    Eighty years of foundational studies.Hao Wang - 1958 - Dialectica 12 (3‐4):466-497.
A survey is made of work since 1879 on foundational problems viewed as an analysis, by reduction and formalization, of the concepts proof, feasible, number, set, and constructivity. It is suggested that there are five domains of concepts and methods, viz., anthropologism, finitism, intuitionism, predicativism, and platonism. It is also suggested that the central problem is to characterize these domains by formalization and to determine their interrelations by different forms of reduction. Finally, the range of logic in the narrower sense (...)

Opening the Black Box of CSR Decision Making: A Policy-Capturing Study of Charitable Donation Decisions in China.Shuo Wang, Yuhui Gao, Gerard P. Hodgkinson, Denise M. Rousseau & Patrick C. Flood - 2015 - Journal of Business Ethics 128 (3):665-683.
This policy-capturing study, conducted in China, investigated the cognitive basis of managerial decisions to make a corporate charitable donation, a global issue in the context of corporate social responsibility research and practice. Participants responded to a series of scenarios manipulating pressure from the five stakeholders most commonly addressed by CSR research. The independent variables examined included organizational factors and the participants’ personal values. Results indicate a large positive effect of shareholder and governmental pressure on the decision with lesser positive effects (...)

Pharmaceutical Companies vs. the State: Who Is Responsible for Post-Trial Provision of Drugs in Brazil?Daniel Wei L. Wang & Octavio Luiz Motta Ferraz - 2012 - Journal of Law, Medicine and Ethics 40 (2):188-196.
This paper discusses the post-trial access to drugs for patients who participated in clinical trials in Brazil. The ethical guidance for clinical trials in Brazil is arguably one of the clearest in the world in attributing to research sponsors the responsibility for providing post-trial drugs to patients who participated in their experiments. The Federal Constitution recognizes health as a fundamental right to be fulfilled by the State. Based on the Brazilian constitution and on the National Health Council resolutions, courts have (...)

Media Coverage and Firm Valuation: Evidence from China.Jiwei Wang & Kangtao Ye - 2015 - Journal of Business Ethics 127 (3):501-511.
Drawing on both a managerial discipline perspective and an information intermediary perspective, we explore how media coverage of a firm’s controlling shareholder influences firm valuation in corporate China. Using 366 listed family firms in China from 2003 to 2006, we find that firms in which controlling shareholders receive more neutral media reports enjoy higher valuation, whereas negative media reports on controlling shareholders impose adverse effects on firm valuation. Interestingly, favorable media coverage of the controlling shareholders does not enhance firm value. (...)

Primitive Auditory Segregation Based on Oscillatory Correlation.DeLiang Wang - 1996 - Cognitive Science 20 (3):409-456.
Auditory scene analysis is critical for complex auditory processing. We study auditory segregation from the neural network perspective, and develop a framework for primitive auditory scene analysis. The architecture is a laterally coupled two‐dimensional network of relaxation oscillators with a global inhibitor. One dimension represents time and another one represents frequency. We show that this architecture, plus systematic delay lines, can in real time group auditory features into a stream by phase synchrony and segregate different streams by desynchronization. The network (...)

Because my wife is doing research on women and has read a raft of theoretical books on feminism, we often discuss our respective stand-points with each other. As intellectuals, we will inevitably have standpoints quite close to some kind of feminism—my feeling is that if someone does not respect women's rights, that person cannot be called an intellectual—but there are an awful lot of different theories of feminism , and it is important to know which kind.

An Introduction to Micro-Epistemology.Tian-en Wang - 2008 - Proceedings of the Xxii World Congress of Philosophy 16:255-261.
This paper is an introduction to micro-epistemology, philosophical reflection of "quantum wealth" as well as an anthropological analysis of the nature of human cognition in the scale of quantum. It covers the problems of the observation in and the trueness of micro-cognition, the perception of quantum phenomena, the relations between micro-cognition and practice as well as between macro-subject and micro-object, the descriptological turn in micro-cognition, the description of micro-world and some special descriptological problems in micro-cognition, etc. Micro-cognition, just as quantum (...)

A New Analysis on Metaphysics and Ontology.William L. Wang - 2008 - Proceedings of the Xxii World Congress of Philosophy 15:243-252.
By means of comparison between Lao Tzu’s theory of Tao in ancient China and the concept of metaphysics originated from ancient Greece, the author redefined the concept of “form” and therefore, elaborated the meaning of metaphysics from its Chinese translation. According to the author’s re-interpretation of Tao Te Ching, Lao Tzu had resolved the ontological questions in a different way with that of ancient Greek philosophers, and he had answered the question of “One and Many”. In the past, people had (...)

Appreciating nature in view of practical aesthetics.Keping Wang - 2007 - Frontiers of Philosophy in China 2 (1):140-149.
Appreciating nature may at its best feature have three levels of experience according to practical aesthetics. The first level is more sensuous as it largely pleases the ear and eye, the second level is more psychological as it chiefly pleases the mind and mood, and the third level is more sublimate as it mainly pleases the will and spirit. In Chinese culture the affinity between man and nature can be traced back to the traditional conception of tian ren he yi (...)

Existence of classes and value specification of variables.Hao Wang - 1950 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 15 (2):103-112.
In mathematics, when we want to introduce classes which fulfill certain conditions, we usually prove beforehand that classes fulfilling such conditions do exist, and that such classes are uniquely determined by the conditions. The statements which state such unicity and existence of classes are in mathematical logic consequences of the principles of extensionality and class existence. In order to illustrate how these principles enable us to introduce classes into systems of mathematical logic, let us consider the manner in which Gödel (...)

Eine Vertiefte Interpretation Des Konfuzianistischen Begriffs “Ren” im Horizont Der Strukturphänomenologie.Jun Wang - 2010 - Cultura 7 (1):54-69.
In Heinrich Rombach’s structural thought the phenomenological tradition has been extended to an intercultural dimension. In Rombach’s opinion the idea of structure has been developed in the East much earlier and much further than in the West. In the following paper I will show from an Eastern perspective that the philosophy of Confucius in terms of “Ren” or “concrete humanity” has an affinity with the Structural Phenomenology, which strives toward the living situations as the original aim. The Structural phenomenology concepts (...)
