Cicero: A Study in the Origins of Republican Philosophy.Robert T. Radford (ed.) - 2002 - Rodopi.
This book presents Cicero's natural law theory, including valuable definitions of the state, the ideal state, the ideal ruler, and the laws for the ideal state. Explanations are offered of the Greek sources of Cicero's republican philosophy, his influence on the Principate of Augustus, and his role in the development of modern political philosophy. "As all the ages of the world have not produced a greater statesman and philosopher united than Cicero, his authority should have great weight".

Ethical Issues Associated With the Introduction of New Surgical Devices, or Just Because We Can, Doesn't Mean We Should.Sue Ross, Magali Robert, Marie-Andrée Harvey, Scott Farrell, Jane Schulz, David Wilkie, Danny Lovatsis, Annette Epp, Bill Easton, Barry McMillan, Joyce Schachter, Chander Gupta & Charles Weijer - unknown
Surgical devices are often marketed before there is good evidence of their safety and effectiveness. Our paper discusses the ethical issues associated with the early marketing and use of new surgical devices from the perspectives of the six groups most concerned. Health Canada, which is responsible for licensing new surgical devices, should amend their requirements to include rigorous clinical trials that provide data on effectiveness and safety for each new product before it is marketed. Industry should comply with all Health (...)

  17. It Ain’T Necessarily So: An Essay Review of Intelligent Design Creationism and Its Critics: Philosophical, Theological, and Scientific Perspectives*Robert T. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press , Xx + 805 Pp., $45.00. [REVIEW]George Nakhnikian - 2004 - Philosophy of Science 71 (4):593-604.
Nature exhibits a rich variety of adaptations. Cells contain complex biomolecular structures, such as proteins, that are exquisitely adapted to perform specific biological functions. Evolutionary biology explains how biomolecular structures evolve. Intelligent design creationists reject evolutionary explanations. They want to believe that all adaptations in nature are the handiwork of God. Their critics aver that “it ain't necessarily so.” The anthology under review is an excellent display of the issues between intelligent design creationists and their critics. I agree with the (...)

Death and Taxes: On the Justice of Conscientious War Tax Resistance Robert T. Pennock.Robert Pennock - manuscript
Resistance to paying war taxes that stems from a principled pacifism is not the same as tax-dodging and should be accommodated in the law by broadening the scope of Conscientious Objector (CO) status and by legislating a nonmilitary alternative fund so COs may redirect their tax money to peaceful uses. Using the religious example of the Society of Friends (Quakers) and various secular examples of pacifism I show that resisters’ conscientious opposition to paying for war is of a kind with (...)
