Grundriss der transzendentalen Logik.Kurt Walter Zeidler - 1992 - Cuxhaven: Junghans.

“Organismic” positions in early German-speaking ecology and its (almost) forgotten dissidents.Kurt Jax - 2020 - History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences 42 (4):1-31.
In early German ecology, the key concept used to refer to a synecological unit was Biozönose. Taken together with the concept of the Biotop, it was also understood as an integrated higher-order unit of life, sometimes called a “Holozön”. These units were often perceived as having properties similar to those of individual organisms, and they informed the mainstream of German ecology until at least the late 1960s. Here I ask how “organismic” these concepts really were and what conceptual problems they (...)

The Rational and the Moral Order.Kurt Baier - 1995 - La Salle, IL: Open Court.
'The Rational and the Moral Order' is a significant book providing a comprehensive theory of morality. The opening chapter is simply marvellous. Baier provides a cogent response to Hume's conundrums on practical reasoning: logical entailment, he argues, is not the correct model of the relation between reasons and that for which they are reasons. Indeed, the giving of reasons is, in part, a social enterprise, and there is no necessary connection between rationality and self-interest. Just as the giving of reasons (...)

Deweyan Democratic Agency and School Math: Beyond Constructivism and Critique.Kurt Stemhagen - 2016 - Educational Theory 66 (1-2):95-109.
In this article, Kurt Stemhagen reconstructs mathematics education in light of Dewey's democratic theory and his ideas about mathematics and mathematics education. The resulting democratic philosophy and pedagogy of mathematics education emphasizes agency and the connections between mathematics and students' social experiences. Stemhagen considers questions about the disconnect between constructivist reformers and critical mathematics educators, and he positions Dewey's ideas as a way to draw on the best of both to create an active and more democratic school math experience.

  22. Non‐epistemic perception as technology.Kurt Sylvan - 2020 - Philosophical Issues 30 (1):324-345.
Some epistemologists and philosophers of mind hold that the non-epistemic perceptual relation of which feature-seeing and object-seeing are special cases is the foundation of perceptual knowledge. This paper argues that such relations are best understood as having only a technological role in explaining perceptual knowledge. After introducing the opposing view in §1, §2 considers why its defenders deny that some cases in which one has perceptual knowledge without the relevant acquaintance relations are counterexamples, detailing their case for lurking inferential epistemology. (...)

Following a succint summary of the two disciplines, rhetoric and poetics, the article attempts to show that not only both of them are in good shape, but also that a fruitful marriage of these two "brides" is possible. In spite of the many controversies surrounding the usefulness and justification of one or the other and their applicability to philosophy and even after repeated declarations of their death, both the art of correct speaking and poetics, under the most diverse forms, have (...)

    The Marginal Utility of Inequality.Kurt M. Wilson & Brian F. Codding - 2020 - Human Nature 31 (4):361-386.
Despite decades of research, we still lack a clear explanation for the emergence and persistence of inequality. Here we propose and evaluate a marginal utility of inequality hypothesis that nominates circumscription and environmental heterogeneity as independent, necessary conditions for the emergence of intragroup material inequality. After coupling the Standard Cross-Cultural Sample with newly generated data from remote sensing, we test predictions derived from this hypothesis using a multivariate generalized additive model that accounts for spatial and historical dependence as well as (...)
