    We investigate the notion of minimal cognition, and claim that this notion already applies to bacterial behavior.     The role of knowledge has long been seen as problematic in the sensorimotor approach to experience. I offer an amended version of the sensorimotor approach, which replaces knowledge with what I call 'sensorimotor empathy'.
