    How frameworks can help operationalize sustainable development indicators.Joanna Becker - 2007 - World Futures 63 (2):137 – 150.
After nearly three decades of discussion about sustainable development are we any nearer to achieving it? And do we even know what a sustainable world will look like for future generations? Early definitions of sustainable development were so broad as to allow a range of interpretations based largely on individual interests and anthropocentric needs. We are measuring the performance of countless indicators of sustainable development, but is this more an exercise in applying data than meaningful progress? This article explores the (...)

To what extent are the wishes of a signatory reflected in their advance directive: a qualitative analysis.Friedemann Nauck, Matthias Becker, Claudius King, Lukas Radbruch, Raymond Voltz & Birgit Jaspers - 2014 - BMC Medical Ethics 15 (1):52.
Advance directives (ADs) are assumed to reflect the patients’ preferences, even if these are not clearly expressed. Research into whether this assumption is correct has been lacking. This study explores to what extent ADs reflect the true wishes of the signatories.

  7. Weak Discernibility in Quantum Mechanics: Does It Save PII?Jonas Rafael Becker Arenhart - 2013 - Axiomathes 23 (3):461-484.
The Weak Principle of the Identity of Indiscernibles (weak PII), states that numerically distinct items must be discernible by a symmetrical and irreflexive relation. Recently, some authors have proposed that weak PII holds in non relativistic quantum mechanics, contradicting a long tradition claiming PII to be simply false in that theory. The question that arises then is: are relations allowed in the scope of PII? In this paper, we propose that quantum mechanics does not help us in deciding matters concerning (...)

Perceived Ethical Leadership Affects Customer Purchasing Intentions Beyond Ethical Marketing in Advertising Due to Moral Identity Self-Congruence Concerns.Niels Van Quaquebeke, Jan U. Becker, Niko Goretzki & Christian Barrot - 2019 - Journal of Business Ethics 156 (2):357-376.
Ethical leadership has so far mainly been featured in the organizational behavior domain and, as such, treated as an intra-organizational phenomenon. The present study seeks to highlight the relevance of ethical leadership for extra-organizational phenomena by combining the organizational behavior perspective on ethical leadership with a classical marketing approach. In particular, we demonstrate that customers may use perceived ethical leadership cues as additional reference points when forming purchasing intentions. In two experimental studies, we find that ethical leadership positively affects purchasing (...)

    Lęk przed rozwojem. Refleksje o książce Eugena Drewermanna „Duchowni”.Joanna Tokarska-Bakir - 1995 - Etyka 28:135-153.
Joanna Tokarska-Bakir puts into analysis the main ideas of Eugen Drewermann expressed in his book Kleriker: Psychogramm eines ideals. She sets forth the sense of “total institution” – the main category used by Drewermann to characterize the essence of catholic church. According to Drewermann, catholic priests have been involved in struggling for political power rather than satisfying deep religious needs.

A four-part working bibliography of neuroethics: part 3 – “second tradition neuroethics” – ethical issues in neuroscience.Amanda Martin, Kira Becker, Martina Darragh & James Giordano - 2016 - Philosophy, Ethics, and Humanities in Medicine 11:7.
BackgroundNeuroethics describes several interdisciplinary topics exploring the application and implications of engaging neuroscience in societal contexts. To explore this topic, we present Part 3 of a four-part bibliography of neuroethics’ literature focusing on the “ethics of neuroscience.”MethodsTo complete a systematic survey of the neuroethics literature, 19 databases and 4 individual open-access journals were employed. Searches were conducted using the indexing language of the U.S. National Library of Medicine. A Python code was used to eliminate duplications in the final bibliography.ResultsThis bibliography (...)

The christological ontology of reason.Ulrik Becker Nissen - 2007 - Neue Zeitschrift für Systematicsche Theologie Und Religionsphilosophie 48 (4):460-478.
Taking as a starting point the assertion of an ambiguity in the Lutheran tradition's assessment of reason, the essay argues that the Kantian unreserved confidence in reason is criticised in Bonhoeffer. Based upon a Christological understanding of reason, Bonhoeffer endorses a view of reason which is specifically Christian and yet maintains a universality. With a focus on Bonhoeffer's Ethik as the hermeneutical key to his theology, Bonhoeffer's notion is also discussed in light of contemporary Christian ethics. In this part it (...)

