? Must everything that is possible to deduce from a theoretical mathematical model occur in (...) the world? Does everything that takes place in the world have a mathematical description? (shrink)

The aim of this article is to show that the prospects for intentional irreal-ism are much brighter than it is generally thought. In the first section, I provide a general characterization of some of the various forms that the realism/irrealism debates might take. In the second, I ask whether there is any defensible form of realism about intentional states. I show that most candidates are nearly trivially false, and that the only form of in-tentional realism which is not, is a (...) restricted one which is prima facie no more plausible than the corresponding form of irrealism. In the third and last section, I defend my interpretation of what intentional irrealism amounts to against some possible misunderstandings, give some reasons why it should be taken seriously and argue that it could plausibly be at-tributed to Davidson. A bela manhã de sol era um convite a visitar meus pensamentos mais distantes, assim, absorto em minhas reflexões caminhava a passos lentos, sem perceber a presença de Alina, que observava sorrindo aquele meu ritual. Alina: Esse caminhar kantiano me diz que buscavas algo, ou melhor; alguma resposta. Estou certa? Lancio: Alina, que bom vê-la! É verdade. Caminhar estimula a circulação e os neurônios, consequentemente, é ótimo para raciocinar e ir em busca de respostas para delas obter perguntas, contudo é (...) sempre mais provável ao fim, encontrarmos um grande “nada”, um vazio, mas o que nos conforta é saber que o “nada” nunca é verdadeiro. Alina: Lancio, não seria o contrário, as perguntas gerando respostas? Lancio: O senso comum pensa assim, é o que a maioria das pessoas acredita, mas quando buscamos os primeiros princípios, muito do que procuramos não é conhecido, portanto inacessível a perguntas, o que resta é a esperança de cegos, tropeçarmos neste “nada” que sabemos irreal, para então sermos capazes de formular perguntas até então impossível de ser formulada. Alina: Poderia então dizer que o fim último do passeio filosófico é buscar respostas a perguntas inexistentes? Lancio: Há outros propósitos filosóficos, mas este é o propósito maior dos filósofos, porque, se uma incompreensibilidade é conhecida, significa que é fato a partir do qual todos os esforços devem ser engendrados à sua resolução. Todavia pode acontecer que o fato que dá origem à incompreensibilidade não seja verdadeiro, mas criado pela expectativa e assim sendo, o próprio homem é criador da incompreensão que busca compreender. Ao que é físico, a percepção e a correção de um erro é questão de tempo e às vezes de pouco tempo, ao que é metafísico, não há esta mesma percepção, neste caso é necessário transcender, buscar o fato antes que ele o seja. -/- Alina: Mas se imaginarmos que todos nós estamos propensos à mesma dúvida existencial, esse caminhar filosófico não seria uma exclusividade, mas comum a todos em algum momento, não é certo? Lancio: Sua reflexão nos leva de volta à pergunta: o que é a filosofia? E torno a dizer: Se disséssemos que é a arte de pensar, todos seriam filósofos. Se disséssemos que é a arte de imaginar, ainda assim cada um de nós poderia se dizer filósofo. No entanto, tanto o pensar como o imaginar pertence ao alicerce filosófico e se também pertence a todos como exercício da mente, porque nem todos podem ser filósofos? Uma manifestação verdadeira do pensamento pela busca de uma determinada verdade, não significa que se está fazendo filosofia, é necessário que se leve para mais além, esse pensar. Todos de alguma forma ao caminharem, caminham em direção a algo, seguem em direção aos seus objetivos profissionais, emocionais, seguem em direção às suas casas, sabendo que lá é o fim último de sua caminhada, onde os aguarda o pai, a mãe, o filho, a esposa, o gato, um banho quente ou as preocupações domésticas. Caminham em direção ao trabalho, à padaria, ao mercado, à farmácia, ao parque, ao shopping, ao teatro. O homem sempre segue um caminho que leva a um fim. Quando envelhecem, caminham menos, às vezes caminham do quarto à sala ou à cozinha ou à varanda. Quando debilitado, inerte numa cama, seus olhos e ouvidos caminham até a televisão ou a uma tela de computador ou apenas caminham por entre esparsas recordações. Há sempre um objetivo que se espera conhecido no final de cada caminhada para o homem, inclusive a morte. O filósofo, entretanto, não caminha somente para casa ou para o trabalho, mercado, farmácia ou para o parque, shopping ou teatro. Não caminha somente para a sala, cozinha ou varanda, seus olhos e ouvidos não caminham somente para a televisão, para uma tela de computador ou para uma paisagem ou uma recordação antiga e cara ou para as vozes que