O artigo começa com uma conversa entre Frege e Wittgenstein. Frege fala primeiro, e apresenta o seu ponto de vista sobre os fundamentos da lógica. Daí, Wittgenstein responde em três momentos: (a) primeiro ele brinca e experimenta com as ideias de Frege para examinar o seu significado, (b) depois ele começa a apresentar as suas próprias ideias sobre a lógica, desafiando o ponto de vista de Frege, (c) e finalmente ele busca um acordo com Frege, deixando um quebra-cabeça para nós: (...) a ideia de uma técnica do pensamento. Daí, é a nossa vez de entrar na conversa, e a nossa participação se desenrola em dois momentos: (a) primeiro nós introduzimos ideias de Turing para articular a noção de um mecanismo de duas alavancas, (b) e depois nós esboçamos um entendimento da técnica do pensamento em termos desse mecanismo. A partir da leitura de Hannah Arendt sobre a relação entre lei, poder e Constituição em Sobre a Revolução, este artigo pretende apontar uma afinidade entre a noção arendtiana de direito e a matriz contemporânea do republicanismo. Para tanto, retoma a empreitada da Revolução Americana na transformação do conceito de Constituição e em seguida o malogro das Constituições francesas pós-revolução. Como pano de fundo, se identifica a preocupação de Arendt com a instauração de um corpo de leis capazes de assegurar (...) a permanência de um espaço público livre e plural, ressoando uma característica do republicanismo contemporâneo. O presente texto objetiva explorar a possibilidade de correspondência entre os elementos extraídos por Arendt na leitura de Homero e da fonte trágica grega, e àqueles percebidos pela autora nos sistemas de conselhos. Para tanto, este ensaio fará um primeiro movimento de compreensão da interpretação que Hannah Arendt faz da figura do herói homérico e suas implicações para seu conceito de ação não soberana e em seguida uma exposição de sua leitura sobre os sistemas de conselho destacando a importância que (...) a autora da ao surgimento espontâneo dessas experiências. Com isso não se pretende reforçar as críticas feitas de quer Hannah Arendt é um pensadora nostálgica, mas explorar o tema das fontes do seu pensamento destacando a singularidade do mesmo que consiste em pensar o impensado pela tradição. In this text, we intend to develop the elements that make up the criticism that Hannah Arendt presents at the end of the interview granted to the German writer Adelbert Reif in the summer of 1970 to the concept of state and modern government, and that are not developed by Arendt at that moment. To this end, we will initially expose Arendt's criticism of the emptying of public space and the attempt to reduce political participation to the electoral process. To (...) counteract these problems inherent to the modern concept of state and government, Hannah Arendt mentions, even slightly, the possibility of a council-state. However, in this text Arendt does not explore these concepts and experiences, but only relates them to the need for transformation of the modern concept of state and government, i.e., it allows the perception of the actuality of her previous reflection. In view of this, the hypothesis explored in this text is that this 1970 interview serves as a reading key to understand the relevance and actuality of the parallel between parties x council developed by the author in On Revolution in 1963 and adds a new element, namely, the theme of the need to institutionalize a forgotten experience: the councils. Este trabalho possui como mote apresentar a importância dos conceitos de perdão e promessa para a teoria da ação em Hannah Arendt. Possui como base as obra de Hannah Arendt, principalmente A condição humana. Num primeiro momento apresentaremos brevemente os conceitos de ação, pluralidade e natalidade e sua relação com a irreversibilidade e imprevisibilidade no interior do pensamento de Arendt, e em um segundo momento se fará a exposição do importante diagnóstico que a pensadora realiza sobre a situação da tradição (...) face aos eventos políticos do século XX, a fim de compreendermos a necessidade de uma ressignificação da teoria da ação política no ocidente. Por fim, a partir da compreensão dos perigos dessa ruptura com a tradição, evidenciaremos a importância dos conceitos de perdão e promessa como meios de remediar a contigencialidade da ação diante da ausência de uma tradição que assegurasse a possibilidade da existência do espaço do agir político. Deste modo, a hipótese conclusiva desta pesquisa é que diante da ausência de fatores que assegurem e motivem os mortais a adentrarem no campo da política e através da ação e do discurso povoarem o espaço público, é necessário ressignificar a teoria da ação política, e tal ressignificação ocorre no pensamento arendtiano através dos conceitos de perdão e promessa. Chronic migraine is a difficult disease to diagnose, and its pathophysiology remains undefined. Its symptoms affect the quality of life and daily living tasks of the affected person, leading to momentary disability. This is a pilot, randomized, controlled, double-blind clinical trial study with female patients between 18 and 65 years old with chronic migraine. The patients underwent twelve mindfulness sessions paired with anodal transcranial direct-current stimulation over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, with current intensity of 2 mA applied for 20 (...) min, three times a week for 4 weeks. In addition, 20 min of mindfulness home practices were performed by guided meditation audio files. A total of 30 participants were evaluated after the treatment, and these were subdivided into two groups—active tDCS and sham tDCS, both set to mindfulness practice. The FFMQ-BR, MIDAS, and HIT-6 questionnaires were used to evaluate the outcomes. After the treatment, the active mindfulness and tDCS group showed better results in all outcomes. The sham group also showed improvements, but with smaller effect sizes compared to the active group. The only significant difference in the intergroup analysis was the outcome evaluated by HIT-6 in the post treatment result. Our results provide the first therapeutic evidence of mindfulness practices associated with left DLPFC anodal tDCS with a consequent increase in the level of full attention and analgesic benefits in the clinical symptoms of patients with chronic migraine. El artículo ofrece una interpretación de la controversial y aparentemente inaceptable caracterización de la poesía desarrollada por Platón en la República. Los objetivos principales de la discusión son: aclarar las motivaciones de dicha caracterización, desentrañar los múltiples y discontinuos argumentos que la componen, y evaluar críticamente sus aciertos y sus límites. Se concluye que no todas las posturas que adopta Platón frente a la poesía son insostenibles, y que cuando sí lo son las razones para ello resultan particularmente esclarecedoras. The (...) article offers an interpretation of the controversial and apparently unacceptable characterization of poetry developed in Plato's Republic. The main objectives of the discussion are: to clarify the motivations for such characterization, to disentangle the various and discontinuous arguments that compose it, and to critically evaluate its limitations and the extent of its defensibility. It is concluded that not all the positions adopted by Plato with respect to poetry are unsustainable, and that when they are, this is due to reasons which result particularly revealing. (shrink)

