Rethinking leadership: a human centered approach to management ethics.Roland Bardy - 2018 - New York, NY: Routledge.
Leadership, corporate responsibility and management ethics underline the human centered paradigm in the complex world of today. One major issue in management is impact on people. This book relates to the outcomes of human interaction within and beyond the borders of an organization. It discusses what motivates moral behavior at the individual and the collective levels, how morality is engrained in markets and how it is deployed in business processes and stakeholder relations. The book shows that human centered management is (...)

  2. A Comparative View of Business Ethics and Governance in the US and Continental Europe.Roland Bardy & Arthur Rubens - 2009 - International Review of Information Ethics 10:02.
The paper contrasts the economic, ethical, and organizational differences in the U.S. and Europe, as well as the differences in governance and leadership between U.S. and European managers, and how these differences impact decision-making and governance of U.S. and European businesses. In addition, the paper explores and contrasts select ethical and cultural issues between managers on both sides of the Atlantic. It is the authors' view that on both sides of the Atlantic we embrace the call for more ethics in (...)

Foreign Investment and Ethics: How to Contribute to Social Responsibility by Doing Business in Less-Developed Countries. [REVIEW]Roland Bardy, Stephen Drew & Tumenta F. Kennedy - 2012 - Journal of Business Ethics 106 (3):267-282.
Do foreign direct investment (FDI) and international business ventures promote positive social and economic development in emerging nations? This question will always prove contentious. First, the impacts differ according to context. Second, the social consequences and spillover effects of knowledge diffusion and technology-sharing may be limited and hard to measure. Third, contributions to enhancing social responsibility and improving living standards in host countries are delayed in effect, causally complex, and also hard to measure. Outcomes often critically depend on collaboration of (...)

Ex Post Facto: Peirce and the Living Signs of the Dead.Kieran Cashell - 2007 - Transactions of the Charles S. Peirce Society 43 (2):345-372.
The hypothesis of this paper is that we maintain a relationship with the dead precisely in their death, and this relationship is best understood in terms of Peirce's semiotics and its influence on the work of Jacques Derrida. Roland Bardies' theory of photography illustrates this semiotics of death. The subsistent and continuous reality of the non-extant, absent and silent being of the dead individual is manifested—and continues to communicate—through indexical signs, i.e., any traces left behind by the dead individual (...)

We would like to conduct a phenomenological analysis of illness beyond the characteristics which define it scientifically, in order to consider the suffering experience of the sick person which, in reality, constitute its authentic truth. Following Michel Henry’s philosophy which defines life as pathetic self-affection, we will understand that illness may and must first of all be considered as an intense form of this unsurmountable link to one’s self which concerns the very essence of everyone of us as a living (...)

Vaccination Policies: Between Best and Basic Interests of the Child, between Precaution and Proportionality.Roland Pierik - 2020 - Public Health Ethics 13 (2):201-214.
How should liberal-democratic governments deal with emerging vaccination hesitancy when that leads to the resurgence of diseases that for decades were under control? This article argues that vaccination policies should be justified in terms of a proper weighing of the rights of children to be protected against vaccine-preventable diseases and the rights of parents to raise their children in ways that they see fit. The argument starts from the concept of the ‘best interests of the child involved’. The concept is (...)

Richard A. Watson’s proposal that rights inhere only in those who can perform duties is here objected to as being too intellectualistic. Instead, it is suggested that rights inhere in all those who participate in the process of becoming, as A. N. Whitehead proposed half a century ago. Ecological science lends new support to this view.

Kenōsis, anamnēsis, and our place in history: A neurophenomenological account.Roland Karo & Meelis Friedenthal - 2008 - Zygon 43 (4):823-836.
We assess St. Paul's account of kenōsis in Philippians 2:5–8 from a neurophenomenological horizon. We argue that kenōsis is not primarily a unique event but belongs to a class of experiences that could be called kenotic and are, at least in principle, to some degree accessible to all human beings. These experiences can be well analyzed, making use of both a phenomenological approach and the cognitive neuroscience of altered states of consciousness. We argue that kenotic experiences are ecstatic, in that (...)

    $$sQ_1$$ -degrees of computably enumerable sets.Roland Sh Omanadze - 2023 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 62 (3):401-417.
We show that the _sQ_-degree of a hypersimple set includes an infinite collection of \(sQ_1\) -degrees linearly ordered under \(\le _{sQ_1}\) with order type of the integers and each c.e. set in these _sQ_-degrees is a hypersimple set. Also, we prove that there exist two c.e. sets having no least upper bound on the \(sQ_1\) -reducibility ordering. We show that the c.e. \(sQ_1\) -degrees are not dense and if _a_ is a c.e. \(sQ_1\) -degree such that \(o_{sQ_1}, then there exist (...)

Much evidence cited by Cohen Kadosh & Walsh (CK&W) in support of their notation-specific representation hypothesis is based on tasks requiring automatic number processing. Several of these findings can be alternatively explained by differential expertise in mapping numerical symbols onto semantic magnitude representations. The importance of considering symbol-referent mapping expertise in theories on numerical representations is highlighted.

Biological warfare, corporate responsibility, human rights, computer ethics, and much more are discussed by over fifty scholars who explain the moral guidelines in the Bible and historic Christian teachings. The influence of mood on the intensity of emotional responses: Disentangling feeling and knowing.Roland Neumann, Beate Seibt & Fritz Strack - 2001 - Cognition and Emotion 15 (6):725-747.
The results of three experiments suggest that pre-existing mood increases the intensity of affectively congruent emotions while dampening the intensity of incongruent emotions independent of attributional knowledge. This result was obtained using a new method for inducing mood states unobtrusively and with minimal or no cognitive concomitants. The results of Experiment 1 revealed that for participants who were exposed to positive feedback a pre-existing positive mood led to stronger feelings of pride in comparison to negative mood. The results of Experiments (...)