o cerca. Para todos os homens, cada caminho percorrido tem o seu fim e aos homens isto basta. Mas o que é fim para o homem comum, não é fim para o filósofo em seu ir e vir, em seu olhar, em seu ouvir, ele vai sempre além do fim comum a todos. Alina: Pelo que acabas de dizer não posso duvidar que imaginei indevidamente que todos tinham a mesma percepção. Contudo se a maior parte dos homens estão convictos, conformados ou inconformados com os fins cotidianos e com o fim último de suas vidas, há que ter uma razão que os move a pensar e agir como tal, por que essa mesma razão não age sobre os filósofos? Lancio: Sim, Alina, e a razão de que falas é a fé em um ser supremo, criador de tudo e de todos, que está no imaginário de homens e mulheres independente de raça, por isso, a crença age sobre os seres e os impulsiona a tal conduta, desde os centros mais desenvolvidos, às mais primitivas tribos espalhadas ao redor do mundo. O símbolo da divindade fixado na natureza humana é a razão que move o homem ao conformismo. Alina: Sabe Lancio, desde muito cedo tive minhas dúvidas a respeito das religiões, mas às vezes penso que a despeito de muitas delas agirem como comércio da fé, elas são um mal necessário que têm o papel anestésico e consolador para as desgraças e as dúvidas existenciais de milhares de homens e mulheres, mas o que sempre me fascinou é a presença de Deus, como você disse, no imaginário da raça humana. Milênios após milênios, geração após geração, Ele permanece, oculto, invisível, permitindo virtudes e atrocidades, sempre inatingível e pouco questionável. Por quê? Lancio: Bem, Alina, das dúvidas e questionamentos que cerca o ser humano no curso de sua existência está a orfandade, é este vazio que possibilitou com pouco esforço, a adoção de um criador, de uma divindade que pudesse ser a explicação de tudo aquilo que o homem não podia compreender, inclusive a ele próprio, e ser o Pai de tudo e de todos. Quando você fala em mal necessário, sei que pensa nos dias de hoje, mas a instituição de Leis Divinas em tempos remotos teve o mesmo sentido que acabas de expressar e foi certamente um meio eficaz de conter o barbarismo e domesticar os homens. Todavia o início desse processo é o temor do homem quando constata sua pequenez ante a grandiosidade dos fenômenos naturais e do próprio universo, por este motivo as primeiras adorações foram o sol, a lua [97] e as estrelas. Com a inevitável evolução estes objetos de devoção foram substituídos pela imposição das Leis [98], mas ainda hoje, nas comunidades mais primitivas é possível ver o mesmo culto ao sol e à lua, como há milhares de anos [99]. -/- Todavia, após a adoção de um ser supremo ouve sempre questionamentos desde os tempos mais remotos por diferentes classes de pensadores, mas a necessidade de regras e rédeas para a manutenção da ordem nas comunidades, tribos e reinos, sempre falou mais forte e a divindade nunca deixou de acompanhar as Leis, legitimando os atos dos legisladores que se passavam eles próprios, por instrumentos da Divindade. Desse modo Licurgo com suas Leis representava a vontade de Apolo, Moisés os desejos de Jeová e Minos cumpria os mandamentos de Zeus [100]. Este modelo de Leis Divinas dos antigos gregos e hebreus são heranças de tradições egípcias, levadas por suas expedições com o intuito de obter obediência dos povos onde fixava colônias [101], mas também pela estreita convivência de algumas tribos com a cultura do Nilo [102], todavia eles mesmos, os egípcios, tinham na classe sacerdotal, uma escola de conhecimento e não de superstição. Seus ensinamentos não constavam de nenhum princípio que não fosse racional, nenhum elemento fabuloso, seus costumes tinham por fundamento; princípios morais, razão de utilidade e lembranças históricas [103], que transmitiam pelo método simbólico e ritualístico, o primeiro dando a compreensão dos fenômenos da natureza e o segundo repetindo atitudes e comportamentos viciosos ou valorosos de seus antepassados ou de fatos acontecidos. A incompreensão do que era ensinado nas exclusivas Escolas de Mistérios por parte dos menos afortunados, que não tinham acesso a estes centros de estudos, deu lugar a superstições e mitos, fenômeno fabuloso que viria a ser utilizado por Legisladores em suas Leis, como rédea à civilidade, uns no entanto abusando da credulidade, faz plenamente Divina a Lei que redige, criando então o embrião das antigas religiões. _ Source: _Volume 48, Issue 2, pp 209 - 232 In _Specters of Marx_, Derrida suggests that the most fundamental condition of phenomenality lies in the ambiguous status of the noema, defined as an intentional and non-real component of _Erlebnis_, neither “in” the world nor “in” consciousness. This “irreality” of the noematic correlate is conceived by Derrida as the origin of sense and experience. Already in his _Of Grammatology_, Derrida maintained that the difference between the appearing and the appearance, (...) between the world and the lived experience, is the condition of all other differences. Unfortunately, Derrida limits himself to a few self-evident remarks, without further elaborating.The aim of this paper is twofold: on the one hand, to contextualize Derrida’s interpretation of the noema from a theoretical and historical perspective; on the other hand, to show its effects on the early moments of Derrida’s philosophy. The result will shed light on a neglected issue in the relationship between deconstruction and phenomenology. (shrink)

