We can't fill in answers to philosophical questions.Lloyd Kaufman - 1998 - Behavioral and Brain Sciences 21 (6):760-761.
The target article discusses the classic blind spot, scotomas, subjective contours, and other so-called filling-in phenomena. Its purpose is to evaluate the idea that some theories of filling-in amount to tacit acceptance of Cartesian materialism and a form of psychophysical isomorphism. Pessoa et al. reject what is termed structural isomorphism as well as Cartesian materialism, but claim that neural processes adduced as underlying filling-in may be acceptable without implying isomorphism. The article supports the idea of perceiving as an active constructive (...)

The Real Mystery of Positive Business: A Response from Christian Faith.Lloyd E. Sandelands - 2017 - Journal of Business Ethics 145 (4):771-780.
I ask why an increasing number of business scholars today are drawn to an idea of “positive business” that they cannot account for scientifically. I answer that it is because they are attracted to the real mystery of positive business which is its incomprehensible and unspeakable divinity. I begin by asking why the research literature has yet to speak of positive business plainly and with one voice. I find that it lacks for the right words because it comes to human (...)

    God and Mammon.Lloyd E. Sandelands - 2009 - Upa.
This book speaks to the need for God in business today. Together, the chapters of this book build toward a comprehensive ethic of business administration. God and Mammon finds that business today needs to serve the human person, who is a creative being in the image of God.

Social and Individual Religious Orientations Exist Within Both Intrinsic and Extrinsic Religiosity.Lloyd Sloan, Jamie Barden & Debbie Van Camp - 2016 - Archive for the Psychology of Religion 38 (1):22-46.
This research presents the development of a measure of religiosity that includes social intrinsic religiosity as distinct from extrinsic religiosity and from the typical conceptualization of intrinsic religiosity as an individual orientation. Study 1 developed the measure using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis; the results confirmed two intrinsic identity factors and two extrinsic benefit factors. Correlations with previously established religiosity measures demonstrate the scales construct validity and that social intrinsic religiosity is independent from extrinsic religiosity. In Study 2, differential responding (...)

Ideals as Interests in Hobbes's Leviathan: The Power of Mind Over Matter.S. A. Lloyd - 1992 - New York: Cambridge University Press.
    S. A. Lloyd proposes a radically new interpretation of Hobbes's Leviathan that shows transcendent interests - interests that override the fear of death - to be crucial to both Hobbes's analysis of social disorder and his proposed remedy to it. Most previous commentators in the analytic philosophical tradition have argued that Hobbes thought that credible threats of physical force could be sufficient to deter people from political insurrection. Professor Lloyd convincingly shows that because Hobbes took the transcendence of (...)

Rethinking the Enlightenment connects new work in intellectual history with fresh understandings of Continental philosophy and political theory. The collection bridges the disciplinary divides between the Enlightenment as understood in history, philosophy, and politics and moves towards a critical self-understanding of the present.

  27. An introduction to “Maturana's” biology.David Russell & Lloyd Fell - unknown
Our passion for this work arose in very different histories of living, but these histories converged some years ago around the writings of Humberto Maturana1. There were other reasons for us getting together, but it was the ideas of Maturana which inspired us both to take another look at the way we were doing things in our research and education, respectively. One of us (Lloyd) was grappling with basic biological questions which arose from research on the physiology of stress. (...)

    Hume and Intrinsic Value.D. A. Lloyd Thomas - 1990 - Philosophy 65 (254):419 - 437.
In this essay an ‘objective’ account of intrinsic value is proposed and partly defended. It is claimed that a kind of value exists which is, or may reasonably be supposed to be, a property of certain objects. The presence of such value is not to be wholly accounted for as the ‘projection’ of certain human feelings elicited by the object thought to be of value, nor by the object's meeting certain operative human conventions prescribing what is to be admired, nor (...)

    Debunking Nontheistic Moral Realism.Adam Lloyd Johnson - 2015 - Philosophia Christi 17 (2):353-367.
Evolutionary Debunking Arguments argue that, if naturalism and evolution are true, then our moral beliefs are merely human constructs nature selected because they increased our prospects for survival and reproduction. Atheist Erik Wielenberg disagrees; he has recently argued that morality could be objectively real, and that we could have moral knowledge, even if naturalism and evolution are true. I argue that Wielenberg is unsuccessful in his attempt to deflect a major concern raised by EDA proponents, namely, that moral knowledge would (...)

Desire in René Girard and Jesus.William Lloyd Newell - 2012 - Lexington Books.
Desire in René Girard and Jesus presents a comprehensive analysis of René Girard’s work on the origins of culture and the depths of human desire. Girard’s hypothesis of mimesis discloses the lack of originality in human desire even as it offers a scientific method for handling religion after two centuries of its absence in the social science.

    American political values and agency theory: A perspective. [REVIEW]Fred R. Kaen, Allen Kaufman & Larry Zacharias - 1988 - Journal of Business Ethics 7 (11):805 - 820.
This paper explores the historical American political values which have shaped modern financial theory and agency theory. Financial agency theory's intellectual roots are shown to be located in the liberal tradition which espouses the instrumental nature of property and property rights. The paper also argues that financial theorists should recognize that, historically, economic efficiency was not a value or end in itself but merely a means by which more fundamental social goals might be achieved.