  19. Symbole i dynamika w opisie systemów biologicznych i zjawisk psychologicznych.Joanna Rączaszek-Leonardi - 2004 - Filozofia Nauki 3.
This article is an attempt to shortly outline the approaches to the mind-body problem that are currently discussed within psychology. In the introduction the attitude of a contemporary psychologist to the mind-body problem is assessed. It seems that due to the functional approach, that for the last 50 years prevailed (especially in cognitive psychology), the mind-body issue is not central to psychological thinking, and in the investigation of many problems researchers can abstract away from it. Next, three approaches to the (...)

Following Snyderman and Rothman, we surveyed expert opinions on the current state of intelligence research. This report examines expert opinions on causes of international differences in student assessment and psychometric IQ test results. Experts were surveyed about the importance of culture, genes, education, wealth, health, geography, climate, politics, modernization, sampling error, test knowledge, discrimination, test bias, and migration. The importance of these factors was evaluated for diverse countries, regions, and groups including Finland, East Asia, sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Europe, the Arabian-Muslim (...)

Classical Negation Strikes Back: Why Priest’s Attack on Classical Negation Can’t Succeed.Jonas R. Becker Arenhart & Ederson Safra Melo - 2017 - Logica Universalis 11 (4):465-487.
Dialetheism is the view that some true sentences have a true negation as well. Defending dialetheism, Graham Priest argues that the correct account of negation should allow for true contradictions and \) without entailing triviality. A negation doing precisely that is said to have ‘surplus content’. Now, to defend that the correct account of negation does have surplus content, Priest advances arguments to hold that classical Boolean negation does not even make sense without begging the question against the dialetheist. We (...)

Alternative Methods of Financing Humanitarian Crises. Crowdfunding.Joanna Prystrom & Katarzyna Wierzbicka - 2021 - Studies in Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric 66 (4):531-546.
There is a continuous increase in the number of humanitarian crises around the world. The number of armed conflicts and attacks on civilians is increasing at an alarming rate. Natural disasters compounded by climate change and population growth are also occurring more frequently and with increasing intensity. Given that over 60 million people have been forcibly displaced worldwide, prolonged forced displacement has become the biggest humanitarian, development, political and economic challenge. The needs are increasingly outweighing resources, and humanitarian aid and (...)

ArgumentThe administration of mountain expeditions from the ground created special managerial problems. The Harvard College Observatory's Boyden Expeditions of 1887–1890 sent men and materiel to three sites: Pike's Peak, Colorado; Mount Wilson, California; and Chosica, Peru. Their goal was to test sites in order to find a suitable site for a permanent Boyden station to conduct astrophysical work in service of Harvard's preexisting projects. The logistical difficulties of living on the mountainside combined with the organizational difficulties of administrating a station (...)

Physician responsibility towards palliative care patients in regard to the new customer orientation paradigm.

The main aim of the article is a justification and attempt to prove the rightness of the thesis that personal features and teaching, educational and pedagogical activity of Kazimierz Twardowski constitute the example of teaching attitude which may be set as a personal model for modern team of academic teachers. The attitude of Kazimierz Twardowski proves that the work of a teacher treated as a life mission is a kind of social service contributing to development of culture and science. For (...)

Die Metamorphosen und Anspielungen auf die Werke der deutschen Literatur im Roman von Stefan Chwin „Dolina Radości” [Freudental].Joanna Bednarska-Kociołek - 2014 - Acta Universitatis Lodziensis. Folia Germanica 10.
In his novel “Dolina Radości” [“Valley of Joy”] Stefan Chwin tackles the subject of metamorphoses. In this article I will talk about the issue of transformations in “Dolina radości”. The hero of the novel is a makeup-artist and that is why metamorphoses are at the center of the action. Noteworthy are also transformations connected with the most important political events and the most important places in Europe in the 20th century for example in the Polish city of Gdańsk which Chwin (...)

Ethics in Economic Thought: Selected Issues and Various Perspectives.Joanna Dzionek-Kozlow & Rafal Matera - 2015 - Cambridge University Press.
This book reformulates the central questions of ethics in economic thought. It reconsiders the purpose of economic activity, the ethical values of entrepreneurs, and the Aristotelian dilemma of differentiating between needs and desires to better understand the rise of consumerism. The book also examines cultural factors, the role of religion, and the significance of informal institutions, ultimately showing how less developed countries can increase opportunities for all of their citizens.