Attempts to close the mind-body gap traditionally resort to a priori speculations. Motivated by dissatisfaction with such accounts, neurophenomenology constitutes one of the first attempts to close the mind-body gap non-metaphysically. Nonetheless, it faces significant challenges. Many of these challenges arise from its abandoning of transcendentality and its dim view of bioinformation. In this paper, I propose a superior non-metaphysical alternative: a combination of a reformed biosemiotics and transcendental phenomenology. My approach addresses the difficulties of neurophenomenology, while retaining the merit (...) of mutual constraints. Biosemiotics pays respect to bioinformation while imposing the sign-meaning duality on primitive forms of life, which is a relic of anthropomorphism. To avoid this unjustified commitment, I argue for a sign-free biosemantics which replaces Peirce’s semiotics with Husserl’s theory of meaning and exchanges naturalism for transcendentalism. Meaning, according to the resulting account, is the “intended as such”. The irreality of meaning results from what I term the ‘higher visibility’ of intentionality. I argue that the mind-body gap can be locally closed in a non-metaphysical manner as the result of reflection upon empirical biological investigations. Sign-free biosemantics uncovers the meanings for the organism that are implicit in biological research, while transcendental phenomenology analyses the experiences that biologists undergo when associating the physical with the biological level, while at the same time also analysing the very framework within which they work. Meanwhile, biosemiotics frees phenomenology from its methodological limitations, and the two domains establish mutual constraints in a more radical form than neurophenomenology. (shrink)

In an effort to address the image of the nude as a concern of both feminist aesthetics and existentialism, this paper shall provide a critique on the male gaze in visual art by means of Jean-Paul Sartre’s analysis of the image and the imagining consciousness. This paper aims to reassess not only the aspects surrounding the male gaze but the nature of its image. In this sense, while objectification is part of the nature of the nude, both the representation and (...) the imagining consciousness of its spectator play a part in the objectification of the nude as image. This paper argues that through Sartre’s account of the nature of images, the male gaze misconstrues the represented nude through her image in most works of art. I will show that as an act of the imagination, the male gaze elicits the sexually objectified representations of the nude and that the reality of the nude is conflated with its image thereby producing irreal, objectified and prejudiced representations of women. Da mittelalterliche Denker Gottes Wissen der Welt vorwiegend als ein praktisches, auf Fürsorge gründendes Wissen begriffen, können die freien künftigen menschlichen Taten nicht als prinzipiell unwißbar ausgeschlossen werden. Gottes praktisches Wissen des kontingenten Zukünftigen gründet für Duns Scotus auf seinem faktisch unwandelbaren Willensentschluß und ist daher nur insofern kontingent, als es kontrafaktisch anders hätte sein können. Ockham verwirft solche irrealen Alternativen gleichzeitig zum Faktischen, da die Eigenart willentlicher Verursachung auch ohne solche hohen "ontologischen Kosten" erklärbar sei: Anders als eine Naturursache (...) könne die freie Ursache ohne gewandelte Bedingungen im nächsten Augenblick anderes wirken. Innerhalb allein der wirklichen Welt ergeben echte Gegenwartsaussagen angesichts der Irreversibilität des Geschehenen hinfort notwendige Vergangenheitsaussagen. Aussagen über göttliches Vorauswissen seien hingegen nur oberflächengrammatisch Gegenwartsaussagen, sachlich jedoch kontingent, da ihre Geltung von einem kontingenten Zukünftigen abhänge, wenngleich unwandelbar, weil jede Zukunftsaussage, falls wahr, unveränderlich wahr sei . Bei Unwandelbarkeit aber läßt sich Kontingenz kaum anders als mit der Skotischen Konzeption gleichzeitiger irrealer Möglichkeiten erklären: Gott hätte das faktisch stets Gewußte niemals zu wissen brauchen.