Hybrid languages are expansions of propositional modal languages which can refer to worlds. The use of strong hybrid languages dates back to at least [Pri67], but recent work has focussed on a more constrained system called $\mathscr{H}$. We show in detail that $\mathscr{H}$ is modally natural. We begin by studying its expressivity, and provide model theoretic characterizations and a syntactic characterization. The key result to emerge is that $\mathscr{H}$ corresponds to the fragment of first-order logic which is invariant for generated (...) submodels. We then show that $\mathscr{H}$ enjoys interpolation, provide counterexamples for its finite variable fragments, and show that weak interpolation holds for the sublanguage $\mathscr{H}$. Finally, we provide complexity results for $\mathscr{H}$ and other fragments and variants, and sharpen known undecidability results for $\mathscr{H}$. (shrink)

Many pagan, Jewish, Christian and Muslim philosophers from Antiquity to the Enlightenment made no meaningful distinction between philosophy and religion. Instead they advocated a philosophical religion, arguing that God is Reason and that the historical forms of a religious tradition serve as philosophy's handmaid to promote the life of reason among non-philosophers. Carlos Fraenkel provides the first account of this concept and traces its history back to Plato. He shows how Jews and Christians appropriated it in Antiquity, follows it (...) through the Middle Ages in both Islamic and Jewish forms and argues that it underlies Spinoza's interpretation of Christianity. The connection between quantum physics and the mind has been debated for almost a hundred years. There are several proposals as to how quantum effects might be relevant to understanding consciousness, including von Neumann’s Consciousness Causes Collapse interpretation (CCC), Penrose’s Orchestrated objective reduction (Orch OR), Atmanspacher quantum emergence theory, or Vitiello’s field theory. In this paper, we examine the CCC, in particular Stapp’s theory of interaction of mind and matter, and discuss how this imposes constraints to possible brain structures. In this paper, I propose that time representation should be classified as agent dependent motor-intentional, agent dependent conceptual and agent independent conceptual. I employ this classification to explain certain features of psychological and cultural time and discuss how biological time constrains such features. The paper argues that motor-intentional time is a crucial psychophysical link that bridges the gap between purely biochemical cycles and conceptual-intentional representations of time, and proposes that the best way to understand the transitions from biological to psychological (...) time is to characterize them as phase transitions that emerge on the global properties of a system regardless of specific aspects of the underlying processing units. With respect to hierarchical models of time, the paper claims that although the hierarchical organization of constraints limits the number of possible instantiations of temporal information, informational phases have principles of organization of their own. Based on these proposals, I conclude that since information assembles itself into the temporal behavior of an agent, it is more accurate to call the principles governing such a behavioral unity a phase, rather than a hierarchy. To support these theses, the paper draws upon research in biology, neuroscience, philosophy and psychology. (shrink)

La tesis de este trabajo es que, respecto de los actos emocionales, en Zubiri se puede hablar de un "sentimiento primordial de realidad". Esta idea nunca se ha afirmado como tal puesto que algunos textos oscuros del autor parecían impedirlo. Reinterpretando no obstante esos textos se ha podido llegar a sostener que la "determinación" intelectiva de la que habla Zubiri no entra "formalmente" en contradicción con la existencia de un acto inmediato y radical de carácter emocional. Se trata de un (...) acto específico, en una unidad con el acto intelectivo y volitivo, en el que se actualiza la realidad como bella, como "belleza real". (shrink)

Se interpreta el relato del Génesis 11 como un factum de la condición humana, cuya historicidad nos es legada por la tradición judeocristiana. El relato bíblico supone para el temprano pensamiento occidental un reconocimiento de que la lengua (su pluralidad) juega un papel fundamental en la configuración del lazo social. Según Gadamer, el problema con el relato del Génesis 11 consiste en que induce a una visión inapropiada del lenguaje desde el punto de vista ontológico. La aproximación que se intenta (...) –siguiendo a Heidegger- destaca que la configuración ontológica del hombre lo muestra como un ser inmediatamente social y comprensivo. The hermeneutic circle and confusio linguarum, or how comprehension is possible The tale of Genesis 11 is usually interpreted as a factum of human condition, whose historicity is bequeathed to us by the Judeo-Christian tradition. For early Western thought, the biblical tale means the recognition of (the plurality of) language's key role in shaping social bonds. According to Gadamer, the problem with the story of Genesis 11 is that it induces an inappropriate view of language from an ontological point of view. All the acts of behaviour are judgements of reality (held by subject on the object). The first stage in th:is judgesment is denotative (judgement of facts). The second is connotative (judgement of value). Denotative judgement contains 6 components: diacriticity, organization, identification, naming, specialization, timing. All of them have to be provided with values of truth. Value of truth of denotative judgements derives from their value of truth in context. Context is a consensus space. Thus, subject denotes object starting from theory (...) of context he holds. As far as psycho(patho)logy is corcerned, starting from a theory of perception -instead of a theory of denotation- has been a decisive setback. (shrink)
